Just to point out that I have switched to an oil lubricant and it is even better. Also the blue loctite is a must so you can fine tune the tension of the bolts.
I take all my knives apart almost as soon as I get them and repeat every few months or so... I find it amazing to see a knife after 6-7 years of never being taken apart for maintenance. Amazing video!
I have been carrying the same PM2 for over six years as well, I have lots of other blades but I always come back to her, she is as comfortable as a broken-in pair of boots.
Thank you. Oh yes I agree they are tools after all. I take care of them but use them as they were intended. Plus yes the patina effect 😊 When I will the video for the sebenza, the titanium scales are very interesting how they 'age'.
@@ultimateequipment23 Im carring right now bm 551-1 / 940bk after i killed my griptilian. I had 2 pm2s, first time was camo with satin blade. I sold it because the camo was color not for me :p and second time i had blurple version in s110v and in my opinion these steel was not worth it. I sold it to. Maybe in future i will try again this knife with black handle and satin/black blade.
@@kfach123 Nice man. Yeah I think for the camo I would go with a black dlc blade and a black digital camo. I saw it once on a custom website that did it for the scales. I think my next pm2 would be the m390 dlc and maybe some carbon fiber scales or those custom scales. Aha I see with the s110v. Hard to sharp or? Good luck with your new future toys 😊
@@ultimateequipment23 Well s110v is very different steel. Sharpening requries extreme consistency. I checked hardness in my para2 and it was 58.7hrc, little to low. It holded shaving edge worse than 20cv in my grip, maybe working edge is forever in this knife, but working edge means dull for me.
@@kfach123 I see what you mean. Yeah. By the way? I have the Spyderco Sharpmaker with the 2 stock stones. Will it be enough to sharpen the cpm 20cv from the hinderer xm24? Never tried it before and the 20cv is superior to the s30v so wanted to double check.
Lol that's funny, I also got that exact same version as my first expensive knife and also after months of research. I also still have it and I love it. That DLC is an amazing coating. You just can't hurt it.
I got one of them when they first came out.I had planned on getting a second I liked it so much. But after like 10 years or so it’s still going strong. The only thing that has wore on it is the detent..However it’s still fine.I always get a nice knife and usually get about 5 years out of it before the blade is wore out.But the working edge lasts so long that it’s still good.. I really don’t understand why people think it’s so large. It feels light,(especially to the stuff I grew up with).Anyway it’s a classic.
Thanks for sharing! I know, it's a home run. I have yet to try the PM3 but I use my PM2 everyday since I keep it in the kitchen to prep my food. Just because I enjoy using it so much. I have small kitchen so I was like, I already have quality knives, I don't need kitchen ones. Especially give the PM2's blqlade geometry which is prfect for slicing.
Just won a used pink scaled, PM2 off eBay. I had one years ago but lost it in the Apple River in WI while tubing, drunk. Anyway, can't wait till the pink one shows up. My daily carry is the Police 3 plain edge, stainless steel handle. Love that sucker!
I've been using mine since january 2015 daily for work cutting plastic, tape and cardboard. I use a 20 degree angle and a lansky system to sharpen my knife once a week. I often bang up my edge on metal carts and such and I've redone the edge from scratch four or five times. The first few millimeters of the tip are broken off. There's a torx bit head snapped off in one of the clip bolts. The middle support bar is gone. The lanyard peg thing never goes in the same way once you remove it improperly. I love it though. The DLC Coating is still working great also
Love it when they are used to their fullest. 😁 Mine now is my ..food prep knife for quick usage, so manh times at work I need a one hand deployment. PM2 to the rescue 😅
Perfect EDC folder? Maybe with bigger hands and pockets than mine. Luckily, Spyderco totally solved my issue by creating the Para 3, which is handily my favorite-ever pocketknife. I do have a PM2 in Maxamet, and it’s a great knife, but my Para 3s see enormously more use and carry because they seem just custom tailored to my exact needs and preferences.
@@ultimateequipment23 Try a Para 3, I think they’re an even more amazing piece than the PM2 and I would even if they were the same size. The only thing about the Para 3 is the lanyard hole placement makes a deep carry clip almost completely necessary (for me, they are anyway, but not everyone’s that way). Some people with real big hands say the compression lock bar bites their palm, but no one with L or XL glove sized hands that I’ve handed one of mine to has noticed it.
It has the standard side by side but I haven't noticed if it got worse, feels the same since I got it new. It's not a Sebenza nor a Hinderer 😁 But the vertical play is non existent, rock solid. The compresion lock does a perfect job here.
@@ultimateequipment23 I do have a Cold Steel large voyager and it's rock solid, no blade play at all. It's pretty scary knife because the lock and the detent is so strong 😄definitely not a fidget toy.
Ah yes. I forgot to do it in this video. If you check my latest ones where it appears as a quick comparison, you will see it tip up and with a lanyard :)
I like them both the same. My new favourite is my new XM24. I alternate daily between the PM2 and the Sebenza and XM24 but mostly the first 2 since are better and easier to carry in the pocket. With the XM24 I feel like I am going into battle 😁
Just to point out that I have switched to an oil lubricant and it is even better. Also the blue loctite is a must so you can fine tune the tension of the bolts.
He cleans his knife with his knife! Very cool. Thank you for this video. I was looking to see the durability of DLC and it looks to be excellent.
Thank you!
Oh yes that's how I roll 😁
I am still suprised with the DLC myself. The stuff I do with it at work and it's still there. So happy with it.
You don't have a knife cleaning knife?

