having the screen alone puts it ahead of everything else out there
oh.. hi... you there.... Landon wasn't it? hi.... blue guitar...
very nice
It could be bigger. I suggested a screen to Fender for the Mustang Micro a long time ago but they just wrote back and said they have no plans for another version of said device. So do…the thing and find out, I guess.
Agreed having a display was genius.. Nice job way to go on the Katana Go😉
@@michaelolzPocket GT, baby!
All of this has become unimportant t. Where is the mannequin?
LOL, stay tuned.
Hahaha
Please don't get bogged down with perfection. Embrace the chaos and go for it.
I’ve been observing the market for the last year, and I’m glad I’ve waited. This beauty is it 🙏🏼
Same, for years I haven’t been convinced enough to buy one until now.
Lotta folks gonna be selling their Mustang Micro's.
This is the best review and demonstration I've seen of this product👍
I'm buying one right now. Thanks for the review.
And this is why i like your channel. It always looks like you're having a good time. I'm buying this sucker no doubt. As a new older player this would make me pick up the guitar more often than not. Thanks!
Hi Ryan! I recently started playing guitar again after a 14 year break. I blame you I stumbled upon one of your videos weeks ago and it truly made me dig out my guitar and amp to play. Thank you for the inspiration to play again and the effort you put into your videos. I would love a video about the licks and riffs you play when your testing things when you break out the what I think is the inspector gadget theme it never fails to make me smile. I can’t find a tab that sounds right compared to what you play. Thank you again and good luck finding your mannequin self!
An absolutely *great*, bottom-to-top review! Full featured review for another full featured Boss product! Many thanks!
I love the blue ... tooth pairing button!
yeah - this is the one
Have to say , you've created the most comprehensive Boss Go video that I have seen so far. Thanks for going the extra mile.
He’s very good at getting the message across. I’m giving one away on my channel if you’re interested Boss Katana Go + FREE GIVEAWAY. First Look REVIEW of the Ultimate Guitar amp?
ua-cam.com/video/tZR-sIR13fY/v-deo.html
The demos that I keep coming back to for products! Ordered the go for myself. Always enjoy a good surfy review and just having fun and working it out! Good stuff. Excited to practice and write with this thing! Dig the surf patches you have going as well.
My pre-ordered personal example shipped out today. I am super f'n excited. This will actually be my first Katana product. In fact, somehow or another, I have never even played through a Katana product. I have already loaded the app on my phone and have spent time exploring it. It shows tons of promise.... The tones I have heard in all the initial drop review videos have backed that up. Including this one. I know this is your business, but thanks for taking the time to do such an in depth over view and review.
@@videditorEB1what's makes you think the katana is mono ... 24:30
Thanks so much for the commentary and playing. This was a fun video.
What an amazing device... in such a small package. Hope it isn't crazy expensive.
This makes one wonder about what you even need these days (want may be a better word) - when such a compact device can do so much. Not long ago, you would've needed an entire room filled with gizmos (and a lot more time and buckets of money) to do all of this.
its $119 usd. I didn't know the price when i filmed this so i didnt mention it.
Ryan, I can tell you really worked at getting this demo ready. But as I watched, I was thinking, "Oh here is another one of those headphone amp jacks that are cool but never get you to where you feel like it does enough..."
And then you mentioned the Stage feel and I put my headphones on and Wow!, the effect of it coming through my headphones here at home was pretty damn special!
I'm an old timer who doesn't like messing with gadgets, but this one hits a couple of major marks for me, and yeah it looked and sounded like a lot of fun.
Another Great job.
I love the happy vibe from Ryan!
He’s a great UA-camr and lovely personality. So cheery
@@johnoakleymusic 100%
Neat gizmo does the neat gizmo thing!
I need one of these! Great video.
That introduction resonates with me very much since I became a dad… so I bought it instantly!! :)
What have your experiences been like so far? Do you come to play or do you mainly fiddle around with the effects? I'm worried that I'll lose myself in it instead of playing ... 😅
@@7riX7er as long as you use it solo (so not connected via app), it works great for actual practicing :) just make sure you spend some time beforehand creating your favorite settings
@@ErwinvanAsperen you're right ... just to accord fiddling around while playing.
Btw is this backing track feature bound to the dedicated app or can i use any player on my mobile and send the audio via bluetooth to the katana ... or at least when connected via usb used as an audio interface?
Well, I ordered one with your Sweetwater link! This looks like everything I've missed in my Mustang Micro.
Fender should answer with a feature update on Mustang Micro, cause it actually sounds good.. but..
Damned good review! Thank you. And such a great usable product!
