I am genuinely struggling to wait until this video is made public to share it. I am so glad to hear you speaking so frankly. I know that it is easier for us to feel a connection, but your videos helped me make it through my studies & beat my impostor syndrome at work. It takes guts to talk to a medical professional, and I truly commend you for being able to get back on your feet & back to work. You keep being an inspiration, well done on your progress, keep fighting the good fight.
Watched one of your videos, found the site, found the blog ‘I am not ok’. Few parallels to my life (Burnout, anxiety, Thyroid Issues). Nice to see you happy and healthy Simon and look forward to seeing more of your brilliant and varied videos. All the best.
Seeing this vid of yours, it really makes me feel I am not alone. Recently my own mental health has plummeted, and I am now clawing out of that dark hole. You're physical proof that it is possible to break the cycle. Thank you for sharing this with us, and I wish you all the best!
Maybe you should have stated earlier that this video was sponsored by Notion. But despite that, it felt like an incredibly honest recommendation. I'll try it out later!
@@deinaworld I totally agree and am glad you got through it! It takes courage to acknowledge one's own anxiety and also step back and take the time for reflection. In that sense the sponsorship is totally irrelevant, and even fits the narrative well. Having tried Notion for the last two days, I also know what he means. It is indeed a catalyst for reflection and organization of ideas. I am looking forward to future videos!
I've started using notion recently but I do wish you had stated it was a sponsored video by them earlier on. It can be deceptive to leave that until after you've talked positively about their product for several minutes. Otherwise, glad you're doing better!
Seems like we've had a similar journey over the past few months, glad to see you are doing well! I had suffered from depression for years, but what really added up was anxiety ... I had problems finishing my dissertation for Uni, which led to significant financial problems, guilt about having to ask my parents for money, which led to more problems in my academic work, etc. My first step towards recovery was a first date :D. We had decided to go swimming, which reminded me how much I love this sport, even though I hadn't worked out in years. And even though we stopped dating shortly after, I've been working out in the pool twice a week ever since (Thank you F., sincerely :)). Shortly after I got a part-time job as an hpc-developer, which really helped financially. I am no longer dependent on my parents, can pay off debt, and I am also finally finishing my degree. I started tracking my monthly budget, did some projections into the future, which means I actually have a plan going forward. What can I say, for the first time in years I feel like a human again, someone who isn't afraid to get up in the morning and is looking forward to the future :). Hope you'll keep going! Love your work!
Simon, you are such an incredible person! Personally, I've watched you for years, and doing what you're doing right now is a really really impressive thing! I've been on a struggle, in my own life, and on my graduate studies, but these pieces of advice were helpful. Thank you for opening up publicly and helping many others like me!
As a fellow anxiety sufferer, I know how hard it is. One thing you must remember, even through the tough times, is that ANXIETY IS A LIAR. Anything it tells you is not true. The feelings you feel are only adrenaline coursing through your body. We will survive. You will survive. I’m glad to see you’re doing better.
I have been using Notion on and off for a few months, and I've found it to be truly life-changing. Would love to see more videos from you on how YOU use Notion and your different workspaces a bit more in-depth. Great video, Simon!
I'm glad you've posted this video Simon, I'm sure like a previous video this should help reduce your anxiety. A happy, fully functioning Simon Clark is what we all need. Good luck, we are all counting on you.
This video is exactly what I have been thinking about! Ali also introduced me into notion and it has changed so much about my life for university, work and all my side projects. I love the emoji's you can add just adds nice little pieces.
So glad you continued painting, I'm in my last year of my PhD and picking up my geeky uncool GW painting again. It has given me a sense of calm and control in something that doesn't happen in my day to day. I'm London based, and if you want to play I'm game :D
I'm currently experiencing much of what you were experiencing back then due to various life issues. Hearing your story has really given me hope in my ability to change myself. It can often feel so hopeless.

