Mine got stuck at about 16% and then went on really slowly (about 3 or 4% per hour) and then stopped somewhere (the most progress I know of - I checked every few hours - was 45%). I tried it 2 times and it failed. I thought I destroyed the HD. But with your help I just restored the PS3 system and it works as new. Thanks :)

It's always good to backup your game saves. Being as I have an older 80GB model, the hard drive has gotten full many times over. Game saves are very small files so in case something like the above video should happen, or you just need to make room for a new game, you can delete the game data but still have your game saves. And it froze and softlocked everytime when loading up the main menu! All it needed was a little rebuilding of the database. that usually works but try usb update method don't need hard drive unless that's bad. it's on my Tampatec home channel Sony ps3 ps4 Playlist. hope that helps
I need help I've been having my PS3 for a while now and and never had errors with it until yesterday something odd happened I was about to play RE Revelations 2 and it said checking for save data and i noticed it was taking longer than usual so i decided to quit the game but then after I pressed quit game it went to a black screen and wouldnt turn off at all so I had no choice but to unplug it so then after I turned it back on it said *The File System on The System Storage is corrupted and will be restored* so I pressed ok and then after I press ok it says Restoring please wait so it goes up to 41% and stays there for around 10 minutes then it goes up to 100% then goes to a black screen and wont do anything then after a while it restarts and says the same message so I went to safe mode and pressed Restart System it freezes my system then I press Restore File System and it stays stuck on the Preparing Screen so then I press Rebuild Database and stays stuck on the preparing screen too so I then said Oh its probably taking long because I have too much memory so I left it overnight and woke up this morning and it was still on the preparing screen and I dont know what to do now!
I had to format it, now my PS3 works like new I tried everything nothing worked so I formated it Its really the best choice you have my data was already gone
You guys need a new HDD! Your old Hard Drive is corrupted and can be formated with a sata cabel in your pc. If not? Then buy a new HDD and the black screen is gone :)
