I thought this was a good video and it definitely inspired me. I thought something that would have really sealed it would be examples once you were done teaching. You hinted at it with the still at the beginning of the video with that one still, but you didn't show it at the end. Additionally, the still at the beginning with its multi-colors showed the results of a technique you didn't reveal. Lastly, what about all the colors and finishes we can use? Not only didn't you talk about colors, I've heard of chrome finish (I think) and that's something that could use some explaining. You have a great teaching technique. Please think about a part 2 on this with some of those ideas. Thank you!
One last comment: I powder coated my first set of wheels for my Jeep by building an oven in my backyard out of cement blocks and and old heater element I had. I built a stand for the rims to sit on and covered it with a piece of sheet metal. I used a dollar tree electric thermometer and hung my parts on the kids swing set to coat them. My point is; be creating. I didn’t have an oven big enough for rims and I didn’t really want one. It worked great. That was seven years ago and the wheels still look new! Thanks for the pro tips. If I could add one it would be to make sure you have a really good ground. The guns use the electrical ground, but a lot of shops aren’t well grounded. Add a ground rod to your shop or house; it never hurts
Cool video! I started with a toaster over I got from a thrift store for $5. While building a CJ5 I needed a bigger oven so I built one out of an old oven and old highway signs. Then I needed an oven for longer parts and I used an old school locker. I powder coated parts for the friend who gave me the signs and oven. He shows cars and we did a lot of parts for his 69’ Cameo. Word got around and now I make a few hundred bucks a month coating parts for people. I never intended to have three ovens, and to make money off of it. It’s a fun hobby and it gives me fun money I don’t have to tell my wife about! Thanks for the vid! It’s a great intro!
I know this is an older post, but this is very helpful. I have a big job coming up. Taking the shell, flooring, etc off of a 1974 31 foot Airstream camper. Making sure the frame is in good shape. If needed I will weld on the pieces that need to be. Clean up the frame and then powder coat it. This is the big money maker for Airstreams. Many are over 40 years old. Who wants to take their chances on a rusted out frame? If you can fix up the frame, axles, etc., show and prove that the work on it has been done then the prices increases a lot on these things.
Hands down best powder coating explanation for beginner and advanced alike definitely subscribing, love the detailed explanation keep em coming theres no one on youtube explaining the process step by step thanks.
Great video!!! I build industrial powder coat systems for a living and this is about the 5th or 6th video I’ve watched this week on here about doing it at home and after watching Jimbos Garage doing it outside and wasting more powder than he was using it was actually nice to see somebody give good tips on how to do it
Hey David, I'm totally new at PC. I'm 60 years old and need a hobby. Have painted a couple of cars on my own. Intrigued by PC process. When is best time to remove small stencils from coating process? Thanks for any info you could help with.
Just started using the same kit to powder coat motorcycle parts. Your tip on only using 1/4-1/5 of powder in the gun was super helpful. Much better results than using a full bottle.
houndogforever for best results.. the hopper should contain no more than 20-25% of powder.. Any More than that and you’ll have an uncontrollable erratic powder stream. Good luck.
Great video, I've just bought a harbor freight PC system, I'm planning on doing some bike parts on my zx14. My oven i'm making out of a 31gal steel trash can and a hotplae at the bottom. My wheels have chrome that is peeling. I'm researching on how to remove the chrome.
Great information and good video techniques. I appreciate the information, especially your "spray booth" for containing the powder. Thank you very much!
Me and my son have a dirtbike garage and we wanted to start power coating parts. What would be a good kit to buy. Thanks for the video showed us alot .
Your audio set up needs some work, I have to turn up for commentary then quickly turn down for the blaring music. Aside from that excellent information.
I did not come here to listen to crappy music... why do some makers think we always need to be entertained? Just present the content, please... (since I know this will never happen, I may as well delete this comment...)
very good video. We have powder coated parts for assembly at my workplace and they have an attractive dimpled appearance that looks especially good on larger parts. Do you know how this is achieved? Thanks.
Awesome! Very much appreciated. Although I don't think you could fit that part in a toaster oven. Maybe if you stood the toaster oven on it's side.. not sure if that's ok though.
4:44 - Don't use your kitchen oven! 13:08 - Uses kitchen oven. LMAO! For real though, great video, great production and excellent explanation. Thanks man!

Another great video and its always content i am super interested in. By the way what brand are those orange lens safety glasses with the side shields they are awesome
Very nice presentation. One question. You mention 15-20 psi to the gun. Another You tuber used the Eastwood gun and said to use only 7-8 pounds with the canister half full. Anymore pressure and you can pop the canister off. Can you clarify?
Dancing Bear that’s definitely false information.. the gun is regulated, I’ve ran 30-40 psi through it when I didn’t know what I was doing and I never had those problems.. the hopper doesn’t hold pressure. It would automatically vent. Just adjust pressure until you get a nice fine mist out of the nozzle.. there is a ton of room for error. You’ll know when it’s laying on nice and not too aggressive.
Very good instructional video. I learned more from watching this video over several others for the past few hours. One question though. Are there times when you should NOT use bead blasting or chemical stripping of parts if are going to Powder Coat once they are cleaned? Thank you.
Great production on the vid, and actually dug the audio track. If the volume was too high, not by much. Bottom line: Make 'em how you like 'em, someone will hate on it no matter what you do. Perfect amount of detail and pace, thx.

So is the filter good enough or should a air dryer be inline ? Also wouldn't using copper be better to hang off of ? oh and DA means what ? Thanks. Really informative video..
wvmontani when I say DA I refer to “Dual action”. Referring to a dual action sander that basically has linear movement and some rotational movement.. it just gives a universal blended finish that makes it easy to powder on.
Yep, when cleaning parts for powder coating DA (denatured alcohol) is the preferred method and referred to often. DA leaves absolutely no residue like acetone will.
Hey hows it going Brad, great video there, I need some advice, I blasted and powdercoated this weekend and the result was not good enough so now I must strip it down and do it all over so what grit should I use, is for a motorcycle rear fender and also what do I do about the lint or the remains after wyping the part with the Pre or acetone. Thanks in advance
They don't work with a beard. By OSHA requirements you have to shave your face to get a true seal... otherwise, your filter is only good as your beard is filtering.
