From what I remember in a podcast (if Im wrorng, sorry), this was one of the first music pieces from Destiny that Marty presented to the dev team. It influenced the team's decision to switch from a medieval fantasy RPG theme to a science fiction game, and the rest is history. I can't recall the exact name of the podcast, but he was talking this with a woman about these things, and played this same track there, before various prototype songs were unfortunately censored in his channel, which is quite sad. Glad there are still some copies out there c:
Kate Remington's "Music Respawn" podcast! She's also interviewed Mike and Skye about Destiny music (and me, actually). She's a dear friend and you should go check out some of her other episodes, all centered on video game music. And yes, The Great Unknown was the first piece of Destiny music ever written, all the way back in August 2009. Various versions made their way into early Destiny builds (all based on the same original recording, very little was changed). The chant was later recorded at Abbey Road in 2012 as part of Music of the Spheres. -Atlyx
It doesn't matter how many times Destiny has been criticized over the years and still is today, but in one area this game has ABSOLUTELY NEVER disappointed and that is the soundtrack of this game to this day! The music of Destiny is simply breathtaking!
I love the early unreleased pieces for D1 so much
