    Wow, they went through the rear of the field to let us know most of the back markers. Never see that anymore and it's been a long time since it happened.

    Imo, this was the most dangerous track they went to. 3 fast straightaways and 3 different corners. You don't want to lose your brakes here

    1:26:04 Ned (to Rusty Wallace) "Rumors are that you met with Roger Penske"
    Wallace: "Rumors are just that, rumors"
    For 1990, Rusty re-signs with Blue Max Racing for that season, but signs a 5-year sponsorship deal with Miller Beer...In 1991 Wallace and Penske create Penske Racing South

    The angle of that Lake Speed/Greg Sacks crash was really bad. Those kind of wrecks could kill you pretty easily in that era.

    Boy that was a bad accident thank goodness Greg sacks was okay must have been the way he hit to spread out the impact. If he'd just come to a sudden stop it could have been devastating.

    • @SMIFFTV
      @SMIFFTV  Рік тому +2

      Probably the way the boiler plate gave on impact helped mitigate the force of the hit. If that had been concrete, it would've been ugly. As it was, Lake Speed broke or separated his shoulder in that one

      That was a famous car for Gant!! I'm pretty sure he won the June 1990 Pocono race in that car! A lot of drivers named their cars/chasis back then. Davey Allison, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon etc. had some famous named cars that they ran for years at certain tracks.

  • @GearheadGeisha

    You’d think it would have been Speed checking on Sacks, especially if you lack understanding on how physics work!

    • @jamesgentry13
      @jamesgentry13 4 роки тому +3

      Sudden stop vs flip... the sudden impact crash is way worse than the flipping one. Sounds like you should retake physics

    • @GearheadGeisha
      @GearheadGeisha 4 роки тому

      @@jamesgentry13 That was exactly my point... That while the flip tends to look more frightening, it's really the sudden stop that does the damage.

      @@GearheadGeisha The way you worded your comment, though, made it sound like you were either clueless or sarcastic. It was hard to tell.
      I see you understand a sudden impact is much worse than a barrel roll, however. We can all agree on that.

      Michigan still had a steel guardrail down the back stretch in 1989. Different era! Pocono had concrete in the turns for 1990 and around the entire track in 1991.

    As I sit here (Nov 13th of 2021) having just watched this Pocono Cup race from 1989, I just have to say to Chocolate Meyers NO, NO, NO! The Racing today IS NOT BETTER than it was "back in the day"!! 😒 Look, I get "The Nascar Media Pushers" of today, which Mr Meyers is a member of, feel it's their job to pump up their product, but just stop blowing smoke up my skirt & tell'n me it's from a Forrest fire! 🤨 Don't get me wrong, today's Nascar Racing is good, sometimes Great, but it was just as Great & sometimes even Greater back then, I have eye's too Chocolate 😉