Dude... This is a loong video ! I have not yet gotten to the end ... But your starting out with WHAT KATANA GO COMES LOADED WITH ... was a saving grace for me. All the stuff I have seen so far, show it paired with a stoopidphone ...Which to be honest I resisted buying until last December... When I bought a new car, with a cool "Infotainment System" that includes Apple Car Play and Android Auto for navigation and music stuff ...
So anything requiring use of the Stoopidphone devise (iPhone 13 in my case) is a daunting deal ... But can be fun when it works. Your vid here ,shows what the Katana Go can do independently ... And how much more it can do once connected to the damm phone and the Boss App
So ... I will add a couple of these to my existing Fender Mustang Micros and my Katana 100 II (which I have never used the Boss Tone Studio with ) as the sumbitch does more than I know how to use in a Basic mode !
Sounds incredible, if I pick one up I'll make sure to hit your link
The Katana sounds cool. I’ve got the Vox Boutique and I love it. These rig-in-your-pocket jacks are going to be very popular I think . It might be cool too to use speakers instead of headphones .
Many thanks only bass demo on web currently so very interesting for a four stringer such as myself
Ryan, glad to see you finally reconnected with your long lost twin!
I ordered one this morning!
I can imagine some bedroom producer recording an entire album with this thing
Awesome demo Ryan, thank you.
Seems like a decent product but I wonder how long the battery will keep recharging? I guess if you get 2-3 years out of it it’s worth it. I’ve spent way more on just one effects pedal so maybe I’ll give it a try at some point.
Thanks
I don't have a Katana in my pocket.
...but I am happy to see you.
Groooovy!
I just put a like after watching the first 3 seconds. Rockdad here!
Thanks for the video, I have the pocket gt and like the controls on it but the one less cable is tempting, I was thinking about the waza air as no cables... Maybe Ill just get a better pair of headphones for now and then consider this later. I was wondering if Boss are going to update the Waza air but this seems a really logical move for them and the price point is good. Thanks for mentioning the pocket GT in your video.
Perhaps Boss' next move is a Katana Mini with this built in to compete with Spark and other portable modelling amps
Thanks!
Awesome!
I have the Fender Mustang Micro but I'm buying this as well, these devices allow me to support both my audiophile headphone and guitar gear addictions. Peanut butter and chocolate in terms of disposable income. Love the demo, hopefully you get a bunch of kick backs on these. Great way to practice at home or traveling.
I still enjoy the extra controls on my Pocket GT. But after watching some other reviews of the Katana Go, I'm blown away by what Boss has packed into this little monster.
I ordered one!👍🤘
Hey. I just realized. You can plug the katana go into the anx jack on the katana 100 and use it that way. That's awesome 👍
RYAN
Hey could you pretty pleasseeee review the Walrus Audio Mako M1?? I love your videos on the D1, R1, and ACS1. I'd love to see a demo of that gorgeous looking pedal
Hi, using it as an audio interface, does it capture voice over also thru the mic of the TRRS headset? For example you use it for live streaming/online lesson? The NUX MPP does this.
41:45 We all just ascended to 80's credits roll
Thing sounds amazing. Im looking for reasons to not like it....BUT I WANT ONE 😅
Pretty amazing technical development of Boss, if you can hear the sound in stereo using headphones! I mean my Katana 50 mkII just cannot do it. It's phones out connection is as MONO as ****. 🤪
I crack up anytime I here someone pronounce it "pellow". Love you Ryan.
Notice how he can't stop smiling as he's playing with it. That was my first few says with the Katana Go. Look, there's nothing else on the market in this form factor that can deliver what this does. I own the Fender Mustang Micro and the Nux plug, they were great in their day. This thing just smokes both of them. You can hear it in this video and all the others, it's the BOSS effects. They created digital twins of their analog circuits long ago and most of them are in this little plug. It sounds good enough to lay down bass and guitar tracks with, if you don't have existing plug-ins. BOSS could have sold a bass version of this, instead they made this a 2-in-1, that's so commendable of them to add value to this one product .
I too am a dad just trying to jam into headphones 10 minutes at a time haha 😂. Ordered my Katana Go!
I like it. I am invested in the Positive Grid system, have a Spark 40 and a Spark GO. I can basically do this with the Spark GO, just with a cable running to my GO and then headphones. But it would be cool to have it in this small, plug form-factor and still be able to use all my Spark tones.
Do the sparks have spring reverb yet? last I owned a spark there was so spring setting.
No spring. Room Studio A and B, 3 Halls, 2 Plates, and Chamber@@60CycleHumcast
I saw the Go name and it sure looks like they are competing. It's 10 dollars cheaper too. Looks like Boss is taking a page from Line 6 and their Catalyst and copying them right back. Pod Go, Spark Go and Katana Go.