Congratulations Simon for getting yourself on the track to getting well again! Really well done mate, it's often scary to open up about these sorts of things, and it can be so difficult to take the steps you've been taking to get yourself better when you're unwell. Awesome job mate, and I hope this newfound happiness continues to grow!
thank you simon for the tip that students get it for free!! i tried notion for a while until i ran out of space and was so bummed about the $4/mth cost which i couldn't afford. i'm definitely getting notion now! also, thank you for sharing your story and your growth, it warms my heart knowing you're in a better headspace
Yeah, I'm all in favour of people getting sponsorship from brands they love. And I can vouch for the impact of productivity apps on wellbeing. And Notion is a great bit of software. But I think it's better to disclose the sponsorship as soon as you mention the product, if not before.
Jeez, it's like he's never seen a sponsored YogsCast video, where Lewis literally shouts through a loudspeaker "This is a Sponsored Video! just so you know..."
I've been using Notion for a few months for organising my life, organising my work tasks and even organising hobby projects. Really awesome to hear it helps others with the same sort of things.
Hey I know it’s been awhile since you made this but I scrolled back a bit on your channel watching vids (huge science nerd) and am so glad I found this. As a senior in college working to complete my undergrad in STEM, I often feel so discouraged and like I’m not really moving forward in life because my future career pathway looks a bit different than those of my peers. I really appreciate hearing your perspective and I’m so glad to hear things are better for you. I’m definitely gonna give Notion a try (thanks for mentioning the free upgrade for students!) and see if it helps with building self confidence regarding reaching my goals and moving forward in life. I hope this year is very good to us both.
I’m working toward a Computer Science degree and have felt discouraged too. I’m going to be a senior this Fall. I’ve decided to try self-medicating with caffeine to see if that helps; I suspect that regular exercise would be just as effective as caffeine if not moreso - and without a lot of downsides of caffeine - but just as Simon admitted in this video, I too did not feel like exercising and still don’t. So we’ll see how this goes. My problem isn’t nearly the same as yours; I have many good career paths to choose from but I just lack the discipline and motivation to pull through and get my work done sometimes. I hope caffeine works.
I signed my temporary withdrawal from my integrated mphys astrophysics on monday, so this is exactly what i needed. you're a legend, i'm glad you're doing better :-)
Really sorry to hear that you had some difficult months last year. But great to hear that you have now rebooted your life. Your video could not have been more timely for me, as at rather a low point after losing my father and best friend a week either side of Xmas. Unfortunately have been somewhat drifting through life since then, as everything a bit of a blur - despite having so much still to sort out. Will definitely look into Notion, as have been using a clunky combination of Google Keep, Evernote and a multi-tab spreadsheet to try and keep track of everything. I hope you will do a further update on your progress with it in due course. Take care and thanks again.
Considering this is a sponsored video, you went about it in a strange way. However, I can totally believe the difference Notion has made for you. I'm a 3rd year Computer Science student and it has made a world of difference for me. I've got planning pages for where I'm at with the project, what I've neglected (Trello rip off for all you comp sci kids), how much time every day/week I've worked on it, weekly reflections, ideas towards the writing portion of my dissertation. It has turned an entangled mess into something I can clearly see how to get to the end with nice milestones along the way. Glad you found it too!
i'm so indescribably happy to hear that you have managed to make these positive changes in your life!! it's such a big big big deal for a person to have the courage to take charge of one's own life and deal with the problems that are stealing way too much energy in every day life. i seriously cannot emphasise clearly enough how big of a deal it is, it's sO GREAT. I hope 'Turned my life around' is on the top of some 'achievements/i really did that' list in notion. also, im really intrigued by notion and realised while watching that i do very similar things with Notes on apple devices, so thank you for sharing!
I spent most of my late teens to mid-twenties in dark depression/ anxiety and panic. Made worse by the fact that I saw it as a weakness so I never told anyone and was always seen by others as being very laid back and positive which meant I was permanently living a lie. I also self medicated with drugs and alcohol which wasn't smart. The thing that turned it around was CBT and taking a proactive approach to changing my thinking. I am pretty much fine these days thanks to a daily care plan of exercise/ meditation/ nutrition/ socialising / gratitude exercises and focusing on contributing to my community as well as cutting out all alcohol and drugs. I have to have all this stuff in my weekly schedule along with my work or it doesn't get done.
Great job on exercising. I used to think I don't have time to exercise only to get more stressed. I run 4 times a week and I am much happier and better.
