That was a charade of a match from Ruud - he basically gifted the match to Nadal. Nadal for example hit a career-record best stat of 93% on first serve points won lol (and he has had a long career). Ruud's own average first serve speed was almost 20 kph reduced from his last two matches. He loses a break at exactly 6-5 in both sets.... Best news of the week for Rafa is that his abdominal tear seems to have healed, because he’s back serving at full speed. He actually hit 16 aces, which is more than I can remember him serving in a long time. And the fire is back in his eyes! If he’s healthy, he’ll be a contender at the Australian Open no doubt.

Sairam. Agreed. I’ve never seen such hate from people like Jacob. Rafa is number 2 in the world, won two slams and would have been 1 if they counted the points from his Wimbledon semi which he didn’t even get to play. It was on paper an outstanding year minus the injuries. Yet people like Jacob have nothing but toxic energy to spread. He clearly hates Nadal yet he like most other haters still watch his videos only to bash him. I’d like to think a normal human being who loves tennis can enjoy a video highlight and say well played or even nothing. In life, these haters must be some of the saddest, emptiest people out there.

To suddenly play on lightning quick courts against the best, he said it best himself, it was not looking good, but he’s try his best. He was 100% accurate. He needs a year without an injury to mess him up. The positive is he should be fresh because he really didn’t get to play much and he mostly peeked at the slams.

Also, perhaps Ruud wasn't going100% as he did not need a win ( I'm not saying that was the case, just a subconscious thing maybe, maybe not) but still great to see nonetheless. That’s the best Rafa has played in over 4 months. He looked decisive and his serve seems to be coming back.
Still, his record since Wimbledon is a paltry 4 wins and 5 losses! A very topsy-turvy year for Rafa being out of action for many weeks at a time on 3 separate occasions due to cracked ribs, foot and abdominal muscle tear. He still managed 4 titles including 2 Slams! The worst he can finish the year is No. 3 which means 18 CONSECUTIVE years finishing in the Top 10!
Rafa still has ways to go in the next 6 weeks to be at full strength for AO and possibly an ATP 250 tournament beforehand in Australia.
The exhibition matches against Ruud will help Rafa from November 23rd to December 1st but he needs more tune-up matches in December.

Ruud did not give everything he had for this game. Two points confirm this: a) he idolizes Nadal and is part of his school; b) he is already in the semifinals, he does not want to get burned playing to his full potential. The mix between both: he doesn't have to play to his full potential against his idol, therefore, unconsciously or consciously, he lowers the tension to win. This match is not a sign that indicates anything about Rafa Nadal's upcoming season. Sorry.

Ruud's own average first serve speed was almost 20 kph reduced from his last two matches. He loses a break at exactly 6-5 in both sets.... Now with that said Ruud to me looked a half step slow, he just didn't seem to be playing as well as he has been. Not sure if it's unintentional and due to him winning his group, or if he intended to take it easy this match and save it for the next one. Two weaknesses in rafa's game.
    1. His return. He misses very easy returns into the net ... OFTEN
    2. Lack of depth on his shots. Not all the time but ive noticed in the matches he loses he's not hitting deep. The issue i have with rafa is he's always looking to put heavy topspin on the ball. Most of the time he ends up hitting short like the shot here: 0:48 . This creates a perfect sweet hitting spot for the opponents and they take advantage like rudd does on 0:50. I wish rafa would start to hit the ball flatter. Theres no point hitting crazy topsin on fast surface... it actually benefits the oponent when they find that the ball is bouncing a bit higher on a low-bouncing court. It also benefits taller oppponents like Taylor Fritz. Hitting crazy top spin with power also wastes a lot of energy. At this age if rafa changed his game it would suit him. He already hits flat in practice so i dunno why he continues to go for short topsin balls.
