Start using Reference tracks more and analize whats going on , using the Sends more, separate Sub +Bass channel, more tuning the EQ on different channels shaping the sound, take away stuff, dont need. Using the Mono utility. Lots of things to try. Great Stuff
Brilliant tips! Using a reference track is always one of the best tips as well as using a soft clipper. I'd love to see a video on how to make a track like Neelix or Interactive Noise!
That softclipper is perfect! Just got my hands on it, really love the auto gain function here. Sadly FL stock softclipper doesn't have good features. This one is perfect! Thanks alot for these tips, really valuable stuff here 🙏 Also Gustav is doing a very good job infront of the camera 🫰
im using sennheiser hd25. SoundID + Mixing in Mono + Referencing (which influences sample selection) And I can already feel the quality increase in my work. Feeling the urge to remix and remaster a lot of old tracks
I totally agree with reference tracks. One tweak I would make is rather than putting the track directly in the DAW I now use Metric AB by ADAPTR which also replaces span and youlean. It's expensive for a plugin but it has improved my workflow significantly.
Game changer! Plus you can easily isolate the mid and sides where all the mud happens! I’ve found with all this cleaned up I can smash my mix into a MS compressor and get a real sense of depth finally!
I felt the same way when I got Sonarworks. Such an improvement in my mixes as well as translating better. Currently I now use Sonarworks on my monitors and Slate Digital VSX and Realphones on my headphones which have also been game changers for my mixes.

Thanks for the Vid EDM Tips, would you in the future be able to Time Stamp you video for easier browsing through sections? Thank you for everything you do!
15:19 mono check DOES NOT take away the stereo field, it should COLLAPSE it into mono. Some sound elements (at least when I make beats) are ONLY in the mono field or stereo field. Taking away either does nothing to check mono “compatibility, it just tells you what’s in the other field.
If you use the VST2 version of SPAN, you can send your reference track to the same instance of SPAN as your output and see the two tracks overlaid on each other. Sadly doesn't work in the VST3 version.
Loved this! ... Well explained and presented by Gustaf. A few in there that should prove useful, especially the soft clipper tip and the send FXs. Can we have a video about LUFs and how to use YouLean. I struggle to get the LUFs to settle around -14 (streaming platforms) without the Max Peak going well over -1db. Help!
Will You have been my best teacher ever. Please please please make a thorough video about all forms of transitions which is my only weak point. I really have problems connecting parts of my music
I’ve noticed, in your accelerator course and this tutorial, there is an emphasis on mono compatibility, but not much info on how to fix mono incompatibility in a mix. Hopefully you can make a video on this at some point.
Thank you, just one problem to me: sonarworks and his preset for my headphone Beyerdynamics 1990 pro… it sounds terrible and to low in terms of volume. I have an external soundcard, the apogee one, volume settings are at maximum level. How could i solve? Thanks
Which of these tips are you going to try? Let me know! 👇

The seperate bass
Damn you Gustaf!!! I had just finished my first mix in a year (actually finished) and now I'm away back to try some of these. lol. :D
All, because they are all important
Gustaf knows his stuff! Great episode, guys. thx
For sure!!
Great to see that y'all like my tips in this video! Let me know which one I've missed here 👇🔊
gracias bro!
aplicare todo!
Sick song. Which one is it? Is it released?

Thanks for the suggestions, Silverfox, we'll add them to the list :)

Thank you, Motry, we both appreciate the feedback!
Glad you liked it and enjoy the soft clipper too :)
Love seeing the EDM Tips family grow. Thanks for the helpful tips Gustav!
hell yeah! Thanks for the kind words of support, we truly appreciate them! 🙌🏻

Thanks a million Will and Gustaf 🔥🤘🏻
You're very welcome, Kelly! :)
I like this. It's short little things that you might not know you need to consider. Thanks for the info Gustaf & Will

The same for me
Actually it's on sale now from Plugin Alliance for 40 bucks instead of 300. Well worth the investment.

Awesome work Gustaf! 🙌🏽
Agreed!
You can side chain your reference track on span so both appear on the same span instead of having 2 spans open
Great tip! Thanks for sharing :)
Great vid as usual , never thought of the overdrive on returns , I’ll look at thanks , very clear , thanks to you both 🙏🙏🙏
You're welcome, Micky, and I am glad you found it helpful! 🙂
esto es increible gracias por los videos que subes bro!

Stoked to hear that! I've heard good things about Slate Digital VSX but I am yet to check out Realphones

Hell yeah, Carl! 🙌🏻
Stunning!
Great, thanks! 😎
You’re welcome! Glad you found this helpful 🙂
Nice job!
Reference track is the most important part for sure - without it you’re trying to paint a portrait from memory 🙏🏻🤛🏻
Thanks for the mono switch tip didn’t know that one
You're welcome, Haylee, hope you'll use it too :)

Semantics, but true enough - he meant sum rather than remove
@@EDMTips it’s absolutely not semantics. They mean two completely different things.

Should your sub bass be in a lower octave than your mid bass?
I’ve noticed, in your accelerator course and this tutorial, there is an emphasis on mono compatibility, but not much info on how to fix mono incompatibility in a mix. Hopefully you can make a video on this at some point.
We do go into that in the Accelerator 🤔 Could you email me about it and I'll send you the link to the lesson?
@EDMTips something free also for us? I struggle a lot on that, stereo sounds good, mono 💩😭😭

How weird I was in my feed about to click on your video I was suggested and got a notification of a new video.
Spooky! 👻
Can you dissect a tape b track? His bass is very distinctive from other dj’s
Gustaf, that shirt is cool, where did you get it?
Top secret 😎

hi there i am trying to find that return overdrive stock plugins it seems that i dont have it there is only regular overdrive please help
I can't seem to find it either. Weird....
He's using the Pedal plugin. He just renamed it. A bit confusing tbh.
@@eliosix really helped this cheers
@@eliosix thanks!
Will, do you offer 1on1 mixing sessions? I’d love to get a session with you!
Great question! The only coaching I now do is in the Accelerator so join the family :)
Having a group reverb wont work if each synth being bussed has different note lengths. As the decay on the reverb would a different value
I can’t find return overdrive
Why turn down the reference to -12 rather than -6?
Because the average volume of the reference is much louder (because it’s been mastered)
Does mastering typically boost by 12db? Sounds a lot! I read the general rule is to leave 3-6db for the mastering engineer