Yes, have You found Yourself Ryan? Could You do a demo on the EH Switch to show what can be done with it in multiple situations?
Also it’s app is almost just like the Nux Pro and if only these had a looper, which in fact always makes Me think of the P1 or used p2 or now S1. I also gave away the Fender version to My Son and We both thought it was also awesome but no app that I remember. Haven’t tried the Flamma
Only "downside" for me is the switching between guitar and bass mode. As a bass player who enjoys playing a guitar every now and then, I like the effortless switching between guitar and bass "mode" like with the Nux Mighty Plug (Pro). Anyway, I'll definitively check out the Boss Katana Go. At the moment I'm using a Nux Mighty Plug and the Boss looks like a nice upgrade.
I've bought the Pocket GT right after it's release and I really enjoy it.
From your experience so far...Ist the Katana Go worth to upgrade?
Feature wise it loos quite similar but if the sound is a real upgrade, I would consider hitting the buy button 😬
Intro: Damn, dude, you know how to party! 🖖🖖
Also… what guitar is that on your wall with the three humbuckers and the bigsby?
And I just bought the Flamma bass amplug
Is there a way to keep the screen active? I noticed it kept going into standby mode or something but I like to be able to glance down and see what I'm doing
Have you tried to import patches into the Katana Go that you created and exported from your Pocket GT or a GT-1? Boss' website says they are all compatible with the Tone Exchange, but I've heard the patches exported from a GT-1 or Pocket GT aren't compatible with the Katana Go and vice versa. I like this, but I like the versatility of sharing patches between the GT-1 and Pocket.
Not worth replacing my mighty plug pro, but seems to be a nice piece of kit
I wouldn't replace my Mighty Plug 2 for this😕
The "stage feel" is basically a really good natural sounding room reverb. imo
Please check out the Flamma FX20. It's fairly new but I think you will be very surprised. It has 52 amp models, 14 modulation effects, 5 reverb effects and 5 delay effects. It also has 40 drum machine grooves. A comparison would be amazing.
Can the headphone out be used as a line out say into the return of an existing amp?
Saludos desde la aldea...
Can you somehow run this into an amp or a speaker cab to play out loud? Electro-Harmonix 44 Magnum Power Amp or the Orange Terror Stamp maybe?
You just need a cable adapter. Though it might sound funny through and amp because it’s already running amp/cab sims
This is small. But isn’t the new Line6 toy more handy for experimenting in the evening? More direct knobs? Although this device seems to have much more options.
Yah, do I buy this Kat GO now or wait till the POD Express shows up at stores (late May 2024 where I am). I want what the Express has, fx/amps knobs and looper, more practical for desktop use. But POD still doesn't have an app yet, and rumours only there'll be one. Whereas GO has an app and bluetooth and it's a KAT! Maybe buy both?
Can you play Spotify or itunes through this amp? The thing i like about the iRig is it plugs into my ipad and i can play popular songs at the same time in my headphones. I would love one i could just connect to my iphone.
Hey man, I just recently got into surf rock and am trying to find out what your bands name is?
Can we get a live stream of you sitting on the couch playing along to New Wave songs whilst watching Star Wars with the subtitles on please?.. Thanks!
Any way of hands free switching patches on the fly?
how it works on top of a song/backing track?
Hi ! That’s fantastic ! Could you possibly do a clip on adding backing tracks from you tube etc.
I’m not tech savy enough to figure that out 🤣
You just connect it to your phone with Bluetooth
Sounds awesome for such a little guy that you can take and plug in anywhere... however did you hear that for some reason these have been DISCONTINUED?? Wondering if this is a similar issue that Fractal had with their FM9 with chip shortages... ??
Discontinued? what? already? i hope thats not true.
@@60CycleHumcast apparently. I ordered one while still available ... we will see if I get one.
I paid $1,700 for my Quad Cortex and this is $120. Amazing! I never use the "Capture" (profiling) feature, use only half the Inputs/Outputs, never needed the looper, I use the older firmware version (1.3.0 or something like that), but I do use "Scene Mode" that are Presets, but you can turn on/off/adjust parameters. I only need a few sounds to make something sound good; If I couldn't afford the Quad Cortex, I'd get this no problem.
Boss missed the proverbial boat in my case. If they'd brought this out six months ago, I'd have bought it! I've got a Katana Mk II 100w combo, so the compatibility would have been a major plus. Instead, I got a NUX - and that does everything I need for now (and it was also a lot cheaper).
I've had my Mighty Plug 2 for two years now after sending back a Fender Mustang Micro. It's a damn good little device. Just don't update the firmware.
Would you recommend this over the Boss Pocket GT?
