  • Today I have review/comparison about the 2 pairs of 100% wool pants I own.
    I forgot to mention and important point about the Big Bill pants. Because i keep them over my boots, when i wear them around outside in the snow they get crusted in snow on the bottoms than i will bring them in and hang them for the next time i go out in a couple hours and they are never wet. The snow just melts and beads right off the pants, it does not absorb.
    Here are my measurements incase you want to compare sizing.
    Height- 5'9
    Weight- 150 lbs
    Waist- 30 inches
    Hips- 33 1/2 inches
    Chest- 38 inches
    Shoulders- 17 1/2 inches
    Arm Length- 32 inches
    Neck- 15 1/2 inches

    Johnson Woolen Mills is some of the best you can get. Multiple family members of mine have passed down their wool coats and pants and they still look new. You pay a premium, but it’s extremely high quality

    Just received my Big Bill 21oz green wool pants through Tractor Supply. 100% Merino! The two fabrics in the pockets are sewed, or connected perfectly with no overhang. They are perfectly flush. The buttons that you attach suspenders to are on the inside so they don't interfere with running a belt throuh the belt loops. Admittedly, on the button loop area only one of the 3 seams is sewed; the other two left open. But--$70 including shipping! Also they seem nice and heavy for a 21oz pair of wool pants.

    Hey, good review. I wore Big Bills hunting for the first time this year, and they rocked. Warm and rugged. Made in Canada. Dig it!!

    The big bill definitely much rougher in terms of finishing, but at a fraction of the cost (compared to johnson, filson) , they represent some of the best value on the market for wool hunting pants

    Great reviews I am a huge fan of wool it is all I wear in the winter I have Johnson woolen Mills as well as Bemidji woolen Mills clothing and a nice Filson Mackinac cruiser which all are great pieces of clothing. I also have a pair of Bemidji woolen Mills wool pants which are very heavy weight and the warmest I've ever had again great reviews

    Great comparison. I picked up some vintage Carter hunting pants. I love them but my buddies give me hell about my pajama pants. The vintage ones are a bigger cut but they really are the best snow pants I've had.

    The very back belt loop is not supposed to lineup that’s too many seams on top of each other which creates a bulge, which in turn rides on on your back and is not comfortable.

    i have been wearing wool outdoors for 50 years. My favorite pants are Filson Whipcords. They are very tightly woven and almost impervious to wind. They are not as heavy as their mackinaw bibs/ pants, either. They are not currently available, but Filson does bring a mill run out, every now and then. Johnson Mills makes a similar pant, but I have not tried them.

    I like Johnson woolen mills stuff, I've had a johnson, wool coat for 30 years. Really, now just showing its age. I've had to repair some seams. I have yet to try BIg Bill stuff. It might be great. Just something to think about- the Johnson stuff will last decades, so you can divide the cost by decades and it actually turns out to be a good deal.

    Thanks for sharing the specs for your sizing. I'm looking at getting a pair of the Big Bill pants. What size are you wearing in this video? Much appreciated.

    These both look awesome! Do you go in for military surplus wool field pants? They go for 15-30 bucks instead...

    Which of these pants do you find yourself wearing more often and why? Also, do you usually wear a layer under your wool pants?
    Just found your channel, it's a great resource! Thanks!

      Glad my videos can help you out! I find my self wearing the big bill pants more often for outside work around the farm as they are less expensive to replace. But the Johnson’s are by far more comfortable. They both get the job done just fine though. I don’t normally have an extra layer underneath unless it is quite cold outside, than I will put on a pair of wool long johns. Hope this helps out!

    that belt loop thing on the Big Bill just ensured I'm never a customer. Wow.
    Way to not even care about QC.

    Both looks nice, but the cuffs on the first pair I would find limiting as I would only wear them tucked. I have Big Bill pants and since they are Canadian made, Americans can take advantage of the lower CAN$. I have military wool pants with cotton pockets, etc. I do wish that modern companies would stick with faster drying nylon for the pockets and inner waist band. You are a bit off on the quality, the extra material is to account for shrinking so the stitching doesn't pull through.

      Could you please provide supporting information or sources for the statement about the seams. I don’t believe that to be correct at all but if I’m wrong I would do an update video on the matter thanks

    • @wildforwool3821
      @wildforwool3821  3 роки тому

      Also if that was the case why don’t all the seams look like that? It’s only finished that way where you don’t see it. And I’ve never had any other wool garments with seams like that and have never had a problem with seams when shrunk and I have a lot of wool clothing. But again please provide me with some articles on this issue thanks

    Do you recommend going up a size? I normally wear 34. Debating between 34 and 36.

    • @wildforwool3821
      @wildforwool3821  2 роки тому

      I did, not sure if it was necessary though. It is nice for layering and with a belt they don’t fall down but I probably could have went with my regular size

    Do you dry clean these pants or hand wash?

    • @wildforwool3821
      @wildforwool3821  Рік тому

      The manufacturers call for dry cleaning. I don’t like the chemicals used in that process tho so I don’t do that. Hand washing works well but I haven’t done it very much. I don’t recommend you do this but I personally wash them in the washing machine on delicate with cold water, or on wool wash if your washer has that cycle. But it does make the wool a little fluffier on the outside and will probably wear out faster over time. Just my opinion
