This is hands down the nicest, lowest mileage 1985 300SD we have brought back to the shop. Holy grail car!
John, great find. Looking forward to seeing you get this one ready to sell. Love the color combo!
I actually already finished this car and the final walk around video will be posted on the website next week. There's already a nine part video series on the website. I'm just now publicly releasing the video series. People are putting deposits on cars right when I get them and unfortunately by the time the video series starts hitting UA-cam the cars are already sold.
Beautiful vehicle.
Yeah this is a very rare one!
@woodsandbarclay That 5 cylinder turbodiesel is bulletproof. Def a flagship from that era. Surprised to see their 300SDL with so many miles, most of those had failures due the redesign. The 350 SDL was garbage. The 380SL was a nightmare as well, never lived up to the 450SL. Proof in these two wonderful people that if you care for your vehicles, they will take care of you.
Yes you're right there's not many of the 300 SDLs left those engines just didn't last they had issues. However this 5 cylinder diesel is pretty much bulletproof.@@jeffreypinder9398
That's the same drive train as the 300d.
My 85 300d had 280,000 miles on it when I sold it in 05.
It ran like a top.
Yes that is correct. The SD and the D had the same exact drivetrain.
Never heard of a SDL before. Tks
The SDL was the long wheelbase that came out in 1986 and 87. Mercedes changed the engines to the 6 cylinder OM 603 diesel and it really doesn't have that great of a reputation compared to the earlier 5 cylinder diesels.
@@woodsandbarclay Tks for the additional information.
John this is Absolutely good deal i can't wait to see how this car will look After detailing
This is an older video I've actually already finished this car and will be posting the walkaround video next week. If you go to the website you can see the nine part video series and that includes the detailing video. The new owners coming to pick up the car January 6th
These are great people! Almost make a video listening to the stories.
😎👍
This baby is clean AF… dang
They still require tens of thousands of dollars to be spent to get them back up to outstanding condition. This is an unrestored original vehicle in amazing condition. But everything will need to be gone through. You can actually see the series on my website I've already released 10 videos on the car.
That's one funny owner...! great car as usual. One day, i'll be successful and buy from you, I promise!
Yeah Chuck was quite the character! Very funny.
I've got a blue/black '93 300D, but it has considerably more miles than 50k 😅
Well that's the beautiful thing about these cars, the engines just keep running for hundreds of thousands of miles!
I have a Sad beige Mercedes 300sd, for sad beige children.
Yes unfortunately beige is very unexciting color.
LoL... Funny mom,not beige at all LOL
Hey John, why do you like the 1983? I have a 1983 300SD
Well it has a much simpler vacuum system than the 1985 model. 1983 was a transition year so you have some stuff from the 82 model and some stuff from the 84 model. It's just a little simpler to work on than the '85 model but it also has the older style seat design and the 84 85 has an updated seat design. The transmission shifts better than the 82 model. It's just a good solid year for easy to work on yet good shifting transmission etc.
@ That’s cool. Thanks for letting me know, John
What’s better about the updated 84/85 seats?
If you take a look at the seats you will notice there's a different number of pleats. I think the 82 and 83 models have five pleats in the seats in the 84 and 85 models have six pleats. From my experience the earlier model car seats our little more structurally firm and hold up better over time.
