  • In this video, I talked about the amazing benefits of slippery elm for dogs! Slippery elm soothes inflammation and irritation in the digestive and respiratory tract. It serves as a demulcent which means it creates a protective film on the mucus membranes and has a beneficial effect on the microbiome.
    Ingredients: slippery elm capsules, water, honey
    Steps:
    1. Add Slippery Elm to 1 cup of cold water.
    2. Heat to a soft boil.
    3. Turn down the heat and stir for 4-6 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
    4. Add 1 TSP honey if desired for dogs. Do not add honey for cats (they do not taste the sweet flavor anyway and don't need the carbohydrates)
    5. Refrigerate the mixture for up to 5 days. FREEZE IN SERVINGS FOR UP TO 4 MONTHS.
    6. Give 1/4 tsp per 5 pounds.
    7. Freeze servings you will not use for up to 4 months.
    Slippery Elm Dosage for Dogs
    * Small dogs (less than 25 pounds): 1/2 to 1 TSP every 8 to 12 hours
    * Medium dogs (40-75 pounds): 2 TSP (10 ml) every 8 to 12 hours
    * Large dogs (75+ pounds): 2 TSP-2 TBSP (10 ml to 30 ml (1 ounce) every 8 to 12 hours or a 400 mg capsule twice daily.

    Hi, I purchased slippery elm powder and just noticed it says ‘slippery elm bark’ inner bark! Is this correct one for me to give my dog? She had colitis with blood. Vet gave her antibiotics and steroid injection 2 weeks ago. Feeding her boiled chicken breast rice. Thank you.

      I would cook the canine limited blend with a novel protein and make sure you use probiotics such as Visbiome.

      Hi, we recommend checking with your vet but you can consider using it for flare-ups.

    I followed the directions and my slippery elm never got to that consistency. Is there a brand you could recommend?

      @@HolisticVethi what if my puppy doesn't have constant diarrhea, just a very sensitive gut due to deworming and whipworm and antibiotics..she is in the process of changing kibble (50/50 with raw) and I cannot get a very solid stool, still pretty loose but not diarrhea. How would you recommend giving the slippery elm with my situation??