Quite a few of the bass presets sound very similar to the presets on my old school Boss ME-8B, which is not in any way a knock.
For me the question is which is better, the Pocket Gt or this. I prefer the format of the Pocket Gt. What do you think?
Cheers from Portugal Portugal🤘🍺🇵🇹
Interesting that it isn't listed on Amazon at all at the moment. Ryan's link afiliate link to it is dead. I have Amazon credit and would prefer to grab it there. Amazon has tons of other Katana variants and even recommends a katana sword. But no "Go".
That's me!!
What do I think? My Mustang Micro is already on Facebook Marketplace.
How do i record this to android via usb c, do i need a special recording app or setting?
Is the riff after 42:10 from something? It sounded really fantastic
That just kinda fell out of me. It does sound familiar though.
How could you add a microphone to the Katana Go?
Are any of those Teiscos?
BOSS to Spark: “Hold my beer.”
Same, i have a spark 40 but if not this would be an option...
Alright, typically not my thing but this has so many features that all sound pretty freakin' great. I would actually get a ton of use out of this and not be paranoid that I'm annoying my neighbors. C'meer affiliate link!
This impressive Boss KATANA Go was just BEGGING for a Drum Machine/Metronome feature to be a total Home Run. Why the omission Boss?
You have the Bluetooth connection that is good enough
I believe "audio position" in the stage feel settings moves around where the sound is coming from for audio you're playing through your phone like a backing track. So if you want the band to sound like they're behind you like you're playing on stage etc. And since you didn't have anything like that playing at the time, you didn't really hear what it was doing.
Does this fit in a strat or would you need a short extension cable?
Yes it fits in a strat
Can the settings be modified on PC or do you have to use a phone. Please not another app. 😩
I don’t know about the pc, but there is an app, which I show in the video.
Now I can sit at the bar enjoying my Jack Daniels while jamming the tunes :)
I am new to this type of product can you plug it in a amp and utilize the killer effects?
Craig
In theory yes but that’s not the intended function. It’s meant to be a headphone practice tool. But you can get creative and use it in any way you want.
Oh I know, I was just curious if you could use it with an amp.. I mean can you imagine just walking into worship practice and all you have your guitar, the Boss Go and your phone.. 😂
Damn I got so called out with the balancing phone on lap while using free Fender tuner comment. Maybe I should check out Star Trek with captions
They should just call it "The Boss." Honestly, Boss products are awesome. I own a Boss Acoustic Singer Live and Katana MK ll, and they're fantastic...especially the Acoustic Singer
Hi. Can you use the Katana GO with wireless headphones?
No. There would be latency.
I have a Fender Mustang Micro that sounds great, but I find limiting and non-intuituve. I thinking the Boss Katana headphones, but for $120 this is a no brainer.
Well in fairness to the Fender Mustang Micro ... this Boss deal is 2 to 3 years newer ...So they would have to make it cooler that the Fender. I have the Fender ... and will buy the Boss as either one of them are cool devises ...
Hey I have a question for you. What's better for practicing at home and for the beach, park, back yard etc. The katana go or the pocket gt
I am debating which one to get
I think the Go would be more convenient because its one less cable in your life and the go is attached to your guitar vs needing to sit somewhere.
@@60CycleHumcast thanks for the input. I think that made up my mind.
@60CycleHumCast sorry to big you. What do you think about the gt playback mode for UA-cam videos. Is that something you can do with the go
@@a-guitar2734 I never use that feature on the pocket gt. It looks like there is a section for that in the app for the go but I haven’t messed with it.
Kind of wondering if the stage feel is where it’s at and does it make the non stage mode feel dull? So do you think most people will play with it in stage feel mode 99% of the time? If so why not ship it in stage feel mode then use that button for something else? Katana Go v.2?
I go back and forth. Sometimes I want stage feel sometimes I don’t.
Stage feel mostly sounds like reverb (studio or stage), with the ability to pan your sound and any input sounds (backing track) independently, in a 360 orbit. It adds the effect to the input as well. It's nice...
@@60CycleHumcastsame here now that I have one. Stage feel isn’t for every preset but it does sound really good on some of the factory presets and a few I’ve made so far. I copied your settings for the trad surf preset and use that as well. It’s a pretty solid practice tool to have.
Thanks for the in depth demo, good stuff as always. 🤘🏻🎸
Backordered...
One box left to check... I want to use my Bluetooth headphones or earbuds.
I suppose you could use some with a radio line out but you’d probably have latency or interference or some other junk. Plus it’d weigh it down most likely.
So it is not compatible with blue tooth headphones?
Hey, thanks for the video! Could you clarify one thing: is it able to record DI with built in audio interface?
