I replace my Elegoo Mars 3 pro FEP fairly frequently. (User carelessness, not the machine or Elegoo's fault.) I don't have foam laying around for a spacer, with that said, I use a stack of 32 fresh playing cards as my spacer, and it works great. 32 playing cards as a spacer. This is a reminder for myself and a tip for others. I found that tip on Reddit, I think.
Thank you for this information. I will be changing my fep on my Elegoo mars 3 pro as well but am very nervous. Thank you once again for this tip. Hope you have a great rest your day.
Cutting I generally use X-acto knives anyway, and I tighten in a criss-cross pattern by initially running the screws in until all the screws are seated and then torquing to ensure an even tension. Just like you would do when setting up an Engine head or tightening tires to the hub. I used dental tools to pop the FEP, which I actually use to remove supports and clean up any nubs left over from printing. The foam looks like some I used to extrude when I worked in plastic foams; I would say it would be 1/4" x 2" x 2". I just had that foam as a sheet hanging around, and it would have been the same foam from the original Printer packaging.
The text in the video says a 50x35x5mm piece of foam but, based on how the foam actually shown being used is wider than the center three holes at the top of the squash, that looks like an 80x70mm piece mentioned in previous Mars videos (those being stated as 8mm thick rather than 5mm). So which set of dimensions are correct for the Mars 3 tanks? What is written or what is actually used? Thanks!
I just tried replacing my sheet with the piece of foam mentioned and it got way too tight. Like a lot tighter than before and there is a recommended tone it should give off when struck, which should be around 300-350 Hz (according to my source at least) and it was way over 600 before it was even 100% tight. The foam in the video looks to be about 70x60mm and probably taller than 5 mm as well. So Elegoo should really check the dimensions they're giving here.
@@mx.lucyfur I just did it with a larger pad made of post-its. Still a lot more tension but it works, at least I was able to tension the screws all the way without the fear of the whole vat exploding. Out of curiosity, I tried to rip the FEP cut-offs apart. Turns out it's ridiculous how much that stuff streches, so I'm not too worried anymore. I did create quite a musical drum yesterday, though, which I can't recommend.
when you are not using much force you can absolutly cut torwards yourself. Also cuting torwards yourself you have more controll. It highly depends on what you are doing if you can oder shouldn't cut torwards yourself.
No need for nit-picking anyone with the commonsense/skills to change this out dont need to be concerning themselves with the trivialitys of which way to cut with a knife ,,,
Shouldn’t they include that piece of foam with replacement release film? I have the Mars 4 Ultra, which uses ACF…similar but different…and I had no idea how thick the piece of foam needed to be. So, I just placed a small stack of disposable shop towels (which I cut into 4 so I’m not wasting an entire towel when I just need a small piece to , for example, wipe the bottle of resin after pouring into the tank) down before proceeding. No idea if the ACF is too tight, or not tight enough…guess I’ll find out since I have a print running now.
So that piece of foam to relieve tension looks important. Was it supposed to come with the machine or the FEP sheet? Because I didn't get one with my Mars3 pro. I noticed that protective foam in the box the FEP came with is 5mm. Could I cut a rectangle from it? Also are the dimension in the description correct for a Mars3 Pro vat? Thank you
Where do we get the right fep from? I’ve only seen 3rd party on Amazon Australia and don’t know which is the right one to get. My mars 3 pro didn’t come with any spares.
super annoyed just got my printer and it arrived with an almost pen sized hole in the fep and no spare sheets, but at least replacing it doesn’t seem too much of a pain…..
Never cut toward yourself. :) Also, shouldn't it be tightened in a cross-weave pattern (top left, bottom right, top right, bottom left, etc.?) I would recommend wearing gloves. There is a tone analyzer somewhere on the internet that when you thump the FEP and record it to this analyzer, it will give a precise tone if you have done it correctly. Love the video!!!!
with the high dollars we spend on these you would think the spacer would be part of what you buy. I spent 45.00 of the feb only to find out now I need to monkey rig a way to use it. Really need to think about those who buy the products and not run things on the cheap on your end we are paying high dollars for just 5 sheets
When I tighten the screws they won't punch a hole through the film and I'm going to end up stripping the hex head on the screw. What do I do? @elegoo official
Hello friend, M2, M2.5, M3, M5 Hex wrenches are included in the tool kit of the Mars 3 box. If you haven't got them, please shoot an email at service@elegoo.com, and our after-sale service team will try to help you out.

