shout out to the one fanfiction where Abbadon almost made it past the Eternity gate, but even as his marines are butchering the last few guards standing between him and the Throne, it's described something like "99.9% of the lasbolts fired in desperation by these terrified soldiers, bounce harmlessly off his armour. One. ONE. finds a crack in his helmet and is able to fry the bastards brain. even the soldier who fired the one in a million has no idea it was him. it's just sheer swell of numbers that pulls it off."
One thing I always thought was goofy and darkly absurd with the Guard was you can sometime be literally *born* into military service. While there are several male and female-only regiments there's also quite a few that are co-ed, and whenever a baby inevitably results from this they're pretty much immediately inducted either into the Guard the moment they're born and raised to be a Guardsman or given to the Schola Progenium (the same place where they train Sisters of Battle and commissars) if their parents die in battle.
Why give them to the guard? Imagine spending all those rations to feed a baby to like minimum 8 years old for him to be absolute cannon fodder Tho imperium do be like that tho
I heard a story about how during a set of matches for a store run tournament that were supposed to be being played on the same world, a guy used a Deathstrike missile launcher to hit an chaos army fighting against marines on another table lmao
It was a combination. The Legions were the hammer blow, while the Imperial Army were the anvil. Between them they'd break an opponent then hold and fashion a world or civilisation to rheir liking. In 40K the Guard are the first and last lines of defence. The marines act as either elite forces, plugging holes in defence and eliminating strategic targets, or knights that sally forth to engage foes beyond the defences. At least 90% of all the fighting is done by the Guard alone though.
The Imperial Army was crucial to aid in establishing the Imperium's local governance on a planet/system, and are extremely underrated due to the Heresy lore being (rightly so) focused on the demigods of war fighting oneanother. Lord Solar Macharius conquered a thousand planets during his crusade, and performed better than some legions well after the Crusade's end.

“What’s your favourite regiment”
3 guesses, first 2 don’t count
I love the guard so much I've been running a ttrpg for 2 years for no other reason than to have an excuse to use the minis I got back in 3rd edition. No regerts
My man Matrix dodged any mention of kreig he could and got grazed once.
Guardsmen get by on a flashlight and a prayer. Easily the biggest badasses in 40k if you ask me.
My three favorite regiments are the Lucifer Blacks who i really really want to get their own models, the Indigan Praefects, and the Savlar Chem Dogs
guard were my first ever army but are also still my favorite. i just wish i could rebuy all my steel legion figures and tanks
He didn't mention the Tanith because they're hidden in the video. We can't see them, but they're actually sneaking into every single picture with knives drawn.
Yes eldar and space marines are fast enough to doge lazgun shots but that doesn’t matter when there’s more laser than air
I dont know if they count, but the Lucifer Blacks! I LOVE YOUR CONTENT KEEP IT UP!!!
In the WH40K universe as a human you will die horribly or you can join the Imperial Guard and then die horribly. Ave Imperator!
1:45 That would be PDF; the Guard is ELITE.
i hear about something called Winza winged hussars, it is cannon guard regiment or some fanfic ?
While my favourite regiment is my own dudes. I'd like to mention the Terrax guard, regiments comprised of almost entirely of Commissars; yes, they took *blam* man with a fancy hat and decided to make regiments comprised of them (with the addition of some stormtroopers/scions for good measure), it's a shame that they've only got a singular entry in the 3rd ed. IG codex.
Also it's worth mentioning that the IG aren't your regular soldiers, they're the best (or almost best) that a planet has to offer and they're still weak compared to everyone else.
I'd also like to give a quick mention of some other regiments I like. The: Elysian Drop Troops, Harkoni Warhawks, Phantine Air Corps (don't tell the Navy about them), Praetorian Guard, Last Chancers, Drookian Fen Guard, and Finreht Highlanders.
6:06 IT IS THE BANEBLADE!
Maybe a bit of a niche take but I would enjoy hearing your book recommendations
