    this guy was my idol when I was in college choir. I remember the day I showed up, going through vocal warmups to test my range.. never thought people were supposed to applaud when I finally bottomed out. *shrugs*
    Needless to say, I was a freshman coming in to an established choir and ended being their deepest bass

    • @Jourell1
      @Jourell1 10 років тому +1

      He goes pretty low. In fact I heard that he first got into Tennessee Ernie Ford (the original singer of 16 tons) because Ford was one of the few singers with a voice low enough for him to sing along with comfortably.

    He just hit C# above middle C in the end of this song. I think his vocal range is the typical low bass. (basso profondo) But the color of his voice, well that's just monstrous! Makes his voice sound even lower. Very cool. I would like to know some low basses. That kind of sound is so exhilirating. I would immediately set up an acappella group.

    Brilliant, amusing version! Sung by us kids on the bush mine where I grew up in Tanzania. Our "theme", the words true in Geita. Some Muzungu men gave half their pay-packets to the club barman, the other half to the Indian shopkeeper, saying "tell me when it's finished." Real meaning to the words "I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go!" My book's about that place, those crazy years. I'm going back first time in 44 years. I'll sing 16 Tons again, at the overgrown mineshaft mouth. And remember...

    God, I miss Barry Carl being in Rockapella. It's a shame he had to go, but I'm certain he had his reasons. At least he's not letting his talent go to waste; he teaches and things now, so more are learning to do what he does.

    Wow what an amazingly cool and unique voice Barry was giving by our Dear Lord. I don't know were to begin to complement Mr. Carl here, such a fantastic version to begin with. But of course the other guys complemented him so well, you can't forget them ether. But who in the world is the curly red haired dude on the far left, I don't remember him being on Carmon Sandiego?

    • @Jourell1
      @Jourell1 10 років тому

      That's Jeff Thatcher, a vocal percussionist (similar to beaboxing). According to wiki he joined the group in 1993 (during their tenure on Carmen) but only appeared on the show with them during the last season. Actually he does a pretty amazing demonstration of it when the group sang the theme song during this performance.
