I’ve had the Bushnell Pro X3 and just recently purchased the Z82. I could never use another rangefinder. The amount of information is incredible. Great review sir!
Just got my Z82 last week. Used it once and I love the gps features and the additional data you get that normally you don’t from traditional Range finders. As a high handicap player it gave me a bit of more confidence knowing all that additional data about the hole.
I’ve had mine for a few years and love it. Make sure and keep the software updated though. It’s great having all this info in a rangefinder so I can leave my phone in my bag. Don’t see the delay in waking as an issue at all. As soon as I take it out of my bag I put my thumb on the bottom to wake it up. By the time I get to my ball and raise it to my face it’s on. I was hoping for a new version, but very happy with this one.
Great review, Mark. My employer has a system that lets us redeem credits for Garmin devices and I just "purchased" one through them (it's technically free for me). Giving you a shout so your Garmin rep can add at least one sale to your link data.
I have the subscription so I can get the green contour mapping which appears after you hit the flag. The mapping also rotates so if you shot the flag from the side the slope mapping has rotated to give you the slope from that side. The gps coloured dots give you the layup distance to 200, 150 & 100 layup options. The case is rubbish but you can get the Z80 case cheap and it fits. No magnet in that case and none on the device.
Thanks for the awesome review on the Garmin Z82! Super cool to see all those advanced features and its accuracy in action. Pricey, but the combo of GPS and rangefinder seems worth it. The non-removable battery and carry case issues are good heads-up, but overall, you've piqued my interest in the Z82 even more!
Good review. I don’t think you should ever pack your rangefinder in your checked golf bag/luggage. Golf bags are the #1 most vandalized pieces of luggage. I’ve learned lessons the hard way: gps packed and stolen, rangefinder packed and stolen, driver head unscrewed from my shaft and stolen. Prov1s from my ball pocket stolen, premium head covers stolen.
I use the Garmin epix 2 watch for GPS and my bushnell laser while playing. That combination works great. I’m a big Garmin fan but I doubt I’d ever get this device since I’ve already got the watch.
Please tell me you played those Half Moon Bay courses! Great tracks… Interesting device. It’s kind of amazing how technology has really come on!!! Great review Mark! Kind of crazy how it factors the environment along with all the other features…
Every Garmin product is good but this is a beauty ,The first 5-6 rounds is a learning curve but if you prioritise the z82 it's a wow . My only problem is that the latest Garmin golf watch is brilliant too and creates a conflict but my way is 150 meters ,out with the z82.. range find then green view .
I considered replacing my range finder with this or the Voice Caddie SL3 as an xmas gift for myself, in the end I couldn't justify the price and went for the Skycaddie SX400 as I already have a Precision Pro range finder which is perfectly fine.
I love the map and the pinpointer feature of Z82. Really useful especially if you like to try new courses as you aren't familiar. Question: When it accounts for wind, the yardage is the final yardage including wind or no?
The one problem I have with mine is on 2 of the courses I play on a few holes it would read front 120 center 136 back 148 but show the pin at 151. I wish there was a way to update courses myself.
I also had one and sold it on eBay. It was very slow to grab the pin and boot up time was quite long. I was disappointed with the quality and I'm waiting for a new version to come out.
Really like this range finder but it does get annoying having to charge the battery all the time, it's easy to forget to charge it, where other range finders you just swap out a battery and they last forever
Now all we need is for it to link by bluetooth to a pair of augmented reality glasses to display everything without squinting through a small peephole. Oh - and incorporate a launch monitor so you have a shot tracer / tracker flash up when you’ve hit it….!
The reason you have an issue with foggy conditions is because the laser range finder detects the range by the sparkle the laser creates when it hits the target. In foggy conditions, this is an issue since the laser can disperse through the moisture in the air and not your target. What is nice is that you have a GPS embedded which weather does not affect.
How can I make my Z82 connect to my cell phone, the Garmin Golf App? I have tried, I have the Bluetooth connected, I click link and nothing, sometimes the app tells me when I try to link it to put in the app the numbers that will appear on the Z82 screen but nothing comes up, how can you help me?
I have the Z82. I like the features, but the screen resolution I found quite poor, and the image is grainy and not like the perfect simulated pictures shown. Going from the crystal clear optics of a normal rangefinder to one that uses a camera and display is noticeable. Case is terrible.
That garmin is excellent. My only observation not just with this one but others. Why not just leave slope and wind features of it in the first place given they can’t be active in competition play. Surely that would make them a little less expensive
I have the Z80, don’t actually use it that much. I wear specs and find it awkward to pick up the flag. Also found it to be slow at responding and does not hold charge particularly well. Same issue for the carry case. I don’t use it and just put it into one of the side pockets in my bag. Typically find it simpler to play to the front middle and back yardages on courses I play regularly. The GPS and green view feature is very useful on new or less familiar courses. But generally I find using a lazer a bit of a faff compared to watch, Shot Scope or other.
We love our Z82's. Bought a Used Z80 version and sold it within 2 weeks. The Z82 is MUCH clearer and better at hitting the flag. AVOID the Z80. Also it's like 3 years old. - The battery lasts about 3 18-hole rounds for me. - I wish it had a USB C charger. - The case sucks, a non golfer designed that.... I put it into an old clamshell Bushnell Rangefinder Case for easy removal. - I wish it had a magnetic side like the new Bushnell's. I have a cheap aftermarket strap and that makes it NOT fit the Garmin case. Yes, I realize it's a 3 year old product...
Most of the players using a GPS should keep the $$$ to take lessons from a pro. 100 yards left and they often are 25 yards short 😂😂. These devices are very useful only if you know and can hit the exact distance of each one of your clubs.
Even though the cables and connectors can break, I do have working cables already. It's the female connector that isn't reliable. I am tired of resoldering those. Also, it's 2024
that carry case/bag is awful, premium product placed in such a poor bag/case that doesn't even look waterproof. the product itself is first class which you pretty much expect from garmin
Magnet messes up the pin seeker function. I had a hat with a magnet that made it show wrong direction for the pin. If you don’t use that function, not a big deal. I rarely do.
Old and outdated technology that needs an update - faster, better display and less battery drain in a more compact size with image stabilizer - there is so much missing in this gadget it’s old stuff and as always farming is a slow company to innovate……
Do not buy this !!! I already had two of them. Both stopped working after 2 years and 2 month and Garmin will not repair or exchange the device !!! Extremely disappointed with this and with Garmin !!
This is garbage. It’s slow and when it goes into sleep mode it takes forever to get back up and ready to go. The GPS works less than 50% of the time. The pin seeker mode is garbage, takes forever to give the yardage. Sometimes this guy is drunk