32 playing carts? i just counted those out and thats quite a fat stack
Sure it’s 32 cards and not 3-2 cards? 32 cards is a substantial pile
@@dmzura4005 I am using 13 because that is a little under 5 mm, which is the height of the foam they use
I found that about 4-5 sheets of toilet paper folded a couple of times worked well.

I just replaced my Mars 2 Pro's without using any foam or spacer lol.
In the middle of a 6hr print rn, Seems to be working fine.
When cutting off the FEP excess material, please remember to cut away from yourself not towards yourself as presented here.
I was so worried!
I was about to say same similar! Waiting for an edit where a bandaid popped in outta nowhere lol
@@JB-smokn Same. Terrible example cutting towards yourself like that.

Always cut away from your hand NOT towards it kids.
Haha. Yeah. Terrible demonstration
So no tuning, just a foam piece? By God Ive been struggling way to hard to understand how to properly do this x)
The way he was cutting towards himself with that knife was giving me anxiety haha, That's how you cut yourself.

5 mm

So there's no need to puncture holes in the FEP for the Mars 3. Do the screws just puncture it themselves?
no, its just really finicky, especially for the first 4 screws. It gets easier after that
i use the back of the allen wrenches given for the set to punch the holes, my factory fep sheet had puncture holes in it
Where do we get the right fep from? I’ve only seen 3rd party on Amazon Australia and don’t know which is the right one to get.
My mars 3 pro didn’t come with any spares.
Hello Paul, please make contact with service@elegoo.com and our after-sale support team will help you out.
quick question, I locked the 4 final corner screws in first anyone think that would make a difference? The FEP was still very tight and seemed right.
I can’t seem to get the first set of bolts off, they’re all completely. Stuck. What can I do about this?
Please shoot an email at 3dp@elegoo.com and take a video of the problem, our engineer will offer further help.
I didn't use the/a foam sponge. Is that bad? Ord what's it's purpose?
Better use the sponge, otherwise the FEP may be too tense.
Where do I get "the foam" from?
The box top cushion from a 500ml bottle of resin from some brands is just about the right size.
Had to change my FEP - and it's easy. Lots of screws...
Does this not require tuning?
?
Elegoo tanks are designed in such a way to not require "tuning" Loosen the bolts and you'll get a leak
It's like putting a new head on a drum and tuning it. Lol
how thick should the foam be?
5mm
@@ElegooOfficial Where can the 5mm foam be obtained?
I found that there was a 5mm thick piece of foam in the original packaging (if you have the Mars 3 Pro, don’t know about the standard Mars 3).
@@mollymetroid Most craft stores. Also dollar store foam board around here (confirm for your area) is 5mm.
What should the other two dimensions (length and width) of the foam be?
I love the vat design. The process descriptions are...odd. ;)

Cut towards your fingers ? Not the best safety idea always cut away from your fingers !
Test of the video was great
I’ve did all this and the screws never tighten !

Pretty sure the foam that the replacement fep comes with is exactly the right width, you just need to cut it to size.

did you get an answer for this?
Painful watching you cut with that Staley knife towards yourself
omg, cant watch here using the knife against here hand! Pleas dont do it that way! Always use the knife away from your hand!!!
Why would they make these hex screws instead of Philips or even flathead. Jesus
Easier to work with. Less striping more torque.
@@Kimkim-gl6qc I can see that, yeah haha. I can't belive it's almost been a year since I swapped my FEP
