10:32 - Immy, you have purchased a Wild Rice Mix 😃 I thought I would just mention here a bit of helpful info. Wild Rice is often grown and harvested by First Nations people in the lakes and streams of Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan (🇨🇦). It is actually a type of grass (not rice) which is organically grown and harvested by hand in canoes using traditional methods. Wild Rice is incredibly nutritious and very versatile in cooking. It is often quite expensive simply because it matures slowly, and it is only available for harvest during the summer months in remote northern areas… and this is why it is often sold in a mix with traditional rice. I just thought I’d mention that if anybody is interested in supporting First Nations people/First Nations small business, and using organic and sustainably grown and harvested foods, then Wild Rice is a great staple to have in your pantry. Immy, if you see this comment, I want to share with you and others, that your Mom’s Mushroom Soup recipe is uber-delish with the addition of Wild Rice or a Wild Rice Mix (and, ofc… dumplings!!). Thanks for reading this, I hope it was helpful/interesting 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🇨🇦
I forgot to mention in my previous comment that Wild Rice is high in protein and low in fat which makes it a super-awesome addition to a plant-based diet (or any diet). Ⓜ️ary🌿🥣
If you're still looking into using "old bread" you should search some portuguese recipes, like rissóis, or açorda (which I'm sure can be made vegan, even though they aren't originally) since we use old bread and by-products in almost all of our traditional recipes. I mean, most of our Christmas sweets are made with days old bread 😄
I cut my old bread into cubes, dry them out in the oven at 180F for an hour or two, let them air dry for an additional day and then blend them up. There's 0 moisture that way and they blend up much finer and they won't (in my experience) go bad. I keep them in an air tight mason jar in the pantry and just keep refilling it as needed.
Absolutely adore your videos, currently catching up with some older ones I missed. Was so surprised to hear your comment in this one about not having achieved much this year. Just the other day, I was raving about you to my husband 😅 I showed him your insta and UA-cam, made him watch your recent videos and how incredibly well made, inspiring and thought provoking they are. And how I couldn't believe how talented you are - doing work that would take an entire team at a production studio. I think you should be incredibly proud of all you do, each thing that you produce is not only of the highest quality and so professional, but is also so inspiring and a force for good. Xx
Using masa Hadrian is super easy and you actually don’t need to let it rest. Usually we just add water and leave the salt to the fillings. My mother used to take fresh tortillas of the griddle sprinkle with salt and squeeze it into a straw shape and we would munch on that while we waited for our meal to be ready.
Life is interesting when we attempt to balance the see-saw of daily home-based routines with that of the spontaneity of travel. For me, when I travel I appreciate the predictability of my home-life, and when I am immersed in my home & work routines, I appreciate the freedom of travel. Thanks for sharing your garden update. I have been immersing myself in grow-your-own and allotment content recently, which is great to get an understanding from those super knowledgable. But I really appreciate coming along on your journey of discovery and helps me feel less overwhelmed by feeling like a total novice and keeping on top of the gardening tasks!

I absolutely love your videos! They are always so calming and just a real pleasure to watch. After your last years videos about the garden I really wanted to grow some vegetables myself. Turns out my boyfriends parents didn’t use their garden at all - now there are tomatoes, paprika, zucchini, pumpkin and all kind of things growing. I just love being there and watching “my” plants grow. Without your videos I maybe wouldn’t have done that, so please keep producing such wonderful content! ☺️
Isn’t it one of life’s most rewarding experiences to nurture and watch your own veggies grow? Im from Mexico live in New York USA now . tortillas with the store bought masa are good enough.. around me there is no way of getting fresh corn grind flour so I just use store bought masa . tip is to mix the flour with warm water and let it sit around so it can rehydrate. if they bubble up its done right . it takes a while to get the hang of it.
I just got back from a trip last week and I feel the same way and am also getting back into my zero waste routines. I need to get better at zero waste travel!

I don't think most people want to know where their food comes from. Sometimes when I try to tell people about animal products they get angry at me. I think people should stop being to ignorant
I eat meat (and do not feel well without, but buy brands with better animal welfare), but agree. People should at minimum be educated where things come from and approximately how the production goes on. And it could make some people take more responsible/ethical choices (but keep in mind poor people have few choices, and people also have different needs regarding their health). Avoiding knowing is just avoiding responsibility, and making people too distanced from nature as well
Im not vegan but I can tell. Its still exploiting animals, and actually causing some suffering and killing unless you own your own cow (eg. because bulls dont produce milk, you dont need many bulls to fertilize cows and most will probably be killed before even reaching adulthood because that's more profitable/resourceful). The calf gets separated from the mom which may be emotionally bad for them both. They still live in captivity and maybe have reduced well-being due to cramped space. Or not being bred for the best health but "performance" instead etc. Animal products take more resources and land to produce than plant food per calorie, and farmed cows are actually the worst animal there. Not saying you're not "allowed", but I think one should know about the life of the animal behind when consuming any kind of animal product, so then you cant take informed decisions. Not everyone does well on a vegan diet, I certainly did not, and I think whats needed for optimal health and overall well-being and energy in your everyday really is needed and not "wasted" if it takes some extra resources. But there are some animal products more ethical than others, that give their animals much better living standards during most of their life than the bare minimum (which tend to be very bad for farmed animals) I personally see no point in being vegetarian but not vegan if you have to buy the products, as opposed to keeping your own chickens/cattle/goats for milk/eggs. where you actually could avoid killing associated with it. Thats not gonna happen in commercial practice
@@zakosist Where I live Animal feed is not produced . It's the remaining feed after the harvest of the crops which is fed to cows. So I don't think it takes up much resources. There is animal harm in obtaining milk which I agree, but protein rich ingredients vegetarians don't have many options other than milk. Through milk processing there can be 100s of products. And animal harm is not always the case as my milk comes from my own farm. So I don't think there is no point in being vegetarian if it's not vegan
@@madarauchiha2584 I specified there is no point in being vegetarian but not vegan "if you have to BUY the products", not if you have your own farm. Chicken eggs (not the chicken itself) are vegetarian if not fertilized, but its subjective what each vegetarian allows in their diet (obviously not meat) You may be partially right about the protein thing (and maybe part of the reason I felt terrible with vegan diet, but I think there are multiple things combined). But plants have proteins and there are people on a fully vegan diet, some apparently thrive. Not everyone though. Its still harder to get enough proteins with only plants and some dont digest those proteins very well which makes that issue even worse. I have heard there is some difference between different ethnicities how well their body handles plant proteins, and those from scandinavia cant use it very well while people who come from tropical climates use it much better as they naturally have edible plants all year around, that makes sense. Since its generally not harmless to animals, thats the explanation why vegans dont consume milk. Vegans have about zero tolerance for using animals in a way that may harm or kill them. I personally dont think killing for food or using animals to some extent is wrong, but they shouldn't spend their life in misery
@@zakosist killing animals for food or any reason is utmost wrong. And egg is not vegetarian, how will you know beforehand if the egg is non-fertilized. It's a potential source of life , so it's non-vegetarian according to me.