I have started using Notion also, and it's really great! As someone with similar mental health issues, I genuinely understand what a difference having a solid system of organisation can make. Goal setting for me has also helped with minimising anxiety and improving self confidence for sure. It's nice to have a few more ideas for Notion setups now :) thanks for the video!
Absolutely going to try Notion out. I've been feeling very similar about not having clear direction in my day to day tasks, so maybe this will help me align my tasks with my goals.
I'm glad to hear you feel better now Simon, and hope all the things you have planned to this year goes well. Also, I have to say I explore Notion when you posted in Instagram, and, for a uni student, it is helping a lot. Thanks you so much for all your work
Watching this video while I type this! I went to the gp and got put on a waiting list for cbt! It went great but I had to do it online as the place was too far away from my University! I then went to a private therapist for cbt! CBT has been very helpful for me! Glad you're doing better Simon keep up the good work 😊
Actually welling up here, Simon. Glad to see that you're doing much better within yourself, and I think that you are an absolute saint for sharing your journey and strategies with us. You are such a wonderful bloke, and I know that your mere presence brightens up many of our days - it certainly does mine! Thrilled to hear you've taken a multi-pronged approach with it all. From experience, CBT can be really transformative, and so I hope the waiting list shifts swiftly for you. Keep on keeping on, mate. There may be stumbling blocks, days or weeks where things regress a little, and that's okay. It's all a journey, and we're supporting you every step of the way. - Liam PS: As I type this, 69 views lol.
Notion and other applications are very helpful. But personally, I still choose to use the usual way of planning things: to write it down. By jotting down notes, I can easily remember what will be the today's schedule, and I can even bring my note pad with me anywhere, anytime. Well, that is just my opinion. At the end of the day, it's not how you plan that matters. It's all about how you make actions to reach those plans.
I've started using a physical to do planner, I always find with digital ones I just find ways to ignore that they exist. It's made me so much more productive! Might try out notion just so that I have it in case I forget my physical to-do list.
Simon, thank you SO MUCH for sharing your struggle. I particularly appreciate you saying that the medication is a band aid until you get counselling, it is often perceived as the cure. I had cognitive behavioural therapy and totally cured my depression thanks to it. It gave me tools for a lifetime. I hope you will find it a good fit ❤ You've done the hardest part, which is to reach out for help. The rest won't be all fun and games, but you've already won the first battle. If you feel, while in therapy, that there is a resistance within you, a will to stop, to find excuse. I would advise to pull through, that's when the biggest progress will likely be made. I don't know why, we sometimes resist getting better. Maybe it's fear of the unknown... Wishing you all the best xxx
Glad to know that you’re doing better now! Taking a break is really important, and so is investing in yourself. Thank you for having shared your story with us. Please put yourself first and always take the time to take care of yourself. :) PS. Giving Notion a go! Currently in grad school and I need something more than the usual pen and paper planner and my phone calendar to keep on top of things! 🙂
Simon, it’s awesome to see the change you’ve had since the last vid. I LOVE that you’ve been implementing Notion and to see that you met up with Ali was the cherry on the cake 😎 I’ve been using Notion so far for a couple of months for uni note taking and essay planning but I’m about to start using it as you have for much broader planning and goal setting (great to see what works for people)! I also just found out the other day about the free student account and got unbelievably excited. Thank you so much for the vid, all the best for the future 😋
I was suffering massive amounts of anxiety at work until I started putting all of my work into a list I could just work through at my own speed. It's just a word document, but it's interesting to know there's software a lot
I've been using motion for a while but can't seem to make a weekly schedule that is at all useful, could someone show me how to make a template like Simon did? I can't get it to look at nice and to be as usable, thanks!
I feel you man, my mental health was also affected recently. I received a terrible supervisor for my final year project and is now going to have to appeal. What I find interesting is that so many people have been coming out exploring their mental health experience within the last 4 months. I wonder if it has anything to do with lac of Vit D. Be sure to supplement if you havtn already
So happy that you're doing better, always rooting for you. As for organisation, my productivity and drive at work has shot up since I started using something similar - I hadn't thought about applying the same to my personal life! I'll look into this, thanks :D
Have been thinking for a while about using this, assuming you're free to speak about it since the sponsorship's a while ago, do you still think Notion is worth using?
