@@redred222 but can the SWITCH play SPACEMARINE 2 or any modern game while not looking like garbage? the SWITCH doesn't exactly compete against the current consoles
There’s a number of impressive ports on Switch including The Witcher 3 and DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. Not to mention the modern games that are exclusive to Switch like Metroid Prime and Tears of the Kingdom. Most new games receive Switch versions because it’s the biggest console platform, plain and simple. The handheld nature often means it gets complete in cart releases and it has revisions labeled on carts. There’s a lot of reasons to like it. PS5 versions seems to actually run worse on PS5 than PS4 versions ( or at least that’s what my little research seems to suggest). Really the Switch is more so in league with PS4 than PS5, but it seems like PS5 won’t catch it in terms of console sales, which also means software sales. The biggest platform tends to be the best place for consumers too. The Switch’s successor is just on the horizon and if it comes anywhere close to even base PS5 performance it’ll be a major embarrassment for Sony. Even having Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth ported over would really narrow the already narrow exclusive window PS5 has. If you own a good working PS4 there’s really little reason to upgrade.
Gonna be honest, Sony should be focusing on their software rather than their hardware. Games not only have been few, but very poorly optimized and maintained. How many PS4 games are still stuck at 30 FPS on the PS5, when we know damn well they can run at 120+ FPS?? That's what Sony should be focusing on, reaching out and maintaining games, instead of making useless hardware upgrades to play the same games at the same frame rate (because of hard-coded caps)
To be a _tiny bit_ fair to Sony, the 30 FPS cap is _almost always_ because a game uses a physics engine that runs at 30 FPS, and has coupled the rendering engine to it for some stupid reason. Usually, that stupid reason is it's a console game and they never expected it to run much faster than 30 FPS... Only the most recent generations of consoles have treated > 30 FPS _seriously,_ although > 30 FPS has basically always been a goal of PC gaming. This is just Sony showing just how behind the times they truly are.
A official Linux Desktop for the PS5 PRO would FIX it INSTANTLY. Having access to a desktop and all other PC Game stores on a PS5 with Official Dual boot would skyrocket the PS5 PRO sales (and people trying to hack the regular PS5 to install Linux onto it.)
@@ashkebora7262 Old engines are usually tied to FPS, yes, but that only means fixing the issue takes more than one value change, maybe it could take three! It's sad that the gaming industry has reached a point right now that is only focused on Graphics whilst having little to no content to back it up. The PS2 was truly the golden age of gaming: Lot's of content, good but not exaggerated graphics for the time. Developers made games for it's content and made sure the releases were properly tested The only company I think is still keeping this alive is Nintendo. I've never seen so many exclusives for one console that was deemed inferior to the main ones and yet still like the investment in the "weaker" console is actually worth it in compassion

I regret selling my ps2 and 360, those consoles were great. Ps5 pro is simply not worth it if your already own a ps5, there differences are not that extreme to justify spending another £700. Same with ps4 pro, I think it's better waiting for the next generation (ps6 or Xbox equivalent) if you want an upgrade.
My $1200 PC doesn't have a disc drive either, I don't see what the problem is I mean I'm not about to spend $700 on a gaming device and not have mod support, but realistically, physical media is not something worth consuming. It's more manufactured garbage and a further strain on our planet's resources, you need to wait days for it to arrive (or drive out to get it at a local store) rather than downloading it in under an hour while you do something else (AND this uses fossil fuels to transport it either way), you have to manually change out discs which is inconvenient, digital games tend to come with some sort of monetary incentive...all in all, the only reasons to use physical media are - you can sell them later - it's nostalgic if you grew up with physical media - it's fun to see a game in a store and impulse-buy it Doesn't seem worth it to me. I've seen people bring up "when the servers go down your digital game's gone forever" - no, your digital game's gone forever if the servers go down and your original system breaks. Your physical game's gone forever if the disc breaks. There isn't a functional difference. I'm not trying to say the PS5 Pro is worth $700, but this is a weird hill to die on.

If they were upgrading the CPU and it came with the disc drive and stand, it MIGHT be worth it. As it stands, I wouldn't even pay $500 for this. Every game that is suffering performance issues on the PS5 is because of CPU bottlenecks. In Sony's PS5 pro reveal video, they showed that 75% of players choose performance mode over fidelity mode yet they chose to upgrade the GPU. The levels of stupidity and greed coming from Sony are equally impressive.

