  • Walela(Rita Coolidge, Priscilla Coolidge, and Laura Satterfield)in concert at Symphony Space in May of 2000. Walela is the cherokee word for humming bird, Rita's name.
This is a rare opportunity to see something that is now history, a rare chance to see what was a beautiful event from the original camera masters with an audio feed from the sound board.
    Enjoy

I so wish that Walela had put out more records. They had such a unique gift to offer.

I don't understand a single word you sang but it adds another dimension to your vast selection of great songs and background. I know the Native Americans got the short end of the stIck when it comes to the way this country was colonized and thanks for keeping the Cherokee history alive. By birth I am Irish and so I can easily emphasize with your struggles. This has endeared you all the more to me and I am talking about the Great Rita Coolidge.

This is great hearing Indian music again. I lost my best friend in the Air Force was a Comanche and I used to go to pow wows with.
She used to say when I am not drinking I am a Comanche and when I am drinking I am a coming at cha. She would get wild under the influence of fire water. At funeral. They sang Indian songs all night, it was different. But the honor guard came from the base I used to be stationed and let me be a part of it.

I am a Half Breed Cherokee from Tennessee & damn proud of it. I just hope other Cherokee women follow them & continue their Cherokee legacy because I am sick & tired of the Cherokee being exploited by the White man. As I go to every official Cherokee site all I get is Cherokee children singing Christian Gospel songs. It really pisses me off, we can not even find Cherokee language, songs, stories or cultures without a reminder of the fucking trail of tears.

Children need to be at the feet of the elders, listening to them speak and watching how they conduct themselves. And we need to be recording their voices speaking the language in conversation.

Why don't you ask the LORD to save you so you will not be using those dirty words and have some respect for the Christians. I have Cherokee blood in me , My grandmother was full blooded Cherokee

Beautiful!! So sad that Priscilla lost her battle with cancer.

Unfortunately Priscilla was shot by her husband in a murder suicide, she was battling cancer from my understanding thru the years prior to her murder. Horrible end for a talented human being. What's happened to Laura Satterfield, her daughter, is unknown.

I think Laura Satterfild was at her best with Walela...she has had a solo career though. I like her though.

Laura had a record deal with Triloka records with only one solo album. I knew Laura and spoke with her about her experiences with Walela and her solo career, sadly we lost touch thru the years, we last spoke around 2006. The sound of Walela will never happen again with the loss of Rita Coolidge.

The loss of Priscilla Coolidge is what I meant to type, Priscilla was killed by her husband in a murder suicide a few years ago. Rita Coolidge is still alive, thank god.
