Dude Your Awesome!!
I cannot stand that feature on my vehicle.
thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with your family out here in the real world.
Thank you! This was frustrating to me and I have been driving mine for months now with no “side affects”.
Very helpful. Thank you for keeping the video simple and to the point too. Much appreciated!
Great feedback! Glad I could help!
Thank you Micah. I just did what you showed to my '21 Ranger and I can't tell that it affected anything else at all. You just saved me $100 and aggravation too. Ill check back here later to see if anyone finds a reason not to do this your way.
You're welcome! I've been driving mine this way for weeks now and I haven't noticed anything not working!
Another great video...thank you. I was making a left and waiting, , vehicle is off means the steering is not properly engaged so it was definitely a pain making the left and moving quickly. It was like driving my 1980 Mazda 808 with no automatic steering..lmao! Thanks again!
Yes, I've had it unplugged for months now and have not noticed anything not working.
This works - thank you!
On my 2021, the indicator light does not stay lit up either, even better.
Perfect!
Thank You. I was going to bypass a purchase of the 2022 Ranger because of the idle stop feature. Did not know of the button bypass option, nevertheless a permanent fix is the proper route. SUBBED and Thumbs up....
Thanks so much Victor! Yes, I know of the button, but you have to press it every time you start the truck. Very annoying! I've had it unplugged for a year now and have had no issues.
Thank you!! I love my 2020 Ranger but didn’t want to spend the $89 for that kit. And yes this has been soooo annoying but this trick took care of the auto stop for free!
Glad I could help! Enjoy!
Thanks for your video, it worked on my 2021 Ranger too
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback!
I'm going to try it tomorrow on my 2019 Ford Ranger but I appreciate you
You will love it!
Thanks very simple fix to a most annoying issue
Yes I agree! I had to plug it back in to go to the dealer after not having it plugged in for over a year and it was so annoying!
Very helpful tip! thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Work 100% on a 2021 , thx ;)
Thanks Denis!
You sir as we say in Australia are a Legend!!!
Thank you sir!
does this work on the Australian bi turbo ranger 2.0
Super easy super necessary wow thanks
Glad I could help!
THANKS A MILLION!!!
You're welcome!
Thay You for your help. I would suggest protecting the connector and port with electrical tape just to prevent corrosion in case someday you might decide to sell the vehicle.
Yes, that's a good idea. Thanks!
Thank you so much for that video I cannot stand that feature on any vehicle
Same! Glad I could help!
You are awesome!
You too!! Thanks!
Thanks bro genius 🙏
Glad I could help!
ohh my God I found!!!!!.. thanks brother for that.
Glad to help! It may not work on newer models. I’ve had comments that it’s doesn’t work on 2023’s.
Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
After reading some of the comments on the battery charging issue. My Ranger battery already shut down brand new after sitting a few days So I now use a battery tender like I have on every other engine powered device I have so this will not be an issue for me I believe
Oh wow. I have had this disconnected for over 18 months now and have not had any issues with the battery or anything else. I do drive it almost every day though.
The other great part of this fix is that it's so simple you can plug it in any time you bring it to a dealer for service so they don't get to say anything.
Exactly!
Thanks for the work
I have an other major issue I don’t want to come back to Ford please help me
My touchscreen is moving by himself this is so ANNOYING even DANGEROUS on the road because I can be on the GPS and the screen go and click everywhere
I did a reset ten times, update with USB, reboot the screen with the buttons...
Nothing work
Any idea?
I'm sorry, I haven't experienced anything like that and I have no idea what would cause it!
@@MicahMartinDIY ok no problem thank you !!
😎
I did this on my own, but I disconnected it at the positive terminal. All is great now.. But should I connect the positive back up, and disconnect it at the negative terminal?
I just left the whole plug detached.
Hey, it’s been a few months, have you seen it affect any other safety/driving features?
It hasn't. No adverse affects, does not affect any other features at all. Much more pleasant to drive too!
Im so glad that they gave me $100 off my 2021 to not have the auto start stop in it because of the chip shortage. I don't know anyone but the government that likes that "feature".
Oh wow, that's cool! Yes, it is really annoying!
Recently ordered a 2022. Don't have it yet, but I also had the option to opt out of auto-start stop thanks to the chip shortage. Did they still put the button for it there?
@@vitaming582 No there isn't a button. Just a blank like you would see in other places.
Does it affect the trailer lights like the hack on some of the older f150s?
I’m not sure. I haven’t pulled a trailer with it since.
I might try this in my 21 Ranger. I hate that option. Sometimes I forget to turn it off and I think my truck is dead.
Yeah it was so annoying. It's nice not to have to turn it off every time now.
Thanks for the shorter explanation compared to that other guy that made me pull my hair out from the bla bla bla in his video.
Haha! Thanks! I try to include as much info as possible while also keeping the videos as brief as possible. Maybe it's becuase I have no hair to pull out!
Can I just go directly to the dealer and have them permanently disable it? Can they do so? I just purchased a 2023 Ford Escape 2 days ago and has this intrusive auto stop start feature!!
I don't know if they can reprogram it or not. I have heard of 3rd party programmers that can disable it. This works fine though. I haven't had any issues.
nice easy trick
Thanks glad to help!
You disconnected the battery management system. While yes, by doing so, it does disable the auto start/stop. But not recommended since it may shorten lifespan of the battery. Like somebody else commented, I too bought the auto start/stop eliminator. It installs inline at the switch in the center console. What it does is allow the switch to retain memory. The next time you start the truck, it remembers you turned auto start/stop off.
I don’t know if that’s accurate. I’ve driven the truck for months now with no issues. My battery is fine and I still get the “shutting down to preserve battery” message if I leave the ignition on for too long while the engine is off.
