One of the elite groups of that time… Their music never gets old it’s as good today as it was then
So happy that this music is still appreciated.
Smoke gets in your eyes,Harbour Lights and Twilight Time are three other great songs by them.🎶🌴
"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is a masterpiece of the Rock N Roll era. It's such an amazing song.
The voice of Tony Williams. Incomparable. ❤️❤️
Anything this man sings is wonderful. This group has perfect sound. I have loved this group my entire life.
I absolutely ❤❤❤ The Platters - or I should say specifically, the powerful, yet beautiful smoothness of Tony Williams' voice. For me, him and Dean Martin are 2 of my all-time favorite voices. Simply velvet. You already know this I'm sure but his voice really shines also on "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
My father was a big fan of the Platters, so I was raised on this tune.
I remember this so well because I’m old. The Platters were huge. The lead singer had such a beautiful voice. He was Tony Williams a former parking lot attendant.
My Mom Loved this Song. My love for music exists because of Her!
The platters could sing the phone book and make it sound amazing. Such talent.
I LOVE how nicely they are dressed!! It's so beautiful it puts tears in my eyes. Wow how much the times have changed. These singing groups were dressing like Oscar night just to appear on TV.
The Platters... ANGELS OF MUSIC 👼👼👼👼🎶🎶🎶🎶
#ThePlatters
I love this era of music.
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest groups....love it.
One of the best groups of all time. Gives me chills, such a beautiful voice.
More Platters to try: My Prayer, Twilight Time, Only You, Smoke Gets In Your Eye’s, Harbor Lights. All gems. They were a 1950s doo wop/pop group.
Flawless!! I love watching them sway in sync! Beautiful voices!
This is an absolutely beautiful song, they were incredible, love it a thousand times over.
Nice one jay. One of the best ever.. so many great songs. Try- smoke gets in your eyes, my prayer, only you.. the 50s had some of the best music and singing ever
The classic groups from the 50s and 60s are definitely iconic and in A League of their own. There were no machines to fix a bad voice you had to have the goods and the platters definitely did
Wow, what a great performance 🎭
Unmistakable sound of an oldie but goodie.
The Platters are a definite favorite. I'm 51 years old but remember my mom and dad singing and dancing to these songs.
A CLASSIC! What a voice. Now I would love you to react to Freddie Mercury's version of this. He always felt the lyrics to this song was his entire life.
It actually came out in 1956.
AND FREDDIE MERCURY had made a recording of it too!! I know how much you love him and would want to hear it! Love always !!
One of the best voices ever love the platters.
Tony Williams voice was superb, up there with the greats.
Yeslord
Couldn’t agree more - The Platters are the gold standard! 🙌
November 1955. Lots of great songs since then, but Tony Williams was perfect here.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time .. I just NEVER get tired of listening to it .. Perfect melody .. Perfect lead vocals .. Perfect harmonies .. And as you said, it's totally relatable in it's lyrics .. Thanks for reacting to this masterpiece, and I'm so glad you appreciated it too.
Classic ‘50s music by one of the best groups from that time! My lovely Mom’s favorites!! React to Twilight Time by The Platters.
Those were the days of great music.
This was one of my parents favorite groups. I was fortunate as a child to hear this music in our house. It made appreciate great soul singers. And I was a child of the 70's, so this was way before my time but I love to hear it.
These songs always remind me of my dad .rip Dad and thanks for introducing me to great music 💖
I was five. But heard this song quite often, into my early teens.
Thanks so much for keeping the Platters alive, Jovaughn ~
A Platters song that young people in 2021 might know best is Twilight Time because it's featured in a current tv show. If you want to hear more Platters it's a good one to check out.
The Platters were phenomenal, and this is one of my all-time favorite songs. Freddie Mercury did a beautiful rendition to this song too. You should listen to The Four Tops's Reach Out (I'll Be There).
It was the Four Tops that had Reach Out as a big, big hit.
@@docbearmb Thanks!
I always loved oldies, and this has always been one of my faves. And, you're absolutely right. You can't go wrong with The Platters:) Ever!