Thanks for giving a scientifically accurate and realistic perspective on medication. Not a cure but can help you get back on your feet if needed by helping sleep/ eating/ etc. 🙂
11:16 that first life lesson is the most relatable thing ive ever seen. like "ah fuck, im supposed to be over that, what do you mean ignoring all my problems isnt the same as not having problems?" mental illness: and i would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for your meddling self care!
Yeah, I agree that meds are mostly a bandaid to manage the symptoms of mental health. I've got meds for my Autism, but the greatest help is spending time unwinding and working on reducing the stress factors in my life.
I am so overwhelmed I spend my time doing nothing at all yet Iam so busy I donno what to do I have a huge exam coming (med school) and I can’t afford losing time 😢😔 Help plz
Am enjoyable and genuine video. It's my first on your channel (physics is a bit over my head) but I saw you in 🗝️x🗝️ and it's serendipitous that I heard about Notion this week *and* spent too much time in GW on N.I.H St. So well done for getting out there!
I get overwhelmed at the idea of using a planner, paper or software. Every school year I try and use one and by mid semester, I pretty much completely drop out of it. I can't help being an organizational failure I guess. My point is I don't see how another piece of software, no matter how good it is, would help me.
Glad you managed to get your life turned around. My own life has been nothing but spiral dive to the void and I know that sooner than later I will end my life. There is nothing in the world that is going to change this, I am simply waiting for my parents to go first. I don't want to leave them wondering what they could of have done differently or to help me. I suffer from anxiety, have anxiety attacks often. Severe depression and fear of social situations. I have to admit that making youtube videos helped me a little, then UA-cam / Google screwed that up and everything just went worse. I sleep like 0-6 hours a night, I dislike to sleep due to nightmares. Barely have money after bills to get macaronies to have something at least to eat, usually left with less than 10€ after bills. That's for "living and food".
Seems like a really useful tool, will definitely check it out! Also, where can I find that book stand on your desk, something like that would certainly remind me to keep up to date on my reading goals for the year?
Would like there to be an option to have a recovery email for Notion when having signed up with a university email... What if you change universities? What if you forgot to change it and want to at least recover your account...?
Simon, one reason why I absolutely love you is because of your honesty- it takes a lot of guts to do this. (Another reason is bc of our shared love for History and Physics!). I would also recommend getting into some form of Buddhist meditation (not Western mindfulness...) and quitting social media. Maybe get a brick phone too; it works wonders. Kind Regards. Keep it up comrade.
Thank you, Simon! I've been looking for an app just like Notion for the better part of a year. I've tried apps like Evernote, Notability, and a hog-pog of Google Docs, but I've never found something that is as customizable as I'd like. Gunna give Notion a try!
Damn, I really appreciate you talking about these. Heh, I too recently gravitated back to paint warhammer (lotr ones). Notion seems nice, I'll give it a try but I.. don't have any goals to track.. Would like to link my outlook calendar to Notion!
If u have problems of anixety and depression.... You should watch Sadhguru's videos... It would even work better than Notion... I use notion for everything as well.... But Sadhguru will change ur life from the roots u should definitely check him out... Just type Sadhguru On UA-cam and you'll find loads of his videos .... Can't recommend him enough
Aawh.. Insha Allah you will remain always in a good condition both physically and mentally! Especially in current times we all struggle with this.. I find it very courageous of you to share this with us.. for some reason there seems to be still some stigma, thus leaving a threshold for people to seek aid in whatever way... we all need it.. STAY STRONG DUDE! :)

- Liam
PS: As I type this, 69 views lol.
Haha nice
Thank you for this. Really hoping that CBT can help set some new thought pathways :)
@@SimonClark yeah cock and balls torture really helped me turn around my life too.
@@noether9447 Cognitive-behavioural therapy (although every time I read CBT I laugh a bit inside)
@@manuelbonet I know. I watched the video too. It was just my attempt at humour.
Thankyou Simon knowing that I’m not alone in feeling this way really does help and give me hope that things will be okay 👍
Thank you so much for your honesty Simon. Your reflection is so, so valuable ❤️
Genuinely, it's so rare to hear men talking so candidly about these things. Absolute king!