Based on the promised estimates, several sources are pointing to the gpu performance mimicking the RX 6800 (which you can get for $360, no prior data-mining use and 16.2 TFLOPS performance at single precision) but with the faster RDNA3 architecture. No significant changes have been theorized for the CPU. Literally, the only major benefit between the two gpus is the PS5 Pro gpu having faster Ray Tracing performance. Seriously, ray tracing already looks great for rendering reflections in Spiderman 2 running on base PS5. You can easily make a nice PC tower for the price this is worth while playing most of your choice of games released on any gaming console and without the need of buying an entire new Playstation 6. We're reaching a point in gaming where taking advantage of graphics takes larger teams more time to produce. We're halfway through the ps5 life cycle with a far smaller library than we've had in previous iterations. It's why we've seen the rise of indie. Cheaper to make, more focus on gameplay, and less graphic reality obsession. Like, who is the ps5 pro for? The ps5 works great as far as im aware. If you want insane compute, use i dunno, a computer? What scares me the most is that when the PS4 Pro came out (which was a pretty solid deal with what it added), it opened the gates for terrible optimization of the base model. The Last Guardian released right around the time the Pro did, and was optimized abysmally for the PS4 standard (this is a Sony exclusive btw). No new games to launch with, no disc drive, no vertical stand, same old stick drift prone DualSense controllers. Sony are paying tribute to the PS3 launch price, but they've gone further because at least both of those had a disc drive as standard. No price drop on the standard model even after a price increase it never came down from (two increases in Japan, including one recently, the home country of the company). And what are we getting, according to Cerny? Slightly higher resolution, slightly better light and shadows. It's actually hard to see any of it unless you pause and stand still, and most games aren't about pausing and standing still.
You're paying tax on all 3 parts of the PS5 Pro. The console - $700, the disc drive - $80 & the stand - $35. Also fun paying for PS+ too lmfao. So, if you want the entire PS5 Pro, it'll be closer to $900 - $950 USD. Even more expensive than that outside of the USA. For just a marginal improvement over the base PS5. Sony has to smoking the good kush if they thought this would be well received. You'd be insane to not buy an actual Desktop PC at this point.

Emulating the PS3’s massively cell processor won’t be easy. Even powerful PCs struggle to emulate Cell and its 8 SPEs. However, I still say the PS5 Pro is a huge waste of money and I’ll gladly stick my original PS5 bought few years back.
I think it's worse that not only is it not included, but the fact they want $30 for a piece of f-in plastic!! You could 3D print one yourself for cheaper probably!

You can cut some of that money off because A. PSVR2 is worthless. And the pro ain’t even better than the normal one. That’s already 700 dollars less… hey that’s actually kinda funny.

thats a stupid argument. why do u include a "dualsense edge", psvr, ps portal on that price tag to compare with a PC? at that point, buy a PC with a pro mouse, premium headset, a tablet that can sync with PC Build me a PC under $1K that can play AAA games at 4K60 I will wait.
Sony has gotten so god damn cocky. they used to take a loss or break even on the sale of a console. With how bad Microsoft has fallen they’re the only game in town now so they feel like they can do whatever and who’s gonna do anything about it? So now they’re trying to make profit on everything they sell. Consoles, games, even the god damn stand. They could have designed a system that didn’t need a stand. They could have kept the original stand made out of cheap plastic, they didn’t need to do a redesign of it. It’s all in a move to extract every dollar they can from us. Sony is showing people in real time why a monopoly in the gaming world is bad. Monopolies are bad period. So we should all be rooting for Xbox to make a comeback (who knows if it will happen). It’s on us, the consumers, to humble Sony and let them know this isn’t acceptable. Speak with your dollars. this is all a test to see how far they can push the limit for when the next gen upgrade comes.
I cannot stress enough how much money a disk drive saves. Buying used games and selling when you're done is cheap as chips. The value lost by not bundling the disc drive is obsurd.
This is a very good point I'm not seeing being echoed. There's only one digital storefront on PlayStation and that's the PS Store, discless consoles should be seen as a grossly anti-competitive practice and an intentionally monopoly, both of which are grounds for a lawsuit.

