You'd think, but you can get quite a bit of biomass from alien life forms. My current save is from me idiotically rushing to coal without using plants at ALL for biomass. Just beast murder and handcrafting until powering up the assembler for Project Assembly with alien-derived biomass. Still yet to cut down a tree, and sti considering whether mycellium counts or not.
@@AnInnocuousBlueCube if i did my math correctly, one animal remain can give 111 MWh of power when using somersloops, but that would require to use machines since somersloops have no influence on handcrafting. Without them you will get only minor power from the remains but need thousands of MW for making endgame elevator parts. With only biogenerators, you also wouldn't be able to use power storages to alternate collecting and spending power for those powerhungry parts, but need it all at the same time. A more realistic set of rules to try first would be to use no fossil power (coal or oil) and no nuclear power (uranium, plutonium, etc), but only biogenerators (powered only by regenerating animal remains, and no foliage, trees or similar) and optionally with or without other "free" energy (geothermal and alien). btw : i once completed the game (up to the golden cup) in U8 with no oil generators and no nuclear generators, and only 3 rows of coal generators (3x8=24 generators), and using "a little" buffered power in a very tall (beyond the permanent fog layer) tower with 100 floors of 10x10 power storages per floor, for a total of 100x10x10x100 MWh = 1 TWh :-)
You can put tons of miners near a container with a belt coming to your main storage so you can just move the ore from the miners to the container next to it and then ore makes its way to your storage. You should be able to cut down on a lot of trips back and forth that way. Utilizing dimensional depots can allow you to craft without having the items in your inventory. You could set up a container next to the work bench along with smart splitters to dump everything into their appropriate bins so you don't need to move around at all except for collecting from miners If you're actually going to do this, every little time save will add up Also, as others pointed out, lizard doggos are OP - they can gift turbo motors, fused modular frames, biofuel, high speed connectors, and more useful and high effort products. Technically they can completely replace oil refining since they can give plastic and rubber too.
lol This actually sounds like a really fun challenge and an interesting way to play the game if you got enough people together to make it productive enough. I just joined the Discord and I'd love to help out and see this challenge continue!
I been wondering for a while if humans were capable of this (completing satisfactory without factories). I respect it and I think the way you make it more nuanced is to tell a story of how this took a toll on you mental and more of the grind rather than; then i did this, then i did that

took me just shy of 300 hours to finish my regular 1.0 playthrough with almost 150 hours just for the last phase (and setting up power) ... this is insane, just the 1000 nuclear pasta you'll need will make you go mad, let alone the particle accelerator required and their power requirement. If you finish that playthrough, you deserve all the gold

Yeah, it's pretty powerful and the geysers around the map produce a significant amount of power if you tap them all. I wanted to skip coal power and oil but not miss out on the actual gameplay so I included them
@@wertacus i did a "minimum" coal power (3x8=24 generators) run up to the golden mug in U8, using no oil based power, no nuclear power, and only very few geothermal. My current game (currently paused for something else) is at phase 5 with all milestones up to phase 4 done, having used only 8 coal generators, touched no oil at all, and used only a single refinery to make liquid biofuel for my jetpack :-) Maybe I'll do a "absolutlely no fossil or nuclear power" run sometime, using only biogenerators with regenerating animal remains, and other "free" power (geothermal and alien)
I think it's a cool idea, but I wonder how much you'll actually be crafting in the later steps, given that many recipes require liquids or gasses toward the end, very curious to see either way
I've been thinking about how it would go to do a playthrough with a one-machine-per-recipe limit. A minimum-factory run would definitely take way more patience than i have.
I want to see you hand craft copper powder for nuclear pasta in phase 4 and 5 lol. 1 nuclear Pasta needs 200 copper powder. That is 600 copper ingots or Ore. For the 1100 required nuclear pasta to beat the game you would need 660 thousand copper ore then. And that is ignoring everything else required to make the fused modular frames which you need 1100 of as the second ingredient for nuclear pasta. I would love to watch you do it though. I wonder how many thousand hours this might take. Definitely consider running more instances of Satisfactory on your computer using Gefore Now or something
I can't imagine making a single nuclear pasta let alone the amount needed, just trying to keep a particle accelerator going using biofuel is going to be hard enough.

harvesting the crash sites for usable parts would probably cut out a good portion of crafting and provide some enjoyable content as you try to survive getting to them... taming bunch of lizard doggos can result in nice gains that over multiple hours should probably provide more stuff than what you wasted time on getting them... also on a side note im assuming while not a factory thing kinda... Awesome sink and the awesome store combination is prohibited? cause you could pretty quickly trivialize unlocking bunch of stuff by buying the required parts with the tickets that you can easily get from sinking alien DNA
Is it a real question if it is possible to beat the game with this ruleset, or is the answer clearly a yes and it is only a question of time? So is there a possibility that you do this for months an come to a point in phase 7 or so and can't finish the Challenge?
Great news, there is no phase 7. I have all the rules listed in the video and work arounds for items that do require factories. I can do it. Just going to take a long time.

you might want to add the same for wood and most importantly for animal remains, and an additional refinery for liquid biofuel. with a few somersloops (max 10 total, or only 3 when manually changing recipes all the time) that setup can make tons of power (i calculated 111 MWh per animal remain)
@@Hanmacx ok, thus you are manually switching the recipe between leaves and wood (and mycelium) on the same machine ... with the mycelium, i am not so sure whether it is better used for biomass, or rather for other purposes like inhalers and filters (if you have no refinery for the alt recipe). and i think that (at least when using somersloops) animal remains are the best because they give an insane yield of biomass per protein, as well es doubling the result 4 times for the four steps, and thus a total of 16x as much power from a single remain. And in contrast to mycelium, foliage and wood, they are unlimited anyway.
I mean, only a miner mk1 or mk2 isnt a factory, without cheating, using 10 somersloops to have power without factories, and sending the ressources into dimensional depots, would reduce a lot the time going back and forth, and wouldn't be cheating in you case, just using the tools the game gives you.

Yes, but no. A normal is giving me 2 but a pure gives 3. Even at that, crafting by hand is better for a normal than a pure because of how similar the input to output is. If I was on a pure, then I would end up having a lot more ore than ingots and wouldn't be able to let it AFK itself. But using a portable miner would be better for pure, but my hands still wouldn't nearly be fast enough.

Could have used cheat engine and had it run the speed hack to run the game at double speed and cut your literal time in half but functionally in game it will be thinking you've spent the full amount of time.

dimensional depots may improve on your QoL a little here, i think.

Smart plates don't spawn at crash sites. Like every other space elevator part they must be crafted in a machine
