Im so happy you showed the front jack point. I didnt want to accidentally jack on the skid plate or hit the oil pan. Its not easily identifiable when you are laying down trying to find it with a lowered car.
Another tip: if you don't have a ultra low profile jack to get it under the front (Especially if you're lowered or have a front lip) and don't have ramps available. You can use your spare tire jack on either side of the front pinch welds to give just enough clearance to slide the jack in. It's not a long term solution but it works if you need it.
I bought a nice big Napa jack and then needed to work on my car 5 hours away, so I bought a nice big Harbor Freight jack. The cheaper one jacked higher, so I used it until it stopped going up all of the way, so I started using the more expensive one--except it no longer goes down all of the way. When it doesn't I need to use the HF jack at a pinch weld to get my car high enough to use my Napa jack.
I was also taught to also put the wheel/tire under the vehicle while the car is jacked. You can always replace a wheel but you can never replace a human life.
ChrisFix said to keep the jack in place, use stands, and put down a spare tire as insurance. Yesterday my car fell off the stands and I am trying to find a jacking plate.
When your pinch welds rust out use the front lower control arm mount shaped like a triangle. In the rear should be 2 90° brackets that are sturdy enough.
I think the VA’s had more space where you could jack and then place the stands but now that I have a VB, there’s zero space to get the 2 under there and the same time
@@waybach that's the issue I had but I moved the jack to where I could fit the jack stand. The jack did come into contact with part of the sideskirt but it felt fine after I completed the job.
So I just jacked up one rear side, placed the stand under the pinch weld and lowered. When the pinch weld met the jack stand, the pinch weld literally folded like a taco.
@subispeed, that's where talking fast and editing comes into play lol, jk. It could be a special 2min Tuesday where it's longer. OR, have it "to be continued" and resume rest of video for Thursday. Good way to keep those views coming 👍
This is going to sounds really stupid, but my struggle is always with if I’m just jacking up one side. How am I supposed to put the jack stand on the pinch weld if that’s where the jack itself is lifting the car from?
I cringed when I saw that jack hit the rear diff. I always jack further in on the diff, avoiding the cover to not break/damage the seal. Am I just paranoid?

I was always looking for where to jack up the car from the front or rear. This videos are truly awesome. Thank you for all your hard work.
You're welcome! Glad we could help! Thank you for watching!
My children thought that they might help Dad fix his car. So, they helped him jack it up. I now have a new Killer B oil pan.
How do people jack up the wrx without ruining your pinch welds?

Can you show us how to change fog light bulbs for two minute tuesday?
You've got it John!
I was also taught to also put the wheel/tire under the vehicle while the car is jacked. You can always replace a wheel but you can never replace a human life.
As long as that's not the only means of support!
Just use a jack stand
yup used in conjunction with a jack stand as an insurance policy haha

@@drippingwax exactly when you have no control of when it can fail, best to use multiple forms of insurance to save yourself
If i use a jack on the side theres no space to put the jack stand.
Bro I'm not even lowered and I can't get to the front jack point WITH a low profile jack 🤦🏽♂️
It’s safe to use the rear diff for jack point?
When your pinch welds rust out use the front lower control arm mount shaped like a triangle. In the rear should be 2 90° brackets that are sturdy enough.
This is great if you can't fit a jack stand and the jack on the same corner due to the jack / stand geometry
So if you use the jack point on the pinch weld, where do you put the jack stand? Isn't it suppose to go where the jack point is located?
I think the VA’s had more space where you could jack and then place the stands but now that I have a VB, there’s zero space to get the 2 under there and the same time

Does this apply to the STI as well as far as the jacking point locations?

Thank You For This Video.
You're welcome!
next two min Tuesday how to properly rotate your tire.
Will add it to the list!
Have you guys been out to a track day since the first time and it broke?
Unfortunately, with everything going on around here we still haven't had time to look into the issue 😓
So I just jacked up one rear side, placed the stand under the pinch weld and lowered.
When the pinch weld met the jack stand, the pinch weld literally folded like a taco.
Wrong spot my guy
Really? The rear diff is a good place to jack the car up? That’s scary. Is that the standard place people use to jack up the rear end?
I always hear horror stories of people jacking up the front and actually putting it on the transmission pan. Any tips to mKe sure its the right spot?
Ive seen other videos where the car was jacked up on the center in between the pinch welds. Do you know the exact location of this?
We do not, as the jacking locations we covered in this video are the recommended ones from Subaru.
Does it matter where the jack makes contact with the rear diff? In the video the edge of the diff is in the middle of the jack pad
The rear most part of the diff but not the diff cover.
@@SubiSpeed thanks!
You forgot us guys with a lift like your's?!?
You guys know better!
Won’t jacking in the metal pinch weld warp or bent it?Unless you have some pinch weld adaptor.

I found out the hard way too, but thankfully I had the car sitting on jack stands, so i don't notice until I went to go try and take out the stands.
Lol didn’t learn anything
This isn't really related to the video but is there a website like subispeed but for the MX-5?
Not that we know of, sorry :(
This is going to sounds really stupid, but my struggle is always with if I’m just jacking up one side. How am I supposed to put the jack stand on the pinch weld if that’s where the jack itself is lifting the car from?
You place the jack just slightly forward or back so there is just enough room.
SubiSpeed thabks for the quick reply! Just to clarify, it doesn’t risk bending that lip on the frame by not putting it quite on the pinch weld?

I cringed when I saw that jack hit the rear diff. I always jack further in on the diff, avoiding the cover to not break/damage the seal. Am I just paranoid?
Maybe. I think it might be good to keep in mind but I've done it like him twice now and I don't think it's damaged anything (so far.)
yeesh old post but yea i was wondering the same thing. so in front of the flange where the cover is bolted on would be safe?
Super helpful. Well done.
Doesn't the metal jack stands damage the seam weld area?
Not if you carefully lower the car onto them. Just don't drop them on there carelessly.
Thannnnnnnk you.

You can use a “pinch weld jack attachment “ to avoid this kinda stuff. Lots of companies make and sell them for under $20
Or use a microfiber towel under
this is perfect.
You did it ❤️
