We like horror movies bc they make us feel more alive than any other genre. It gets all our senses working. It gets our adrenaline pumping. All your senses become on edge. Same reason ppl like to hike, climb mountains, skydive, bunjie jump, scuba dive etc…
I've heard someone say this before
I literally just had this conversation with my mom last night. She doesn’t like that feeling of adrenaline because her anxiety is bad enough already, but I love it.
And Sinister blows away the competition according to Screen Rant. They listed it as the scariest movie of all-time based on all of the things you mentioned.
horror movies have some of the best personal, tragic stories and the best atmosphere
I've always had the thought that horror movies tend to have some of the best stories
“You don’t pay me enough for this… he doesn’t pay me at all… I’m tortured for free” hilarious 😂
The sound design in this movie is practically a character itself. It’s so good.
Agree it’s so well done, i feel nauseous every time I watch it
@@Luvandrockettes Just listen to the band called Ulver and the song is called Silence Teaches You How to Sing. Its 24:05 and thsi movie uses most of that song as the soundtrack. Check it out
Listen to the music score it's worth it
Even better, look up the black metal musicians making these sinister sounds… Ulver and the like. 😅
Yeah, that gave me chills!
The sound design in this movie is unbelievable. Every little tune or music in the movie is so unnerving and deserves a ridiculous amount of recognition. When I saw this in the theater the garage home video made me so uncomfortable, it was the first time I got that sort of reaction from a horror movie.
The bands they used for the soundtrack are the cream of the crop in what they are doing. Specifically Ulver and SUNN ((O))
And Ulver have such a vast and diverse discography, if you want to check them, you'll find everything between Pink Floyd, The Doors, through black metal to doom and drone... an impressive band, to say the least.
I agree. Check out the black metal musicians making these sinister sounds… like Ulver. Though I was a bit disappointed to find only one album of his that was this dark… maybe too diverse.
The fact that she kept saying to leave the house but leaving was the thing that killed them, Baghuul only goes after people after they move.
That's what happens when you're disassociating with a movie so much you don't actually pay attention to what's going on.
@@SubterrelProspector That's why she was literally unbearable to listen to whining the whole freaking movie.
@@darensparkswhat are you two shitidiots talking about
@@SubterrelProspectori mean it wasn’t revealed until the very end - so how would she have known lmao.
Almost makes you wonder if they’d survive and be just fine if they’d stayed in the house 😅
Alanda Parker, who does a lot of horror movie reactions, said this in her “It Follows” reaction video:
“One thing that I always say about horror is that it allows us to contextualize anguish in a way that we can reason; it gives us the comfort of a beginning, a middle, and an end to anything terrible that we might be experiencing in the moment and that can be very cathartic.”
To answer your question why we watch movies like this:
A rollercoaster is objectively less safe than standing on the ground but much more than strapping on a parachute and jumping out of a plane. Some people want to have a thrill without a serious risk. And also, like spicy food, the more you take in the more desensitized you get so you’d need ever more intense installments to get the same thrill. Other people like to see worst case examples of horrific circumstance to imagine how they would react and what they should do to avoid similar pitfalls in real life. Remember, the first fairy tales were scary stories and they were meant as cautionary tales to teach the innocent what to avoid and how to survive various circumstances.
100%. It also contextualizes our personal horror (anger, fear, sadness, etc.) in a way that gives us an outlet and also an “ending” (of the movie) to put all of that mental stuff away for a while. It’s like reverse escapism - we embrace that stuff DURING the movie so we can put it away after the movie.
💯🎯
Very good points.
To add to this, I haven't watched something that's actually scared me since I was like 14 and that was an episode of the nightmare on elm street series of all things. lmao
This movie is very well known for one of the notable jumpscares in horror with that lawnmower scene
It wasn't a jumpscare. That's not what you call a jumpscare. That was something you kinda expected to see but still it's just disturbing.
@@xXturbo86Xx It's still a jumpscare. I saw this movie on opening night back in October of 2012 and the whole theater audience jumped when that happened. If that's not a jumpscare in your eyes than I dont know what is lol.
face, yes, it's just such a shame that the Mrs. missed it.
What I find most remarkable about the lawnmower scene is that it showed zero gore, the whole thing was sold by the sound design and Ethan Hawke’s reaction.
