Dispatch - "The General" [Russian Version]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 кві 2022
- Dispatch show their support for Ukraine with the re-release of anti-war anthem “The General” in Russian. The hope is that this will reach the ears of those participating in this invasion and realize that this fight is not worth fighting. To force someone to act against humanity is to destroy their own humanity. Please share this message of peace far and wide.

English Lyrics:
There was a decorated general with a heart of gold
That likened him to all the stories he told
Of past battles won and lost
And legends of old
A seasoned veteran in his own time
On the battlefield he gained respectful fame
With many metals of bravery and stripes to his name
He grew a beard as soon as he could to cover the scars on his face
And always urged his men on
But on the eve of a great battle with the infantry in dream
The Old General tossed in his sleep and wrestled with its meaning
He awoke from the night just to tell what he had seen
And walked slowly out of his tent
All the men held tall with their chests in the air
With courage in their blood and a fire in their stare
It was a grey morning and they all wondered how they would fare
Til the old general told them to go home
I have seen the others
And I have discovered
That this fight is not worth fighting
I have seen their mothers
And I will no other to follow me where I'm going
Take a shower shine your shoes
You got no time to lose
You are young men you must be living
Go now you are forgiven
But the men stood fast with their guns on their shoulders
Not knowing what to do with the contradicting orders
The General said he would do his own duty bout would not extend it not further
The men could go as they pleased
Not a man moved their eyes glazed straight ahead
Til one by one they stepped back and not a word was said
And the old general was left with his own words echoing in his head
He then prepared to fight
I have seen the others and I have discovered that this fight is not worth fighting
I have seen their mothers and I will no other to follow me where I'm going
Take a shower shine your shoes you got no time to lose
You are young men you must be living
Go now you are forgiven
Ya got to be got to got be to got to be hey

Damn guys... this is our favorite song, we used to sing at every party with all of my friends. I live in Moscow. It was always my dream to visit Dispatch concert in Moscow some day. I even tried to invite you here in comments once.. And now this.. I'm astonished! We all hope all this will soon come to an end. Still hope to meet you live. And your Russian is awesome.
Georgy-- how can we get this video shared in Russia? Any ideas??
I did not expect to hear Russian speech here, it turned out pretty nice. Although I am from Ukraine, Russian is my native language, and it is very pleasant to listen to it
P.s. The lyrics of the song are very touching, I read the description and it became very warm in my soul)
I normally hate celebrities trying to say some cringey shit about the war in Ukraine, but this is actually quite excellent. It's abundantly clear you put a tremendous amount of effort into doing something meaningful with this timeless classic. Maybe I'm biased as a long time fan, but this is very well done.
There always 2 sides to a coin..and sometimes one of the sides are counterfeit. We pray for peace...but that didn't go so well the last decade.
Many of us in the states are tired of the BS. Sadly on both sides. But also the same on the part of both sides ate still persuaded. By almost everything. Pied Piper, Pavlov's Dog or a Cat Chasing a Laser Pointer.
One distraction after the next. Nothing can be cringier though that TikToks for Vaxxies.
Do they have other countries in other languages doing the crazy 5i's Versions?
Peace ✌
It's a song that always applies to war, but especially strong for the Russian aggression, where they are sending their young sons to die by the thousands each month for absolutely nothing.
I’m an old soldier. Just raising my boys. This song has always moved me. Didn’t know it would have the same effect in a different language. Wish there was a way to express the way certain songs move you. Thank you sir
I think I'm one of the few Russians who knows and listens to your band. You are one of those bands thanks to which I continue love music and do it myself. I like to play your songs on the guitar and tell my friends about you. Wish you more creative ideas and success and a peaceful sky over your head. With love from Russia =). And thank you for this gift, if I may say so
Alex, any ideas how we can get this song shared in Russia? And is UA-cam still available there?
@@danieljkellison yes, youtube is still available and what about the popularity of Dispatch in Russia... To be honest, Idk, I think whoever is looking for good indie-folk music will find this band)
Alex, how was Chad's Russian? From the untrained ear, he did really good!
@@CompGeekDE Russian language is undoubtedly very difficult to pronounce and even more to sing for Englisg-speaking person, in addition to the accent, Chad sometimes sang the wrong vowels, but compared to the fact that he did such a lot of work on this song, it's a trifle, it turned out very cool anyway
Thanks Alex! My translator said she wish we had a month to refine my accent:)
Great idea -- a great song with a powerful message. I pray for the people of Ukraine but also for the soldiers who have discovered the fight is not worth fighting. I hope this reaches all Russians.
This gives me chills. This song hits the same no matter the language..you can feel the compassion and message.
Maybe even more when you slow it down.
way to put this out there! the universe needs more dispatch.
I am from Ukraine.
And you have funny American accent. But song is very good.
Our hearts go out to you. I will work on my accent.
@@DISPATCHOFFICIAL he is so wrong! Your accent is pretty good))
@@DISPATCHOFFICIAL your accent is what makes this so great and unique though, clean russian would just sound too boring.
