    You should really try first with factory setup, because oil weight can really change A LOT between cars. Like in a E Revo 2 its about 30k and 20M in the center so with 8k in the center the front tires are going to explode lol. Anyway good video for begginners it's always useful

    I read in an rc article heaviest in the front, mid weight in the center and lightest in the rear. As in 500 rear diff, 1000 center diff and 1500 on front diff. This is for aggressive and still have control.

      My suggestion will give you more bite but can result in too much bite and getting sideways easy. Your selection will be easier to handle the power. Your decision completely depends on what your preference is and then adjust from there.

On gravel it just spins out even with mild throttle the rear acting like a locker with its 20K fluid causing it to spin out on her. The base set up you suggested is exactly what the Team Corally support said to use. Hopefully these changes will make it way easier to drive.. Keep up the great videos..

    A video about ball diff vs gear diff might be also interesting! There are many threads about what is the effective/dynamic difference about those, and nobody seems to agree on the why, but tends to agree that ball diff is better at low grip conditions than a gear diff (even with low viscosity silicone oil). Maybe it's the left-right power transfer that it might be inherently faster in a ball diff? or maybe the gear diff oil changes propierties the faster the gears rotate, compared to the ball friction? I don't know why.

    • @RCexplained
      @RCexplained  3 роки тому

      I think it would be a challenging video to make. I don't really see any advantage a ball diff has over a gear diff. Maybe it being lighter? There's a reason these are fading away and not really used in anything other then small RC's.

    • @marinearmeni
      @marinearmeni 3 роки тому

      @@RCexplained One small advantage is the lack of gear backlash. Since it's just plates pressing on balls there's no play like a gear diff can have. A bigger advantage in my opinion is that when a gear diff starts to unload is becomes easier for it to continue to unload. A ball diff unloads at more or less linear rate. Last advantage I can think of is that ball diffs won't fade or change during a race unless you set it too loose and it slips.

    Extremely well delivered video, your competence is awesome, I just purchased the New Arrma Kraton EXB with the Castle 1717 8S 1650KV setup, with a Futaba HPS-CB700 servo and I’ll use a 17th pinion. What Front/Center/Rear Diff oil weights would you start with as well as the shocks front and rear also. I’ll run it as an 8S so it may be a bit heavier than expected. BTW I’m not s huge basher or jumper I just like having the capabilities if I so chose.

    • @RCexplained
      @RCexplained  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Cleveland Coleman, I'm not sure what the stock weights used in the new Kraton are. Typically I prefer to have the front and center differential heavier than stock. What I would do in your case is run the Kraton with the stock fluids to see how it performs and adjust from there.
      As for the suspension setup, here too I prefer to have a higher weight oil in the struts with stiffer spring rates. My setups are usually heavier than stock requiring stiffer springs with heavier oil. For jumping, heavier weighted oil and spring rates will help absorb the large jumps otherwise it will be easy to bottom the Kraton out on these larger jumps.

    Believe that the offset in diff weights makes a more favorable and driver friendly car to control. The car is more forgiving with lack of skill from the driver. It’s almost like cheating. Yes, it’s all about making the fastest, best handling car to beat the next guy. But I think making front and rear a true 50/50 split like most true 4wd set ups creates a better driver. 50/50 is as raw and pure as it gets. Once the driver skill can keep up with that animalistic car, they’ll beat anybody any day. Anybody can drive a forgiving car setup and stay fast.

    Great video. However I think that the car will almost always get the most amount of traction with the centre diff locked, regardless of the surface it’s running on.

    • @RCexplained
      @RCexplained  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mo, I see what you are saying. The same can be said for all differentials on the car. At the same rate, having a locked center differential and sending 50% of the power towards the rear end on a loose surface can be highly undesirable. Reducing the power to the rear wheels will increase the traction at the rear end and decrease traction at the front end. However, too much power on the front end will not result in abrupt power oversteer and loss of control. It can be a big balancing act dependent on personal preference.

    • @surfside75
      @surfside75 3 роки тому

      @@RCexplained hello, if you would. How does the center diff transfer power to the front? If the diff is already unloading at the rear diff because its lost traction won't this just continue as it's open diff until the rear end finds traction?. If I lock the center diff, will this prevent unloading at the rear diff as power is distributed 50/50 with no bias giving best overall performance? -Mojave off-road only.

    I've never really gotten in to tuning my diffs and have always been the type to adjust to my RC rather than trying to adjust my RC to me. I've blown a few front tires and have realized that I need to put thicker differential fluid in the center.
    I have a few questions about differential fluid / grease. What is the difference between diff fluid / grease? I'm assuming that diff fluid actually goes inside of the diff, and grease goes in side of the diff box.
    Is diff fluid and diff oil the same thing and are two words that get used interchangeably?
    Also, you mentioned that 7k-8k is a good setup for starters on the center, but yet I've heard of people crazy numbers like 1,000,000 in the center. Why is there such a huge gap with those numbers? I can only assume that there is no universal rating system, where a number directly correlates to the thickness.
    Not every RC manufacture makes their own diff fluid, which means you could be running a Redcat RC with Team Associated, an Arrma with Losi fluid and so on. So with that being said, are differential fluids the same across all brands (similarly to car oil) in terms of the number to viscosity ratings? Or would 8k from one brand be thicker / thinner than another brand?

    • @Abyssdiver
      @Abyssdiver 2 роки тому

      This guy is referring to small 1/10 scale buggies on a race track. I use 50k front, 20k rear, 200k middle however my RC is 1/8 Kraton EXB and has a HUGE 6th scale esc/motor combo turning HUGE monster truck tires. With the thicker middle fluid it allows me to wheelie easy.
      The brand of silicone diff fluid is of no worry if it is labeled as 10k it is 10k just like auto oil rating.
      Cheers~

    Great video thank you! You recommend around 5,000 weight front, 7,000 weight mid and 3,000 weight rear as a base. I’m trying to buy some oil but it’s only in CST, can you convert this for me? I see some people saying 5,000 weight is 50,000 CST etc is that correct? So I’ll need a 50,000 CST front, 70,000 CST mid and 30,000 CST rear to match your weight recommendation?
    Thanks in advance 👍🏻

    • @RCexplained

      There's no perfect conversion. Stick with a multiplier of about 10. It varies significantly from brand to brand. EDIT: I have updated description to reflect cSt recommendations. I may have said "weight" but meant cSt.

    Hi I need some advice. I rebuilt the center diff in my Losi Tenaciy MT and used Lucas Xtreme Heavy Duty grease (green) to fill it and now almost all of the power is going to the front wheels.
    What is the issue? Is it too thick or too thin? What should I use instead?

    • @RCexplained
      @RCexplained  4 роки тому

      Hi RocknRidin, Heavy Duty Grease is still way too thin. Use a minimum of 15-20 K weight fluid in the center differential. If you are looking for even more power sent to the rear end, experiment with 30K or higher.
