    Good work, these plants are lots of fun to grow. This is very much like what we do with the Agaves that we grow here and I have been looking at this one old pot lately, with many, yellowish Agave Queens squished inside it. Maybe I should do something with that soon. OK, step one: clean and cut. Step two: prepare soil and pot. Step three: arrange the beautiful display. Step four: withhold the urge to water them for at least a week. Step five: distribute samples and disguise them as gifts! Haha, I wish that you were my sister-in-law or something like that. Then I know that the parties would be interesting. Thanks

      ***** Thanks so much Bob for your wonderful comment :-) LOL! at the Sister in Law haha! unfortunately my family and fiends don't share the same obsession with cacti and succulents that i have haha! that think i am so batty with the amount I have but in a nice way LOL! I LOVE the idea of having a Cacti and succulent party where everyone could come and exchange plants :-) Thanks so much for watching Bob and have a really WONDERFUL weekend :-) XXXXX

    Omg this really helped me out a lot, I just repotted my haworthia fasciata and a lot of roots fell of and I freaked out. Glad to learn it is normal! I did repot it way larger, i dont have a lot of pots so I have to make do with what I have…. Is it very harmful or does it really matter all that much?

    Great video.....I didn't know that howarthias like or prefer a richer soil!!
    That's probably why it's best to plant them together no??
    Also....I was wondering if you could make your own cactus/ succulent compost??....most everything I do has to be DYI just because money is really tight but by doing it myself, it lots me the ability to purchase some really beautiful cacti from nurseries....from time to time of course!
    Anywho...Long live King Hass!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 роки тому +1

      Hi David :-D yes you can plant Haworthias together as long as they are not planted too close to each other as they like a lot of root space and can grow quite wide, I love to make my own cactus and succulent soil as its so much more economical and its so good to be in control of what goes into it, I use 3 equal parts of Loam, sand and grit, here is a short video of How I make my own Cactus and Succulent soil: ua-cam.com/video/8s9Jq7qbfA0/v-deo.html thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful plant powered new week ahead XXXX

      I just watched this video! I guess what I'm wandering is how to make the John innes stuff ....how to make the actual soil that becomes the soil...does that make sense? I ask because I'm not an expert that's all....at any rate I really appreciate the videos and the feedback and all your help ....
      It means a lot believe me, after all, you owe mean nothing

    Hi Lyn! I took some pups from my Haworthia today. One of them popped off without roots. My question is, if I pot it up will it grow as is or is it a goner without its roots? Thank you for your time!...🌵

      Hi Aubrey :-) the good news is that you can pot up your Haworthia pups without the roots and they will still form roots over the coming weeks :-) thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and heaps of happiness and PLANT POWER from right across the Emerald Isle and have a wonderful Wednesday XXXXX

    I probably should have mentioned that I have then in my bedroom that rarely drops below 55 f, if has too be extremely cold outside for if to get down to that.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  9 років тому

      Paul Davenport Hi Paul :-) Happy New Year to you :-) It should be ok for you to re pot your Haworthias and Aloes now if you keep them in a room that doesn't drop below 55f and keep them only just moist until the spring as I find my Aloes and Haworthias still carry on growing during the winter unlike my Cacti and other plants, and they are in the conservatory at 5c most days. i do think that they would be fine in the mix you have made for a good while though if you would prefer to wait until the Spring, but longterm i always find that they prefer a more richer soil than the other cacti and succulents, Hope this helps and happy growing for a wonderful 2015 XXXX

      heartfullofhappiness Happy New year Lynn, hope you had a good en :)
      Thanks for the info. There's so much conflicting advice out there its really hard to know what to do for the best. Like you showed in the video though, most people seem to be going half compost and half various drainage materials.
      I'm hearing a lot of people banging on about pumice too so I've ordered a litre. My mix will then be 1 part perlite 1 part sand 1 part pumice and 3 parts compost. What do you think?

    • @pauldavenport6466
      @pauldavenport6466 9 років тому +1

      Paul Davenport Hi Paul :-) so sorry I have only just seen this reply now as it went into my spam mail for some reason, yes 1 part perlite, 1 part sand, and 1 part pumice with 3 parts compost sounds perfect for using :-) Sorry for only just seeing this now, wishing you a fantastic weekend ahead :-)

    Hi Lyn, I was wondering if you know if it's too late in the year or to cold to repot one of my haworthias and one of my Aloes.
    The reason I want to do this now is because I made a mix of equal parts perlite sand and compost for them and have recently read that this isn't ideal, I'm worried that if I leave then in this over the winter they might deteriorate. I should have added more compost apparently.

      +12109babygurl Thats so wonderful you have a Haworthia plant :-) They are wonderful plants to grow, and I will make a vid in the future about how to care for these plants, I have made a vid on how to care for Gasteria's and although they are different plants, the care for both Gasteria's and Haworthias are very much the same, and this should help you with the care for Haworthias too, here is a link to the vid :-) ua-cam.com/video/TYOyPTZht44/v-deo.html Hope this helps and sending you lots of love and happy growing from Ireland for a wonderful weekend XXXXX

    Hello when can I fertilize and when can.I repot?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  6 років тому

      Hi there :-) its best to re pot during the Spring and summer but with Haworthia's you can repot them any time of year as long as you use dry soil and do not water them immediately after re potting, keep them dry for at least a week afterwards to help any damaged roots to heal over, thanks so much for watching and have a fantastic day XXXX