@@AutoPilate true, I jumped on that jump scare. and this message may scare you too, or give you relief. for those going through the comments, I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God will not allow sinners in heaven; in His presence, because He is holy. so, God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is severe and just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps:
1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost.
2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell).
3. believe that Jesus (who is God) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins.
4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven (nor a combination of your faith and self-righteous works).
5. pray to God NOW that you're accepting Christ's free gift of salvation because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🥵😈
6. and to be a disciple, tell people about Jesus, read the bible, go to church regularly to know God's will for your life.
Mrs. Movies is a true crime detective. She figures out these movies in .07 seconds flat
Hahaha she gets me everytime! Her sleuthing skills are top tier!
Seriously! So impressive
Yeah it's not a good characteristic 😂
She got her theories of the deputy wrong.
Yeah, there's something less enjoyable about a reaction when the reactor figures the movie out, imo of course. I'll still like & comment bc I'm a fan of them but I also comb through the comments to see if this happens because I won't want to watch if it does 🤷♂️
You've heard people after near-death experiences say "I've never felt more alive" afterwards. That feeling of dread and impending doom reset a mental marker that reminds us life is fleeting and should be appreciated every possible second. Scary movies are simply a vehicle to trigger that part of our psyche in a safe, fictional way.
13 yr old me was so confident she loved horror movies and then I saw this one and realized I did not. Thanks for reminding me why this movie still scares me so much.
Lol, the same happened to me!
When the grounding stones are involved you know the Mrs. is trying to calm her anxiety. And yes i heard a thump check your house! 😳
Saw this in the theatre.
That very last jumpscare, before the silence, some guy up front ripped the loudest fear-fart I've ever heard in my life.
Good times.
Fear fart!?! That’s a new one for me and it made my day to read this comment.
@@MrsMovies Glad to be of service! lmao
Everyone screamed, and the fart was heard above it all.
Love you guys, and love the reactions!
😂
Early in the movie, Ethan Hawker’s character is wearing a Bennington College tee shirt, the same shirt that Jack Nicholson wears in The Shining…
Only the Bennington man will pass
Mrs. Movies saying the whole movie "Leave the house". Me knowing that leaving the house is what gets them killed 😢
43:43 This is how I laugh when I get take-out delivered & realise the order is messed up after they're long gone...😂😂😂
Mrs. Movies is too much of a whiner for me. She became obnoxious
@@nancyhamilton2647 I think it's mainly the kid aspect that makes her squeamish about this one.
I love the opening shot and she’s just like “great”
I saw this in the theater and thought at the time this was the scariest movie I had seen in a while. Personally, I think it could’ve been better without the dead kids running around with the CGI makeup but other than that pretty solid horror.
Exactly. The 2nd half is SO disappointing. The first half is just short of a masterpiece in true horror.
this movie isnt scary at all lol
I agree, the threat is more scary if it's unseen. It's when our imagination runs wild when we spook ourselves!
Also the name Baghul sounds stupid, not to mention the demon looks like one of the guys from slipknot, they definitely could've done a better job on that front.
@@bloodaxis yeah, he looked like a member of the band.
Poor Mrs., her whole constitution changes and she gets angry when the film threatens children.
Fun fact, the majority of the songs from the shorts are from the 20 minute song, Silence Teaches You How to Sing by Ulver. Great reaction, per usual!
I do love Mrs. Movie's reactions for movies like this, they really make the video. But in this case, had the family stayed in the house, I don't think the curse would have moved on. But the creepy stuff would have continued.
I think it would've escalated until they thought they just had to move.
@@Gigglingsiren Hopefully by that time the deputy would have filled them in and they would've got the daughter checked into some kind of facility so she doesn't murder anyone. Then you just see Bughuul frowning with his arms crossed.
@@julius-stark I would've LOVED to have seen that.