Jay this was in the 50s. You cant miss it its in black and white. You cant disguise brilliant music they were so fabulous there's no one that does it like that anymore God Bless them and others of there era. Thank God we can see and hear them even today.
Check out "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and "My Prayer." The Platters are simply one of the greatest of all time.
❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
Still brings tears.
""Ebb Tide", "My Prayer", "The Magic Touch", "Harbor Lights", "Twilight Time".. Sooo many great songs!!!!❤❤❤
Yes, the Platters are a top tier group!
I recommend "Twilight Time"
Their music is just beautiful!
My sister, who's 6 years older than myself, had stacks of 45's of all the legendary songs back then and I really started liking it too after hearing it so much. I still today put on CDs and listen to the Platters and other groups like them from those days. Yes, I so wish we still had all those 45's. Tony Williams is the lead singer and what a sweet voice he had. Great reaction!
You need to ho further back than 45's..the platters were issued on 78's..
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 but ours were definitely 45's
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 The Platters formed in 1952. 45's were introduced in 1949
@@Cashcrop54 i had 78's with the platters on from my parents thats why i posted my comment.. I gave them away yrs ago..
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 I believe you. Never thought you were wrong.
The beat is a bit upbeat/sways...but the words say sooo much of how lonely he is! Great harmonizing and vocals.
Along with Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson, Tony Williams here was, IMO the greatest singers of that era. Listen to Tony and The Platters doing "Harbor Lights", "My Prayer" and "Only You" if you aren't convinced.
Great group, wonderful song!
I love these old groups and their music, this was music in my parents time, but I heard this music playing in my home and especially at my Aunt house she had all that music and I remember having so many 45 records and the box and they went missing 😞 but this music paved they way for other groups after. Thank God for generations of music all different but beautiful 😍
Thanks for this!! Love it! I agree with all the praise you heap on this class group!! LOVE This song-- fond memories. My kids learned the lyrics to it, and they loved to break out singing it whenever I played their CD of Greatest Hits.
Hes a fantastic singer. Im listening to this over 60 years and still love it. The whole group is incredible! Great song to react to. Not sure if this is Doowop but definitely this and Doowop are one of my favorite genres of music.
That's what we're missing now, the harmonies, clear, unaltered voices. Keep reviewing the 50's and 60's.
So....talent? 😂
@@brandonl718yes lil,bro
He won't be disappointed😎👍
I grew up listening to this group with my dad's side of the family. It shows you can enjoy music with and from any color of skin - great stuff!!!!
Growing up is SoCal in the late 70s & 80s we had great oldies station K-EARTH 101. So happy to have had that exposure to 50s & 60s music.
Yes, please do keep exploring The Platters. I would do "My Prayer" next, but "Twilight Time" and "The Magic Touch" are good too.
My mother loved The Platters, and passed that down to me. I think they're underrated.
Smoke gets in your eyes is a great song from them
Can't go wrong with The Platters. A personal favourite. I believe this clip is from Rock around the Clock, one of my Dad's all time fav. He still remembers coming out of the pictures in rural Western Australia after seeing this and rock was all he wanted. He said it was something they had never seen before and it was just so amazing and important.
Great stuff!!! Love the Platters' song, My Prayer. You should also listen to Little Anthony & The Imperials. My favorite song of theirs is Tears On My Pillow.
Dear JV, I'd love you to react to one of the best American films ever made called AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1973) which utilizes this beautiful song and other great period music of that time period. You'll love it.
I heard this song all the time as a little kid it’s the first song I can remember from my birth in 1962.
You should listen to Freddie Mercury’s version as well! Both are beautiful!
“Twilight time”is great and “with this ring” is upbeat
Tony Williams the lead singer was fantastic. After his passing, Sonny Turner from West Virginia was hired as their lead singer. He's still at it at his age. Freddy Mercury did a rendition of this beautiful song.
WOW takes me straight back to weekends with Dad playing music all night and the Platters were on the rotation many times.
