Synodic Scribe went over the idea that the current races are still capable of creation magic, just to a much lesser degree. Just like how myths and legends are created to help understand a world with limited knowledge, the magic system we know today is likely in the same boat (along with actual limitation of being sundered beings). We do this all the time in real life. We went from humoral theory to miasma theory to spontaneous generation to germ theory. From alchemy to chemistry. From newtonian gravity to general relativity. The Greeks used to think we shoot "lasers" (light) from our eyeballs to see, turns out its the other way around.