Notion changed my life as well... a revolutionary app!
Glad to know that you’re doing better now! Taking a break is really important, and so is investing in yourself. Thank you for having shared your story with us. Please put yourself first and always take the time to take care of yourself. :)
PS.
Glad you're feeling better now mate
Can you share your templates? Specially the first one, I really liked it and want to implement it
Another excellent article by Simon. Been through these kind of things, more.
THANK YOU MAN, YOU'RE AWESOME. HOPE YOU'RE DOING WELL. FROM SPAIN.
I tried evernote but the pricing is prohibitive. I loved OneNote but microsoft gutted the functionality of the new version. ill give this a try
Have been thinking for a while about using this, assuming you're free to speak about it since the sponsorship's a while ago, do you still think Notion is worth using?
Thanks for sharing, Simon! So happy to see that you're feeling better about everything :D
Thanks very much, as a phd student, I will definitely try it later.
great to see you back on track! Looking forward for your new videos
Thanks for giving a scientifically accurate and realistic perspective on medication. Not a cure but can help you get back on your feet if needed by helping sleep/ eating/ etc. 🙂
This video was extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Gonna have a look. I'm certainly in a similar situation and need that sheet of planner. Asana is not cutting it for me
I think you're setting an excellent example. Way to go, man.
lol, didn’t even see that Ali interview coming! Congrats on feeling better, and hoping for many more good days and months!🥳

that first life lesson is the most relatable thing ive ever seen. like "ah fuck, im supposed to be over that, what do you mean ignoring all my problems isnt the same as not having problems?"
mental illness: and i would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for your meddling self care!
can you make an online template on your weekly schedule on Notion, Thanks
Yeah, I agree that meds are mostly a bandaid to manage the symptoms of mental health. I've got meds for my Autism, but the greatest help is spending time unwinding and working on reducing the stress factors in my life.
They never went on that holiday to Madrid, I suppose.
I am so overwhelmed
I spend my time doing nothing at all yet Iam so busy
I donno what to do
I have a huge exam coming (med school) and I can’t afford losing time 😢😔
Help plz
I feel you😭😭 I'm in the same situation
Ok, one question
Does NoFap Works?
I love the honesty!
Can you share your template?
How can I stay piece and can study physics in master degree. Please help me
Hey. You okay?
Simon Clark i am a student and how can i acces to Notion since i have no education email.
The "how" in this video is WAY more concrete than anyone might expect going into it. Means many might pick up on it!
Seems like a really useful tool, will definitely check it out! Also, where can I find that book stand on your desk, something like that would certainly remind me to keep up to date on my reading goals for the year?
Here! geni.us/simonbookstand
That t-shirt is a thing of beauty.
I am in school right now but i hate it i hate everything about college the way they teach the teachers everything.
Absolutely need this in my life at the moment thank you Dr. Simon Clark for this great video
Hoping the best for you 😊
Thank you for this video. It helped me to get back on track with my mental health 🙌🏼
Good shit bro!
Much love!!
You're awesome!!! Thank you.
If you could turn back into14 years what would you do as a 14 yr old
If u have problems of anixety and depression....
Thank you too for everything 😄
I got familiar with this wonderful channel via Ali Abdaal channel, love you guys.
You should probably mention the fact that this is sponsored from the beginning :L
(And you should also set the includes paid promotion tag on)
Piano inspiration: satie gnoissiennes 3 & 4. theyre very mysterious.
aw Simon, i love you and your videos. I'm so happy to see you're doing well!! 🤓💕✌🏻
I also started binging StarTrek a few weeks ago :)
Means?
IT'S SO GOOD
If I want to start watching for the first time, should I watch in the order they premiered, or chronologically?
im questioning the med route...many ppl have positive reviews but i want to see if its truly not me and instead chemically first
i am currently finishing a course of telephone cbt :o it has really helped to give me hope that in future i'll be able to do the things i can't currently
Im glad looking at you smiling and sharing your thouhgts you deserve like many of us some packets of happiness every step you do. .. until next time and greetings from Mexico
Thanks for talking about this Simon :)