Me too. Love that thing. I also have lots of other knives that I could carry, but I just love the PM2.
Im loving to see used knife in times when people collect knives and dont use it! Best regarda from Poland!

Enjoy your new PM2! I used to have a Police as well. Spyderco has such a cool collection.
A true classic! Nice vid
Most definitely! Thank you 👍
Great video!
What did you do? Never sharpen it? The base of the edge looks untouched
I did many times. I'll take that as a compliment of my free hand sharpening on the sharpmaker 😁
Hello, do you refresh the black paint on the blade or the coating is just that wear resistant?
Nothing for it. It'a called DLC and it's amazing. Scratch resistent. The only way to take that off is to put the blade on the angle grinder 😆
DLC stands for Diamond Like Carbon, it is not paint, it is bonded to the blade.
True, I phrased it wrong at that time.
Awesome video..can I ask you what you use to sharpen it…your edge still looks factory parameters dlc to edge…very interested? 👍
Thank you. Sure, the spyderco sharpmaker 👍

How do you clean the scuffs that look like scratches off these blades safely??
Wd40 works for me sometimes. It depends on how well the residue sticks.
They make it now in S45VN. That's the one I'm getting.
I know! 👍 Enjoy it when yoh get it Eric.
Is it ok if i will use vaseline insted of lubrikant? Or what else i should use
Yeah, it will work just fine if that's all you have on hand. Then any mineral oil or bike chain oil.
@@ultimateequipment23 i have a lot of bike chain oil 😂, so i will use it. Thank you, great video!

Excellent 🤗 What blade steels?
@@ultimateequipment23 s110v and s30v i have 11 🕷 knives
Very cool. Oho, respect Rob ! 👍👍
have you ever sharpened that knife?
Hi Tom. Yes, like once a year. It's due very soon and plan do to a quick video on the sharpmaker.
Flashes the Sebenza on the low... flex
😎😅
Where is that in the last shot?
Also great video and review! 6 years later...wow.
Meadfoot beach, Torquay, UK. 👍
Thanks Mike!
How do you clean your knife? With the knife.
Best way 😁
Hahaha that blade looks brand new....
I have a spyderco with about 10 years hard use on it.......it used to be serrated now its a plain edge lol
Nice one 😆
Hey man what do you use to oil your blade? And how often do you do it?
Oil the blade, not that much, I clean it from time to time with WD40. I would oil it if I would put it in storage for longer perioads.
Is it bulky in the pocket?
Not in my experience, no. Even in jeans.
What sharpening system do you use?
The Spyderco Sharpmaker. Will do a video soon 👍 amzn.to/3hOPLNM
S45 vs s30?
From my knowledge, it appears that the S45VN is an upgrade in every spec versus the S30V. Would get an S45VN to try it out myself.
Any blade play after all that time?

Why not ??? I only carry tip down, if the knife opens in your pocket you can still draw it. Try that with tip up carry....
