Just a little tip 😉 drill a hole at the end of the chute deflector some where in the middle and attach a bungycord to it so you can lift it up it helps in tull grass and drop it when you need to.
I highly doubt he doesn't know that ,really ....working with any lawnmower ,small or large ,u learn that stuff in first 5 minutes.I could only guess he wanted to cut grass 2 times because dull blades didn't cut it enough small.
When you are in areas where there is good distance to cars and windows, get a strap to hold the deflector up and it will throw the grass farther and disperses it more. That seems to help me quite a lot.
Thank You for not throwing the cut grass onto the road. So many people do and it causes wrecks for Motorcycles. The cut grass is like trying to ride on ice.
We have a craftsman 19.5 hp 42 inch cut. It takes me bout hour 20 minutes. I use sta bil in mid grade gas so water doesn't build up. I wish we had wheels on the deck, mole runs don't help. Our subdivision used to be pasture land dips, slants. Were gonna have to put down grass seed from areas that are slanted. Dips. Good thing I learned at an early age. Absolutely love your show, quality work you do. Keep em coming.
Love those zero turns.. We used to run an old Scag V-Ride standon model with a triple width deck for a council grass team here in the uk .. and that scag was only brought out for trails and brambles and stuff over knee high and it demolished every last thing it came against :)
Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!
Run two Z950m JD and love them. Recommend raising discharge guard and cut first run on higher setting. On second run lower setting and run horizontally to clean up cut.
Dull blades can zap the bet mower. Now all we need is for someone to invent a blade that never dulls! Zero turn mowers are great machines. Thanks for the video!
Used to have a yard big enough for one of these. Now I live in an apartment. Kind of miss cutting the grass. It always smells so good. Everybody I follow on YT seems to be struggling with overheated GoPros. When your business depends on capturing video and the camera is letting you down, something has to change. Definitely room for someone to come out with a similar camera that can handle heat.
Never ran a Deere zero turn but the scag cheetah does a nice job. I got to pleasure to try one out and loved it. I run a hustler, always been happy with them but if I get the chance I'm going to test one of these out next. Haven't made my mind up what I want to go with. Also I noticed people talking about what to do about the grass discharge and yes I noticed you recut at the start but discharged the grass out of the tall grass. Not sure what you're cutting at but when I come across grass like this, the deck goes all the way up and slow down some, of course I don't have the grass discharge on mine i made my own, but anyways let the blades catch up to the engine. Nice job in the end.
Great job. A possible suggestion would be to lift that black grass deflector (a bungee cord would work). That way, I believe the grass won't bogg down as much and get stuck as it exits the chute. I really enjoy your videos.
jack the black grass deflector is called A FLAP and u are right pros like us knows that for many many years so we don t understand why it s not everybody that use our tips ????
Looks like it cuts good like my JD E180 25HP 54" deck. You will definitely have to go over it twice, not sure if you ran it with the deck fully raised. I would've ran a open chute cutting that tall stuff too.
Jmop Your over working the mower with the side shoot down and mowing so shortly, I'd mow and blow the clippings in 1 direction not recutting over and over, sharp blades for big jobs help as well...
ive got a z915e i love it too i put some bar lug tires on the rear and its a tank. if you cut your discharge chute down to where the sticker is it wont wad up grass as bad and it wont bog your mower down as bad either just a tip thats wat i do on all my mowers
I started mowing lawns when I was 13 and I mowed 90 lawns when I was 13 and I show my dad how to make 9000 dollars 💵 per day mowing lawns when I was 13 😂 😊 😅
Hey mate I know this video is a year or so old but u really should look into the kavli mower blades either the beast or the finisher they make easy work of conditions like what ur mowing and leave a top level finish also make the gator’s ect look like budget options, Cheers mate love the channel
I honestly wouldn't pay attention to what these others say. When you're cutting a vacant lot in a highly frequented area you gotta protect the borders which, yes, means you have to throw the discharge into the uncut grass. We have a ¼ acre vacant lot next to us I mowed for 5 years. All I have is a Craftsman LT1000 rider. It did the job, and so did I. I found that to protect the borders you throw the discharge into the uncut grass for 3 passes, and one you've got that barrier you take your first pass facing outward as just a quarter pass. You are literally just throwing your discharge back out into the cut grass again so you don't big down. The biggest improvement I made once the lot was tamed was to get Oregon™ Mulching Blades. These are the same design as Gator Blades™ and made out of heavier gauge steel. These things mulch like no tomorrow including branches up to 1¼ inches wide without nicking or filling the blades. Regardless you did an excellent job. Say do I see that you cleaned up that hedge line in the back again? Last I remember it was seriously overgrown.
I love the "quick cuts" that you can bring the mower to do. I have a old Deere 318 with a 54" deck that's a flat out beast for field work. I have to ask though, what's with the black clothes? I get the long sleeves and pants, but black... this time of year.... am I missing something, because I'm leaning more towards tans and whites in August heat.