But gaming laptops can play pretty much anything nowadays, and for surprisingly cheap. It's just the fact that playstation is pretty much competiting with the pc gaming market at this point, which is a plan that is doomed to fail. Console games have been building up to this point for awhile. Theyre pretty much selling you a glorified gaming roku tv reciever. And I love console gaming, honestly. It still has a place nowadays for retro gaming. Console gaming sort of peaked when they weren't glorified adware and shovelware sponges. When they had premium content, when avatar creation was actually fun and captivating. When menu screens weren't just desktop screens. Yeah. Maximizing consoles defeats the purpose of consoles. They can't compete with a computer, and I know it's not ambitious. It's clearly a market ploy. Everyone knows it. The majority of consoles relied on pumping out these classic titles year after year. Now, you see many of these titles on PC or if it is a console exclusive, it's a game that technically works better on PC, like with Nintendo Switch, and even PS5. Console gaming is a gimmick now. For 700$? It won't be perfect. You'll want to buy an external ssd or something. But at 700$, right now, you can buy a gaming laptop that I GUARANTEE outperforms the PS5 pro. At 1000$, and with the right company like MSI, you can buy a computer that rivals 3000$ PC rigs that can play pretty much anything. Because honestly, PCs have grown commercially viable. You can play Elden Ring on a 700$ computer and it'll look amazing. Consoles are losing their main advantage vs PCs and now people are realizing there are more games on PC. Games like Lethal Company and Helldivers, Pizza Tower. I lament how bad Sony has fallen off. The PS2 is one of the best consoles of all time. Sony used to get it. But now? I'm not so sure. They're getting desperate. I have to wonder, what can they even do at this point? Make a PC marketplace thing like EpicGames? I dunno. I don't hate consoles. I just don't get the point of owning one anymore, if they're just gonna cost the same as a computer. I have seen this moment coming, too. When the PS5 cost 500$, it was hilarious to me. Of course it costs that much. Next thing you know, GTA 6 is going to debut on the PS6 for 900$, and you'll get some sort of bonus pack that only players on PlayStation can use.
700 for a console is insanity. I get people are comparing them to gaming PCs but a PC can do 100 times more things than a console, it's not a worthwhile comparasion. You can easily build a PC for a similar price which would outperform any console if you're willing to buy second hand. RT a waste of time on consoles as well. I've just picked up a second hand pc for streaming and editing for 750 with a 3060ti and i5 13500k which leaves the standard Ps5 for dust, in terms of performance. Should outperform a Ps5 pro as well. Though it's never gonna be used for that as my main pc has a 4070 and will outperform any console released for a good few years. Edit: just thought that a lot of past gen games running on Ps5 don't have 60 fps patches. Guaranteed they gonna drop a bunch of 60 fps patches now on the pro only. (Even tho most would probably run at 60 on the base Ps5 lol). Glad I switched to PC because my Ps5 has been sat gathering dust for what feels like years now. Barely any good exclusives either now. I'd advise anyone thinking of buying this to hold off and save more for a decent gaming pc.
They removed the only reason I am still on consoles, the best feeling of popping a disk off the shelf and hearing the mechanical noises which follow, sadly, it seems as though I’ll just have to upgrade my pc for this next generation instead of purchasing a console
You clearly don't understand... Why would you buy a gaming computer for 700$ that can play millions of games, emulators, and softwares when you can buy a PS5-Pro for the same price, with a vast choice of about 720 games? (Only 50 of those games are really worth playing but 🤫)
@@Alfred-Neuman But you forgot! Not only do you get this amazing deal for $700, but you also get to pay monthly to play online, and all the games are more expensive!

@@redred222is it that badass?
Kuz im thinking about it
@@redred222 but can the SWITCH play SPACEMARINE 2 or any modern game while not looking like garbage?
the SWITCH doesn't exactly compete against the current consoles
After Concord, I am not so sure

- you can sell them later
- it's nostalgic if you grew up with physical media
- it's fun to see a game in a store and impulse-buy it
Doesn't seem worth it to me. I've seen people bring up "when the servers go down your digital game's gone forever" - no, your digital game's gone forever if the servers go down and your original system breaks. If they were upgrading the CPU and it came with the disc drive and stand, it MIGHT be worth it. As it stands, I wouldn't even pay $500 for this. Every game that is suffering performance issues on the PS5 is because of CPU bottlenecks. They're both MSI laptops marked at 1000$ that I bought amazon. My old computer is 2 years old. Still works great. These computers are designed to last. They play games amazingly. They're portable, affordable, way more games, and functionality beyond gaming.
I have no idea where some of these dudes get their price points. 3000$ for a PC rig? I mean...if you really need to play Flight Simulator or something. I have a friend with a 3000$ pc and he STILL struggles to play Red Dead Redemption 2. Some games you just can't save no matter how badass your PC is, especially Rockstar. They hate PCs.
Now this is MS chance to release a updated Series X with a built in disc drive being the selling point lmao
$700 and no disc drive is INSANE
Meanwhile Nintendo is STILL chilling with the Nintendo Switch lmao.

I'm suprised how clueless people are about GPU prices being so high because of bitcoin and AI. If you want that performance on PC you spend $700 for a mid range gpu alone.

1. 4k on a monitor makes no difference and only changes anything if you use a huge TV
2. A PC would save you money in the long run because you can upgrade individual components over time, the games are WAY cheaper, and you dont have to pay to have the “privilege” of playing online
3. Keyboards and mice last 100x as long as the cheap controllers theyre selling people now, saving you even more money. (Ive had the same keyboard and mouse for 8 years)
4. PC’s have millions of games compared to playstations hundreds
5. You can get games for FREE that cost you $40+ on a playstation
5. You can use a PC for things besides gaming, providing even more value.
6. Buying 1 GPU isnt the SAME as Sony buying THOUSANDS of them at a bulk discount. Do you walk into a store and think “Wow the store must’ve paid so much money for all these candy bars, they’re selling them for $1 each!”????
Did they not learn anything from the ps3?
No because its not within Sonys control to keep prices of GPUs low after covid, AI and bitcoin has increased GPU prices massively. You clearly have no idea about PC market, but for a mid range gpu its $700.
Feels like Sony is reverting back that era of PlayStation.
Doesn't matter, they have zero competition. Xbox? Lol, Xbox is going multi platform and Nintendo likes their consoles anemic. PC is the only way.
You guys do remember they have a cheaper option, right?