Great reactions! Bravo and brava. I feel for Mrs. Movies, but appreciate that she hung in there. Sinister is one of those deeply disturbing and unnerving movies. I thought it was a little heavy handed with the ghost children running around. For me less is more. Quintessential horror and a fun watch if you like horror movies. That's why we watch and enjoy horror, for the thrills , the adrenaline rush and watching our friends reactions to it. 🙂
First... my hat goes off to Mrs. Cowboy Movies. This is not an easy watch. Extremely creepy stuff, she hung in there and took it like a trooper. Second, my hat goes off to Raining Madness. To get these two to watch one of the creepiest movies on our list was an achievement. Patreon style but still a good job. Our duo seemed to chicken out ever since Descent and The Conjuring franchise. And eased off the truly horror or creepy. My opinion of course. But still I understand cuz they have a family. The good news is that our duo got thru Sinister relatively unscathed. The bad news is that there is a sequel to this. Have a good day folks.
Thanks, I rewatched a ton of horror movies this summer to make my selection. I think I accomplished my goal of scaring the heck out of her haha@@mcentepede
@@rainingmadness129 That you did. This one's not an easy watch for anyone. Let alone our dynamic Cowboy duo.
@@rainingmadness129 well then, this will scare you but there's hope. I've got good news. Hail Satan@@ROBERTPUNU
Don't think I've ever seen the Mrs this scared before 😆
Should check out our reaction to The Descent….that one had me more scared I think. Or at least more jumpy.
Watch their reaction for Pet Sematary. Not only was she scared as hell, she was horrified, and so passed that she wanted to stop watching the movie. (To be fair, that scene can be Extremely traumatizing 😬)
Feel like the comically cheap jump scare at the end helps you not get anxiety/nightmares from the otherwise very disturbing movie. How thoughtful.
So here's a nifty observation for ya! Mrs Movies' reluctance to watch, using peripheral vision, through her fingers, etc., is common among horror movie audiences. So much so that perhaps it's an instinctive thing within the human race, a protective measure against... something? What if the info given by Vincent D'Onofrio, that Bughuul ('Mr Boogie') propagates himself via images, is the reason for that behavior?
AND consider that the writer C. Robert Cargill says that his inspiration for Sinister came from a nightmare that HE experienced after seeing _The Ring (2002),_ and that in his nightmare, Cargill himself discovers a film in his attic depicting the hanging of an entire family.
Pleasant dreams.... 😎
I've always loved the thrill of horror movies. My grandma was a horror fan too and was always reading Stephen King so we would watch scary movies together when I was younger. I'd get all jumpy and hop behind the couch and peek out from behind it. She would ask if it was too scary and offer to turn it off but I always said no. I always watched them to the end and they never gave me nightmares. In hindsight, I think seeing them through to the end and seeing how the monster or evil was defeated gave me the resolution to not dwell on them and give me nightmares. I really enjoyed the tense atmosphere of this one. Nothing too complicated, didn't over-do it with the gore, and a good use of the creepy kids trope. Happy Spooky Season! Glad you soldiered through. Cyber-hugs from New Mexico.
P.S. Great movie to Not have the kids home for...maybe more for your sake this time. lol
i really like this movie bc of the craft behind all the snuff films like theyre all real stunts shot on 8mm film. i think it adds to the eeriness bc its realistic. plus the score is so creepy too
Yes, the Oswalds were entirely dedicated to conserving electricity.
I love that you guys watched it! This movie gave me chills! When I watched it for the first time, I had goosebumps and fear for one week!
I wonder: could an exorcist save Ellison's family in this movie?
The music in this movie is really good. Makes so many scenes scary and freaky.
It was done by the black metal band Ulver.
I totally heard something upstairs when Mrs movies heard something upstairs
Police officer dude is Ziggy from The Wire!
Edit: Mrs. Movies caught that immediately.
Bagul always reminds me of Mick Thomson with his mask on. (The guitarist of Slipknot)
No matter how many times I see this movie, it always scares the crap out of me lol. So excited to see your reaction!
its not even scary
that lawnmower scene is beautiful
Thank you so much Mrs. Movies for watching scary movies for us!
You’re welcome, it’s how I show my love and appreciation for all of you. Torture myself.
@@MrsMovies And for that we are eternally grateful! lol! :)
In the beginning of this movie-- You're glad your kids aren't around so they don't interrupt you.......By the end of this movie--You're glad your kids aren't around so there's no risk of them murdering you lmao
Which of the two baby girl Movies are Mr. and Mrs. Movies gonna be lookin' at side-eyed after this? Better keep an eye out for a green glow in all your drinks and food.
her looking away is hilarious 😂
I saw a comment once about how slow a death the main family would have to face. It’s a little kid lifting a giant axe - they’d definitely feel it :(((
Everytime Mrs movies says to leave the house I chuckle🤣
In her defense they are watching AHS S1 which IS a haunted house 😂
@@Wraiven22 she just cracks me up 😂
7:08 "family HANGING out" 😂😂😂😂😂
the more often you get scared at movies, the more desensitized you'll get. that's a positive!