Falling in love with The General all over again, 25 years later. Loving the new space you're in, looks great! Can't wait to see you guys this summer. Thanks for raising your voices in support of those who need it.
As a native Russian speaker, this was an excellent attempt. Can’t wait to see you guys live again !
How close is the translation? I was surprised that most it still rhymed or even fit within the rhythmic structure of the song. I cant imagine its a word for word translation.
@@tangibleplanetvisualmedia1138 The translation is very good, there are a lot of beautiful literary words that you don’t often see even in the music of the Russian performers themselves
@@alexgora1362 interesting! I wonder how long it took him to memorize that, unless he happens to speak Russian already.
@@tangibleplanetvisualmedia1138 Looks like he has notecards or poster board over the right and left sides of the camera. His eyes shift from first verse to chorus. The question I have is what's written on them. In Russian characters or spelled out in phonetic English?
@@jmgand01 Phonetic English. There's a Rolling Stone article where they show a picture. UA-cam doesn't allow me to post the link here 😖
Wow. Did you ever think this song would see such a relevant moment in history during your lifetime? Your work has inspired me so many times through the years. Thank you. I hope the fighting ends soon.
Man, one of my all time favorite songs. This definitely brought tears to my eyes. Peace and Love for all.
Holy crap, Chad. That is amazing. I hope it gets heard around the world. Can't wait to see this summer's shows.
Wow. I love you guys. This song has definitely aged incredibly well. If only all would listen and truly understand these words. You are young men and must be living. Go now, you are forgiven.
This song always gives me chills. Such a powerful message and given the situation between Russia and Ukraine adds so much more meaning than it already had. Thanks for the listen, been a while since I heard songs from the older albums!
"I found, it is the small things. Everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay." Gandalf.
Thank you!
Brilliant. Your continued dedication to a universal message does not go overlooked.
Thank you Chad. And thank you Olga for the translation.
Olga was amazing!
I love that there's a video to watch along with the audio. Had chills seeing and hearing your emotion. Excellent job.
The first time I read the lyrics of this song it made me cry. After years of singing it just reading the words along with it bring so much emotion to me. Now that I'm almost 30 I get so much more from this song than I did when I first heard it.
Love your neighbors, borders are man made and love is not.
One of the best songs of it's time! Let it see a new time!
Wow! That was amazing. So happy you did this. Please play this when we come to see you guys on August 25! Just purchased tickets.
So glad to see people acknowledging the thousands of Russians who are out there disagreeing and protesting whats being done by their leaders. And to those same Russians in the comments - I really admire you. You're braver than anyone who speaks against you
@dispatch I like the tone of that chunky rattling yamaha !
Thank you Chetro for the effort and attention, beautiful re-release of a wonderful, impactful song! Hope this spreads far and wide - your message belongs in everyone's minds! Thanks for always fighting the good fight.
This amazing song has been translated to Russian in the hopes that those that understand it can contribute to ending the unjust war by Russia in Ukraine. As he said 25 years ago and repeats now, “I’ve seen their mothers...this fight is not worth fighting.”
Whether they are truly only fighting for the east. There is a lot more to what was going on in that region. On paper it can sound noble, but we will only know in the end if this was only about liberation and not just resources or a distractive war to enable all countries to make more destructive massive weapons.
No matter where there is war, it's always the citizens that have it the worst.
I've been listening to you guys since the "One Fell Swoop" days (I still have that CD!) and this just blows my mind. This is one of my all time favorite Dispatch songs and hearing it in Russian for this occasion is just amazing. I can't wait to see you guys in Charlotte!
Awesome. Send this around the world.
Still awesome in another language - even live -- thanks for coming to Cleveland~
Thank you for this beautiful message of compassion in such complicated times. Big fan from Boston. Much Love to you and all.
@dispatch Wow, thanks. I am so glad you guys are still out there. This song was the first song of yours I heard in 2002. It's so beautiful in Russian. Thanks for the time and love you put into this.
Wow
Every single day i convinced in fact that music can unite us, make us love eachother, every one of us can solve at least a half of or troubles with music, just becouse we want to live in peace
Thanks for the song, thanks for the translation, and for all what y'all doing for us!
This is incredibly impressive.
Потрясающе!
Exellent!
Kwai Nijia ~ This is so powerful and brought tears to my eyes. I love that so many Russians know Dispatch and you are able to reach across the world to touch their hearts. Music has the ability to move us in so many different directions, it has the ability to heal us inspire us and even change us. we all have gifts it is when we use those gifts for the greater good that they truly shine. Many great musicians like Bob Marley John Lennon and so many more including Dispatch have used their music to raise awareness of important issues and causes. It is beautiful and gives us hope! much love Nijia
I’ve always loved this song but with everything going on and your retelling in Russian, I find myself connected to the tale in a deeper way then I ever have before. Brings a tear to my eye, the beauty of the message juxtaposed to all that’s ugly in the world currently
Wow. Beautiful classic song, now with a new powerful meaning. I’m blown away. Thank you.