I herd it messed with the trailer connections there's other things on that plug I plugged mine back in
Thanks Jerry! I'll keep that in mind next time I have to tow a trailer. So far, I have not seen it affect anything else and I am loving not having that annoying shutoff. The good news is that if I have to reconnect for any reason in the future, it takes less than 30 seconds to do and requires no tools!
Yea, that seems unlikely- but I will confirm as well. There appears to be only one circuit (2 wires) affected by the harness on a 2021.
Not a fan of taking action based on rumors.
I did it to my 2023 ranger, it disables the auto start/stop function, but I am getting a warning at each start saying: charging system service soon...so instead disabling auto start/stop after each start I now have to confirm the warning message by hitting "OK" 😀
I don't get that at all on my 2020, so they must have changed something.
@@MicahMartinDIY yeah, I guess each generation will be harder to outsmart. I am still happier with it, as I can clean the message by hitting OK anytime during the ride and the engine keeps running. so a small win.
On my Dodge Charger it's battery had the same connector ... disabled ... no more auto start/stop !
Oh nice! Glad I could heklp!
I did this in my 2022 Ford Edge and an alert started coming up saying “Check Charge System” it was the exact same looking plug, and the auto start stop, did infact no longer work… I’m just wondering if Ford fixed this “hack” to prevent people from doing this.
It sounds like they did. That explains some of the comments then!
@@MicahMartinDIY yeah my father has a 2019 Ford Ranger and unplugging it worked and didn’t have that error message I got..
Low defroster button also prevents the auto-stop/start from engaging.
Really? First I've heard of that!
Can't speak to your Ranger (not sure of year) but it works on my 2017 Fusion SE 1.5 ecoB. Tried the connector-pull you mention and yeah, it worked too but with a downside. On my Fusion, that hack also disabled the remote-start. Which honestly I don't use much if ever, but, it's so cool losing it was a deal breaker for me. I assume the defroster works because it trips the A/C. Setting the temp at or above ambient, and the fan at 2 or 1 you can be pretty sure the A/C is in a "low-mode", on mine, this way, the MPG impact of the AC is minimal. Less than 1 mpg@@MicahMartinDIY
Isn't that the voltage sensor? Quite an easy hack but now the vehicle will think the battery is dying, which is why it will then disable auto start-stop. Another option could be to just have a dying battery.
I've had it dosconnected for 18 months now and have had no issues with the battery at all.
any issues during the winter time?
No, none at all.
Wow that was easy
Glad I could help!
This is not correct, with that plug disconnected not only does it stop the auto start-stop it doesn't charge the vehicle at the optimal rate because that's actually what detects the battery charge rate and it lists the computer know and the computer can actually control how the alternator is functioning when you unplug that you go to a default pattern that does not charge and keep the battery to its Optimal Health and keep ample amount of power supply to everything in case of a high load situation
I’ve had it unplugged for 18 months now and have not had a single issue. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but my truck has not had any problems with the battery.
@MicahMartinDIY I'm not trying to tell you anything to make you feel bad about what you did but what I am trying to tell you is something to educate you and explain the system to you
Without that connector plugged in if you have a high-end vehicle with many features it could actually start disabling other things as well I have a whole video on the auto start-stop system and explaining the functions
I'm actually loading a video right this second where I just disabled it in a Ford Ranger explaining exactly why you should not do that
It actually can take away from the health of the battery overall long-term years down the road where you might be able to get an extra year or two out of it by letting it function the way it's supposed to
Doesnt work mine started throwing codes had to go to dealer
That's odd. I didn't have any if that on my 2020. What year is yours?
This does work.,but you lose the smart charging system. Reverts back to old school charging.
I'm not arguing that, but I have had this unplugged for well over a year now and have not had any issues whatsoever with my truck or my battery.
And that's a good thing, the smart charging is garbage I used to get dead battery all the time when using the smart charging, I had it disabled in software via Ford and no more flat batteries
A few have commented that this is not a good hack as you’re disabling the Battery Monitoring System BMS. Several potential risks to systems. Here is a link to a Ford Techs UA-cam video discussing the purpose of this system and it importance.
Forewarned is forearmed.

Thank you for the warning. I have been driving with this connector unplugged for well over a year now with no negative side affects that I have noticed. I will watch the video though to educate myself. If I do notice a problem in the future, I will make another video retracting this.
FordPass will send error code to phone. Even worse remote start will not work.
Negative. This didn't happen on my 2020. I have my truck scheduled to start every morning and it works fine. No error code either.
My remote start works and No error codes
How about a hack that disables ALL ANNOYING CHIMES🤬🤬🤬
What chimes are you referring to Michael?
What you did isn't the correct way to do this mod. Unplugging that pigtail affects more than just the auto start/stop. Just buy the Autostop Eliminator for $100, like I did :)
Can you elaborate on what else is affected? Thanks!
@@germanfornine I watched several videos, but this one is for an F-150 (but same auto start/stop issue), ua-cam.com/video/Fn5OFJ5KLWw/v-deo.html made a lot of good points about doing it the right and wrong way.
Thank you Jay! So far, I have not seen it affect anything else and I am loving not having that annoying shutoff. The good news is that if I have to reconnect for any reason in the future, it takes less than 30 seconds to do and requires no tools!
@@MicahMartinDIY No problem! It was just my opinion and I wanted mine done without it affecting anything, especially after watching a ton of videos about doing it. Mine requires no tools either, just pry up the shifter/console trim and unplug the stock pigtail and add the eliminator, then snap the trim piece back in :) Took maybe 3-5 minutes
Cheaper is better if it works lol and it only has something to do with automatic start and stop
Thank you!! I love my 2020 Ranger but didn’t want to spend the $89 for that kit. And yes this has been soooo annoying but this trick took care of the auto stop for free!
Glad I could help! Enjoy!