Looks like Alpha Bits were discontinued 2 years ago. They've been gone from my region (Georgia) for decades, though.
So sad
I think in the Shining film...the kids were not aware of what they were filming a horror film.
“Have you seen the popcorn ceilings??” 😂😂
Man I saw this in theater and I made a noise that I can't replicate lol.
Wes Craven read an article about an asian kid that had been complaining about having horrible nightmares and then died in his sleep. He also saw a man that looked like Freddy outside his window as a child that freaked him out. These two things inspired the NOES movies.
Sitting here scrolling through yoyr channel trying to find the comp I was watching and thought I was legit losing my mind and then it hit me... Two channels. 😂😭
She's not a risk taker. She's a heart breaker.
29:53 Even if you've not seen this film, you know this part.
I'm kinda an old school guy. To me, THE EXCORCIST still rains supreme. That being said, I love this movie. I always watch horror movies in the dark. I think it gives an added feel to fright . This movie gave me an EXCORCIST kind of feeling. Enjoy!
By FAR the best reaction vid uv done! Loving it!!
people said ethan hawke looks genuinely freaked out throughout the film..he does..but he has been acting since like 1984 lol... he does look scared tho the way he jumps
out of all the movies I wanted Mrs to see. This is one of them 😄
I have my bingo card ready. There’s a block of her praying, her saying no, no, no; her saying get out of that house(jokes on her there)
I love horror movies because it makes my own life seem so much less scary lmao. It’s an overwhelming sense of “at least this isn’t me!” mixed in with the safe exploration of all of the things we avoid that are under the surface all around us.
(Oct 30, 2023)
15:44 43:00 46:55 47:23
Yes insane to be hearing creepy noises but to never turn a light on 😂
Along these lines, might want to watch " Malignant" or " It Follows"
Two of my favorites.
I feel like they would probably hate malignant, it’s a very confusing movie for the first hour or so, but yes please on both!
@@Wraiven22 one of my favorites. The twist is really creepy considering it's happened and is a thing. Not to the super extreme as in the movie, but necessary to add the horror elements. Great horror movie.
I joked about autographing the movies then I saw Mr. Movies actually say it. It’d honestly be pretty cool merch for the fans.
Love your content. Your reactions are priceless (especially the 'I'll just look SLIGHTLY away from the screen and zone out with vacant eyes' method you used to get to your happy place during particularly scary sequences! And also, VERY impressed that you used 'hanged' properly, going so far as to correct the actress who used 'hung" improperly!!
I wonder: could an exorcist save Ellison's family in this movie?
25:25 there was definitely something upstairs.
I remember how terrifying this movie was to me initially. Upon first watch, the idea that Baghuul would interact out of the movies (like turning his head or disappearing from frame) made me scared to see his face ANYWHERE
Luckily for Mrs. Movies, even though she believes in those things doesn’t change the fact that they don’t exist. So she’s safe :)
Ditch the safety pillows guys! Lol the Mrs watched 10% of the movie and 90% wall, ceiling and floor 😂
In my humble opinion, this is a flawed, but overall enjoyable movie that's overrated by some and under appreciated by others. The best aspect of this for me was the soundtrack to the home videos. Very effective music.
Getting the same movie from both my favourite reaction channels on the same day?!? I love October. 😂❤
i feel like reaction channels always watch all the movies at the same time
Mr. Movie: Is it the predator?
Me: I mean, it's "A" predator....
I love that shirt that the mrs. Is wearing. Reminds me of the good ol' days.
I've been a horror fan since I was a kid in the 80s. Jump scares rarely get a blink from me. I usually just enjoy the creativity and story. This one had me spooked though. It was great! 😂 It's such a great movie all the way around. It's still creepy when I watch it again. I enjoyed Sinister 2 as well even though it gets blasted by some, but you can't repeat that kind of movie magic.
