I'm excited for the Starlancer. As a Crusader fan, I _was_ excited for the Intrepid... until we saw it. And... woof... it is the ugliest fucking ship in the 'verse. This horrendously botched design is _not_ a Crusader ships. _Some_ Crusader ships have _some_ hull asymmetry. But their cockpit and engines are always symmetrical and along the centre-line of the ship. But even if it looked good, it is 1/3 of a Nomad. It has a third of the DPS, a third of the shields, and a third of the cargo. So, I'd expect the price to be a max of $27. Org mates took it for a flight last night on the PTU. You can't do most Hauling missions because you can only load 1 or 2 SCU boxes. And with full power to weapons, the FL-33 gets 10 shots. Just doing VLRT certification was slow and grueling. This ship would be a horrible experience for new players.
I was so hyped for this ship, and really wanted it in my fleet, now I'm just disappointed, but I think they intentionally underpowered the Intrepid so they could nerf the Avenger Titan in the future because let's be honest the Titan is kinda OP in terms of its firepower for an all-rounder starter ship.
Intrepid is perfectly fine at the Cutter or Cutter Rambler price point. Undergunned, sure, but very fast, very agile, and solid quantum range. But it absolutely cannot sell for the same price as the overpowered Titan Avenger.
Reminder, if you need a real starter ship take the NOMAD. It got 24scu, 3xS1 shields, 3xS3 guns, bed to logout, pilot TractorBeam, no landing issue, cant be stolen due to ladders , lots of qt fuel for it's size ( you dont need speed if you just started the game ). And it's almost the same price than this crappy crusader.
This ship is built to be on par with the Pisces and Cutter and should be priced accordingly. At $45-50 it has a place among the other starters. Any more than that and it would need a buff and would start moving out of the true Starter category to the realm of the Avengers and 300 series. Current build I think it is a valid $45 choice compared to the other options but certainly does not obsolete them. This is assuming it has a speed and endurance advantage over other ships in that price range together with its better interior it would be an alternative choice for starter. Not something I would fly but could be right for someone.
@@JadedMantis13 I agree besides the gun. It is worse than any other ship with only one gun. But I like combat, but I feel it's good if you look past that
@@Astro_Mani That is my thinking. Certainly not for everyone but it has something to offer for someone who does not care about the gun. Personally I think it COULD bump its gun to S4 and still stay in the starter category but it is a bit difficult to say as so much of weapon and armour balance is still in flux. Certainly by current performances it would not be a problem and would make the ship design actually make sense in the $45-50 range.
Thats why you wait until the shields down before you use size 1 missile. Strategic thinking and use of limited resources is important when trying to fly under armed ships.
Hands down best starter in the verse for what you get. Lets be real, its a starter hauler not a pvp/e ship like the avenger. Best interior for a starter ship hands down, you can actually live out of this ship AND its got a suit locker. I'll chose function over form anyday. 100% agree this needs at least a size 4 gun though.
Nomad has twice as much damage, a tractor beam, can haul vehicles. penguin can carry more and does more damage for cheaper. The Syulen only loses 2 SCU but loads up easier and is better in combat. A cutter does more damage and carries just as much. Are you okay in the head?
@@jacob9ist Its a starter hauling/explorer ship that you can actually live out of, why do you keep comparing it to other ships with higher dps, its clearly NOT a fighter ship...are YOU ok in the head? Name me another starter with a bed, bathroom and suit locker with 8 scu....oh wait, you cant.
This strikes me as a daily driver for non-combat solo pilots. But that S3 single gun is dogshit, no matter what you put on it. The nomad has 3 S3's on it, more cargo, an interior. The Titan also has a S3, and 2 S2's as well. This is a nice looking ship that is ruined by how weak it is, and since 'looking nice' isn't really a valid role in SC.. it fills no valid roles in the verse. Unless it is super cheap to offset the downsides, I don't see people using it.
Maybe because they insisted on giving it the whole asymmetrical big gun body shape? If it was shaped like the C1 I doubt there would have been much concern if it had small guns.
To fix this ship so it isn't completely terrible. Make the gun s5 bespoke. Replace one cargo bay with a prisoner pod. Replace other cargo bay with another power plant and shield. Move the cockpit over to center it since it's ugly as shit. Atleast it has gun racks.
@@Schimyping Seems odd to put an offset single weapon on a ship that is meant for cargo or as courier, the offset s7 on the ares accentuates the fact that it's a little ship with a single big gun. This ship just has a huge area dedicated to a single s3.
@@matthewbrady5274 I'm not arguing the oddity of how it looks, I'm arguing that YOU propose completely altering the ship's function. I never even mentioned a gun
Okay, then I have a cargo/courier version if you'd like. Keep the weird asymmetry. Remove the weapon entirely and put two s2 on the wings or beneath the nose. The only reason for my original comment is that is what I saw when I first looked at the ship, what could have been a little brother to the ares, competition for the hawk. A small police craft for chasing criminals as they leave crusader. Instead it's just awkward imo.
What ship are you most excited for?
Use the 5A's thats the secret - its nimble enough. Also can you put the small hand boxes in front of the cargo

The intrepid
what a nice ship, i'm going to buy the starlancer.
@@jckl9884 lmao!
starlancer max is so worth it
If it kept everything but had a decent cap and a S5, it would be a winner.
As it sits, it is a downgunned 100i with a better interior

Oh. It is a Crusader ship. It is just that to keep the price low its construction is being outsourced to a factory in Pyro...

We are forgetting price. The nomad could be drastically more expensive for a starter compared to this.
I'm glad we have yet another ship but no armor for it, usable utility slots, reliable working ladders or npc crew for them.
It seems like The intrepid is just a good LTI starter ship for now.

Insipid - Lacking significance or impact, arousing no interest or attention or curiosity or excitement. So it's the Crusader "Insipid"......
for a new player this ship is going to be awesome for level 1 cargo hauling missions. if you only do combat, this ship isn't for you
Seems to be competing with the 135c if anything