Greenwood's Bush Hogging -- I would stroke out here in Little Rock too especially in the Summer it does not get as HOT here as it does down there but it does get down right HOT here I do it all with a PUSH MOWER or a HIGH WHEELED STRING TRIMMER & that is not easy I have over an ACRE of GROUND to cover not all in 1 local either it is spread out I live in an underground house in the side of a hill I MOW the top of the house due to it having GRASS Planted on top of it to keep the GROUND in PLACE & from WASHING away during a heavy rain there is GRASS every where around here
Just thinking here, wouldn't it be better to cut with the deck at a higher setting and then go back over again and lower it. Yes I know it takes longer but going to short at first run when its so long like this, basically not making it look like a great job. Thoughts?
I have a 960m .. I'm cut the first round about four or five then drop down to two or two and a half on the same spot and make a second round and it works great .. I can cut 4-ft Johnson grass with no problem
Fantastic. I ride a Big Dog 🐶 zero turn. But I noticed for a 30 hour new machine your cut pattern has two elevated lines rather than an even cut. It should be less pronounced than it is surely. Wish I could attach an image of my fields. Thanks for sharing. I also run a mulch system rather than a spray out funnel.
You need a Grasshopper zero turn with a flail mower if you're going to continue cut weeds and tall grass like that. Iowa Farm Equipment has flail mowers that'll fit on the front of Grasshopper mowers.
You can see it leaves half of the grass uncut because you always want to blow the grass away from what isn't cut yet, more of a circle pattern blowing the grass away.
If you will cut going left you will not be cuting all that other grass you have already cut once. That is why it is set to blow the grass a way from that you have already cut . Also you won't have all them big piles in rows . I saw you did it at the start to keep out of the road . But why did you keep doing it
With the horsepower you have always mow with the discharge shute on the outside so you don’t double cut. Also saves time. Also saves the cutting edge sharpness.
With that kind of money invested in that mower would it not be wise to mow that high stuff in layers? I have since purchased my beast ISX 3300 36 HP Vanguard 72 inch cut what a beast smooth cut no scalping the suspension is sweet
just another tip! when you crest the top of a hill try pushing the deck up with the foot pedal that way it doesn't grind the ground like it did when your crested the top of the little dip! I know on our scags the more you bottom the deck out the harder it is to get the blade bolts off because everything you grind the ground it smashes the bolts on harder and harder and they are a b**ch to get off
I’ve never seen anyone mow like that blowing the grass back into the standing grass when its that tall it makes the mower work harder and you have to go slower
still all those clumps man its i guess use for this field bud i got higher up in price for a bobcat mower its use in fields also but this is crazy fields at beast to say it rightly
Grass is too tall, going to fast, too low of a cutting height on first pass, and bogging the mower down due to blowing the cut grass back into the uncut grass forcing the mower to have to work harder and slowing the blade tip speed down, which causes horrible looking results, uncut areas, and the mower isn't built for that type of work...its a lawn mower, not a field mower...once its cut down to height if its mowed weekly it wouldn't be an issue in the future though...but on the first cut, since he's mowing with the deck at desired height on first pass, it'll leave a lot of uncut areas, its normal for all mowers to do that when mowing heavy and tall grass/weeds....but compounded due to reasons above.
Man you're loading down the motor way to much! You need to cut half that height first, then as it dries out, hit it a bit lower. That motor is going to overheat on you. Try sharping those blades as well. "It no how fast you mow, It's how you mow fast"!!
That mower is undersized for the job. You need a tractor with a bush hog mower. Also you need to stop blowing cut grass onto uncut grass. When you do that the mower has twice the volume and has to work twice as hard. Lift the blade also as you are cutting too low.
and flip up that discharge shoot. Drive around in a big square making left turns to discharge out on mowed grass. You could cut a path parralell to that sidewalk to avoid discharging on sidewalk then later just mow the edge left discharging inward. You were doing it the hard way in tall grass.
I was not impressed with the John Deere Zero Turn. The levels were uneven and you mowed it too close. You also threw cut grass over onto uncut grass making it more difficult for the machine to cut the heavy stuff (evident by hearing the machine bog way down.) Maybe next time on fields like this you could cut a little taller and pull the chute back to allow the grass to be dispersed over a wider range plus going completely around the perimeter so as to allow the grass to blow away from the uncut grass. I didn't mean to sound harsh, just my observations.
Just a little tip 😉 drill a hole at the end of the chute deflector some where in the middle and attach a bungycord to it so you can lift it up it helps in tull grass and drop it when you need to.
As a commercial mower, we just take the chute off the machines the day we buy them. We also have grass flaps on machines.
Did you watch the video from the beginning?.
I leave mine up all the time. With a bungee cord. Better discharge and no build up or clumps.

Cut long grass in a square pattern, keep the discharge to the outside, that way your not re-cutting the thick already cut grass a second time
And he should have raised the the guard up.
Exactly what I was going to say because it’s certainly not going to stripe lol
Exactly. If not not gonna be striped who cares. Sometimes I’ll go over it again just to break up the chunks of cut grass to thin them out.
I highly doubt he doesn't know that ,really ....working with any lawnmower ,small or large ,u learn that stuff in first 5 minutes.I could only guess he wanted to cut grass 2 times because dull blades didn't cut it enough small.

Get it all mowed, then bring in a rake a small baler. It looks thick enough to bake. May not get much in the way of quantity.