Fun reaction, some excellent comments dealing with the stress 😂
49:23 Thats what i always thought about.. even adult actors that get into a character really deep (mostly Psychotic) end up mentally depressed or lost in reality.. i cant imagine how a childs mind would be..
The facial expressions in this one were superb :-)
Every person ever who watches a horror movie about a haunted house tells the family to get out of there asap for safety, and this director thought "what if I made the safe thing to do the one that actually causes their death?" and created this movie. The whole movie, we beg for the family to leave, an we're actually pushing them to their death. It's really subverting the genre.
That’s a genius ending
@@brandonkashinsky9222 I agree!
When I watched this movie for the first time I was so pleased to hear music from aghast. Dark eerie ambient. This movie still makes me uncomfy after seeing it multiple times and im a die-hard horror addict.
The whole gritty vhs family memories kinda vibe that switches over to slaughter is just *chefs kiss*
04:37 💀
09:58 wow you knew that!
10:47 agree
14:58 lol
17:04 lol 🤣🤣🤣
19:44 Mr Movies so brave lol
25:44 this mr boogie is way too strong to do that
28:49 true lol
33:32 too late
38:00 🤣🤣🤣
41:42 i don't exorcist can handle this...... mr boogie is way too strong
Snakes can still climb, I had one in my attic a couple months ago. I know the character was saying snakes don't have feet because the author heard footsteps.
Yeah, I cant explain it because nothing in this film is scary on it's own, with maybe the exception of the shorts themselves. Yet this is one of the few films that genuinely scared me, and still creeps me out every rewatch. I wish it landed the ending better, but damn great horror film.
This movie is so cool! I'm glad you're watching it, enjoy!
PS: You guys should really watch The exorcism of Emily Rose (same director, 2005)
I didn't know supernatural elements were your weak spot, think you should check out 'The Wailing' from S. Korea, it takes it up a notch on the genre, I'd say
Perfect for family movie night for Halloween 😆 LOL 🎃 👻 😱
The Mrs calling it in like ten minutes. She amazes me lol
Mrs. Movies Has A Good Eye James Ransone Is In The Wire, It Chapter2 , The Black Phone, And This Series!
What does Mrs Movies have in her hands? I'm guessing they're for when she's scared 😅 I feel like they would be good for anxiety too ❤
They are Smokey quartz stones. They help keep me feeling grounded and protected.
We like scary movies because our body once in a while actually needs the chemicals our brain releases when we are scared. We've removed ourselves from the food chain so movies, games and rollercoasters are a safe way to enjoy fear. Fear is healthy.
Mrs. really turned this into an audiobook by how much she was looking away 😂
"please, be a puppy" is the best response lol
This and Insidious are literally some of the most scary movies I have seen.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I thought "She is going to HATE this".
I watch plenty of horror. I saw this film for the first time, just a couple of weeks ago, and I had nightmares for the next few nights.
You know what this means of course..... you have to watch the 2nd one with Deputy So & So.....
Could I suggest you watch (even if only for yourselves) John Carpenter's "Vampires", it is really fun. Great reaction!
This made me want Mrs. Movies to see the Mandela Catalogue. Not a movie but definitely horror media and definitely something that would get under the skin lol
i just realised that when the scorpion got squished it showed the symbol of the pagan deity
Idk how young I was when I watched it but I always thought it was a cult, and never realized until now that it is actually what scares me the most: supernatural ish... New fear unlocked for sure
I don't think mrs movies knows how funny she is love you guys and your channel
Sinister 2 is actually pretty good, and answer lots of questions from the part 1 and in my opinion is a very good sequel with the character development, and character story
I know Mrs. Movies isn't a fan of the scary films, but it is fun to watch her react. I'm not generally phased by them, but this one is on the short list of phasing. I can watch gory goof all day long, but the 8mm film bits seem too real. Realistic evil is always scarier than spooks specters or ghosts. This is one of the few exceptions. It feels real... Similarly... 1408, The Others, or the Sixth Sense. They all got me a bit, but realistic horror is always worse. The Strangers might be at the top of that list...
Post took Alpha-Bits off the market in 2006, but you can still find it online, though people say it doesn't taste the same.
How rude, taking away a childhood classic, also educational.
Omg remember watching this n scared to stupid 😂 it be a pleasure to watch it again with you lovely people 🤗 🇬🇧
