Damn, that pop off from Dabuz was even better than I remember.
It was great during Grands that all hope seemed to be lost for Coney wanting Dabuz to win after the reset, but he pulled it off.
I think the leg on chair and hand shake made it even better as we know he didn’t do that on purpose lol but it so funny.

I'm a huge Riddles fan and I think it would've been awesome for Riddles to win the FGC tournament before he switches his focus to SF6 but at the same time Dabuz earned and deserved it. Especially beating Riddles too, someone he has a losing record against. Massive respect to Dabuz
Also not all our money is loonies and toonies. Just the coin with a loon on it and the coin that's worth 2 loons (two + loonies = toonies)
The random music is REALLY jarring, but Coney's great as always
Is there a reason the stream audio wasnt there this time? The video just feels empty with only commentary and none of the usual background from the game and casters. The casters in the background especially helped keep the sense of hype and tension of the match and this low random background music didnt do that at all. Everything just felt anticlimactic. Overall bad editing choice if done intentionally and should go back to how coneys highlights were done before.

Coney’s primarily had 2 editors for FOREVER, FriendAlias and Quinn. Looks like he hired a third one, Kelkador, for this video and the Dumb Drivers 2 one. Kelkador’s a good editor but I do agree he made some style decisions that are very abnormal for this channel. Idk if Coney wanted those decisions or if he even really cares, but either way if Kelkador sticks around I’m guessing it’s gonna take him a bit to learn how to match Quinn and Alias’ style
Fun fact about the Canadian Flag, they type of maple leaf is called a sugar maple, but the leaf you see on our money is a Norway maple, which is not native to Canada

I should rlly start watching these kinds of events on my own but it's so much easier to just get the digestable 30 minute highlight reel with coney reaction/commentary!
This was my first time watching a Coney top 8 live and I can tell you, it's worth it and a good time
10:39 Street Fighter 6 is doing 2/3 sets just because it's a new game. A lot of other arcade fighters have to essentially have a trial period to see how the meta and match lengths play out. Right now matches are fast, but when competitive players start to completely ease into their playstyles then they might start having longer matches.
I don't think that'll happen, but it would suck for people to play 3/5 then get less games rather than work our way to an additional 1 or 2 games. Look at Dragonball Fighterz. Those early matches weren't so bad. But, then TODs became less common and pros learned how to keep their teams alive. Now 2/3 seems like too much sometimes.
some games like bbtag definitely suffered hard from this. as the game went on people found TODs with basically every single character in the entire game so an unlucky happy birthday counter hit will end a game from start in under 20 seconds and happens somewhat often. and everyone ran best 2 of 3 sets for the entire games life until it pretty much died so sets could end within a minute of picking up your controller if you werent careful

Having been in the crowd during Ult top 8, the highlight was definitely HonzoGonzo's pleads for help.

God can you imagine how incredibly sick Kazuya would be if he didn't have so many airtight combos? Like if for each of the hits he was making an actual prediction? Cuz sometimes it happens when the combo isn't tight enough and it's fucking magical like against that Samus, but he's so consistently overtuned that it doesn't really show up much

11:04 this point about Steve Dair is so good, I never really thought about it in that way but it’s basically bowser down b, with not only essentially NO LAG, it also doesn’t even lock your landing in place, Steve can just decide he doesn’t want to commit to the spot he used it and just go do something else. Completely insane

Well... it does have some weaknesses that Bowser down B doesn't have. It takes up resources, can be clanked with, and is very weak if Steve decides to not commit.

@@staticchimera44I think the only reasonable complaint here (imo) is the clanking thing, that’s kinda weird. The resources is just a character thing, that would be like Olimar going “yeah but I need pikmin for my moves” that’s just the character. And with basically every character besides Steve, if you decide to cancel your move you don’t get a fucking hitbox AT ALL. If you can decide to not commit, you should be happy you get anything (imo). I play ken, and how fucked would it be if I when I canceled focus the fucking move still came out at level 1?
@@hunbi1875 Steve is very limited on resources in many top level matches, knowledge on how to deplete Steve's resources is one of the most important parts of Steve counterplay.

Opinion from a random fan who might be alone here: I don't really like this editing compared to the kind of editing we got out of older top 8 highlight videos we would get from you. The music replacing game/tournament stream volume (except for the player walk-outs preceding the set) is kinda weird and doesn't feel as authentic as the alternative, which is just using the regular stream sound and going with it. The editing in the older videos in this series, such as the LMBM one from half a year ago, is probably my favorite video of yours since it's hilarious hearing you talk over the stream with your own gags, jokes, and reactions to the gameplay. The video game music replacing the actual audio just doesn't make the video as enjoyable, at least for me. It's like I am no longer experiencing a Coney video, I'm experiencing your average smash content creator's video. I could be overreacting over something small that bothers only me and nobody else, and if that's the case, it's all good. Thanks for reading up on a fan's take, edit how you want make the content you want to make, and thanks for being one of the most entertaining personalities I've found in recent years.

I'm hyped to see Dabuz win this tourney, but this bracket was the most residentsleeper Top 8 I've ever seen in any smash game. Glad you made a highlights cuz it was fun to watch it with your commentary about absolute randomness.
I honestly just cannot understand the perspective of liking Rosa less than Dabuz’s other characters, like she’s not super interesting but she can at least do cool setups and tech with Luma that add a bit of variety. Olimar and min min just spam the same moves to camp you out (no hate against Dabuz that’s just how the characters play)