Five of the greatest voices in pop music ever...!!...they do magic..!!..♥️
Happy to hear them again. Their voices are so beautiful. My mom loved them so much and passed it on to me.
Maybe do some 50's doo-wop music? There's a lot of good stuff out there.
I remember listening to this on my Sony aquaman while working as a gardener in the late 80’s, I started to sing along using my rake like a mic stand and got carried away, when I looked around there was a minibus full of students behind me watching. Great song, great reaction.
Mr. Tony Williams on Lead..... One of the Goats🎤🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼🎤👌💯💯💯
I like you Jay....You get it! Just how good these groups were. Tony Williams is the lead singer here.
I was only ten years old when this song came out. However, I remember this song and the Platters so well. I loved them and this song. Seeing and hearing this again I can see why. Great group, great song.
I'm so glad you are getting back to the vintage r and b. You loved ONLY YOU and SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES by the Platters, so keep those old r&b songs coming.
Freddie Mercury did a great cover of this song.
Yes! Was thinking that also. I think it really does the original justice. ✌🏼
No! Fred did an amazing awesome cover and made this song his own! ^^+gg
I respect your choice but i would prefer this version myself because i felt freddie was horrendous at this. Too much shouting with freddie.
My idol in the fast tony williams n zola taylor...rest in peace to both of you....im now 74 n alot of recording which i collected .....
66 years old....and still is great :)
One of my most favorite groups! Grew up listening to the Plattters The Temptations, Four Tops, Drifters , Supremes, Motown, Rock & Roll . What a musical feast
One of my favorites love all the old Motown songs
Great song and reaction thank you for this one love it
Way before my time but my parents loved this group and a I grew up listening to their music. Timeless and perfect
This was a comfort to me when I was young. They said exactly how i felt
Thank you SO much Jaycee for reacting to this! I LOVE The Platters! I’m an old lady from Down Under! I wasn’t born when this came out however it’s truly amazing music! Tony Williams was the singer! This was an ABSOLUTE delight! Take care and stay safe! Greetings from Australia.
I was only 2 or 3 when this came out but I heard it on the radio BBC a lot, Mum had it on from when she got up until bedtime so we heard music most of the day. The Platters were great favourites but we didn't have records or a record player then so it was the radio where we got our appreciation of music from (and Mum God bless her). This song shows their brilliant talents, the lead singer has a wonderful voice and the backing singers are fantastic. Please listen to more of the music from that era sweetheart, they made some great music and the singers had great voices, you wont be disappointed. Your reactions were wonderful to watch and listen to, you said about hearing every word he sang and I know one of my Grandmothers would have praised his diction which was perfect lol. Take care and stay safe please my friends God bless you all love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
Just peerless stuff. What a great group
Thanks J! I feel like there will never be music like this again. Amazing vocal quality. So smooth, soulful and great story-telling.
This was a very special time in music. I tell you, Tony Williams was underrated for sure.
1955 ! The Platters - awesome group from the early days of rock .
This is one of my all time favorites. I grew up loving this song.
Perfect song! Harmonies unreal, his pitch…..Woo!
Love this song, you should react to The Drifters :)
My brother and I used to sing this and The Wayward Wind all the way from Minnesota to the far side of South Dakota. Still Good music!
They were class. Fantastic voice. 1950s early 60s.
Saw them in person in Miami in 1968. Fantastic performance.
This song is my number one of all time.
You are the first reacter that I've seen who got into the meaning of the lyrics. Great job.
Gold Standard for real! These types of songs are now legendary !
So much love for the Platters. 💜💜💜
Wooo hooo! Bravo! 👏👏👏👏 Not my era of music but my parents loved the music of the 1950's too so we grew up listening to their music too! Love your reaction to this video! Fantastic! Do another one! Peace!
They sounded so incredible.
Love their music and I love seeing them in black and white from back in the day. I think this might be one of their big hits.
Loved their music, my parents song was "My Prayer" so I grew up listening to them.
My late mum was a fan and went to see them at the Odeon in Southport UK. My dads brother escorted her as my dad was in Libya doing his National service.
I always loved the Platters ❤