I hope after the war we can all go to an anti-war concert with you playing, where people from Russia standing for peace all this time now can hug their Ukrainian brothers and sisters.
Thank you from Moscow! Great to see that my favourite musician from so far away sees what's happening. Thank you for being so supportive!
Was listening to the original so many times as this conflict was heating up and wanting to sing it at the top of my lungs... this is incredible
Always loved you. So grateful that you did this.
This is amazing Chad, I’m going to share it with all the Ukrainian colleagues I work with.
I literally listened to this song last night thinking about the war and then I found out you did this. Damn
So needed. Bless you 🙏
Wonderful, thanks for sharing.
Absolutely incredible. I remember hearing this song 20 years ago and here it is, again, in all its glory, but in a foreign yet such fluently language and with the same purpose.
Chad, this is incredible! Well done!
Love this so much!! I’ve shared it with my friends in Poland and on all of my social media!! I know Russians are censored but I hope somehow they hear this song!!
Perfect. Spacibo.
holy crap how long did it take you to learn?
Great idea. Thank you, Chad. How can we get this shared in Russia?
I’m gonna echo a fellow fan’s sentiment. A super hero using his powers for good... Well done Chad. Looking forward to seeing you this summer.
If I could give 2 thumbs up, I would! Bravo!
This is freakin’ awesome👏👏
Never heard of you 👏👏👏
This is so perfectly done and so relevant. I love it!
This is incredible! Well done my friend!
Great job, hopefully this ends the war in...One Fell Swoop.
Can't wait to see you in Wilmington.
One of my favorite jam songs about how unnecessary fighting/war should be. A general who cares about their troops. If only these existed today…
"Deta vac prostele" means "Child you are forgiven" in Russian...it sounds like that's what he sings at the end. Incredible.
👍👍👍 must go viral!
Wow! Just wow. What a great idea. Hopefully this will go viral.
Excellent
Beautifully done. Bravo!
Love it! This song is one of my favorites
I’m crying 30 seconds in. I love the implications of this, love your heart. Did you speak any Russian at all prior to this?
No,, fascinating language..
@@DISPATCHOFFICIAL That is so incredibly impressive! Your enunciation is very good! I will share this everywhere I can. I have been a big fan of y’all for at least 10 years, and to see such passion is so inspiring. 💜
What an amazing soul!
Awesome. Thank you.
I was at the Hatch Shell concert and it was a glorious day, show, and the performance of The General was the perfect ending.
Wouldn't have thought 18 years later it would emerge in such different context...
He said, "I have seen the others
And I have discovered
That this fight is not worth fighting.
Yes,...GO NOW
BUT Unfortunately the war criminals in RU ordering these atrocities and those carrying out horrific brutality will not be forgiven..
Neither will the Nazi battalions be forgiven for their bombing of civilians in Donbas, for the children they killed, the people the burned alive in Odessa.
but it is about how foot soldiers who are forced into war roles shall be forgiven for going home and not fighting the war that does not benefit them but the rich and powerful.
my heart goes out to everyone in Ukraine who if suffering because of one man's greed and arrogance, and there are Russians suffering from it too. Stay safe.
@@TheChronicKarma blaming this all on one man washes the wrong doings and the provocations of US/NATO and Ukrainian officias. It really goes to show how privileged and oblivious westerners are until the mainstream media spoon feeds it to you. When did you care about any of the Russian speaking Ukrainians that were getting bombed and harassed for the last 8 years ? Where were you when Ukraine cut off clean water to crimea ? Where were you when Ukrainian nationalist burned 30 communist activist alive at the trade union building in Odessa ? Stay informed.
@@saus17 yes you are right, this is all Ukraine's fault, definitely not Putin or Russia's fault at all. /s
The US is absolutely terrible but your comment history reads like a Russian bot farm.
@@TheChronicKarma seems as though your incapable of addressing my talking points. Instead resort to calling me a “Russian bot” even if I was a Russian bot, can you debunk or rebuttal my “Russian talking points” ??
Never said Russia isn’t at fault or that they are doing something terrible and wrong. I’m saying you need to understand the nuance of the situation before you assert your bias, poorly informed, western privileged comments on such issues that you don’t know about. Thank you
RERELEASE HEADLIGHTS!
I need a live version with a video!
This is amazing, very hard to get a song to work in another language, might be more influential than the original version if the right people listen and really understand the words.
There is a song by a band called kino a Russian band from the 70s and 80s that has a song like this. Look it up if you want
awesome! #peace
Much love to Russia and Ukraine from America. I hope you find the peace in these times of war
I didn’t know my man is a fellow Slavic. My dad’s people are from Stockton & Sacramento & as I recently found out are Ukrainian.
I like the fact he went authentic full Rasputin with the hairstyle , nice brah.
Thank you, Dispatch.
🙏
Gorgeous, well done my friend
Mind Blowing, and Beautiful…