Ive had it for 2yrs and love it. All my friends grab mine before getting their Bushnells.

Just got mine delivered
Will be testing him tomorrow on the course 🎉
I got this for my birthday about 3 years ago. Love it.

Don’t forget bough every year you have to pay to use sky caddie
Does it work in foggy conditions?
Totally agree with casing I roll back the cover😎👍🏻

Great review Mark..One thing it does not have a magnet on it to place on the golf cart yes or no....
The case does yes.
Wow. This looks like a great product.
I’ve got the predecessor. Great but takes a minute or two o fire up. Can feel like an age when you’re playing first.
I find it a little slow to shoot the flag, but I wouldn’t trade it for any other range finder. So great for new courses
Really like this range finder but it does get annoying having to charge the battery all the time, it's easy to forget to charge it, where other range finders you just swap out a battery and they last forever
Hasn’t this product been out for some time already?
Liked the video Mark
Should I buy z82 range finder or s62 golf watch
Would you get this range finder even if you are using Arccos or something else?
Ummmm, good question. Maybe not. If you already have gps.
Now all we need is for it to link by bluetooth to a pair of augmented reality glasses to display everything without squinting through a small peephole. Oh - and incorporate a launch monitor so you have a shot tracer / tracker flash up when you’ve hit it….!
Just saw the price😬
I sold the device again after 2 weeks. I had a lot of problems finding the flags on the digital display. especially when it is slightly foggy outside
That’s amazing. I thought the lock on system was amazing.
@@MarkCrossfield maybe I bought a, we say in Germany, Monday production. Maybe I'll buy the Z82 again.

@@alpotraz5042 that may be, but for this price I expect a reliable laser that works well in all weathers.

No magnetic to attach to the cart😡
Can it also hit the ball? then i can sit at hole 19 drinken a beer while playing a good game 😂
What do you mean 3d world!? I thought the world was flat!? :D
😂
Rechargeable battery is a hard no. Imagine trying to open this thing in 4 years to change out the proprietary battery. No thanks for €650

Micro USB just like the R10. I won't get any device until Garmin adopts USB-C
Very odd take when they literally give you the cable with the device🤔😂

I got a real case on Amazon and also purchased a cover a magnet. Works great
