    Toyota bZ4x Long Term Report:
    www.electrifying.com/long-ter...
    Tom is always recommending Toyotas as he knows they are unbreakable. But then he managed to break one…
    He’s running is the Vision all-wheel drive with a 71.4kWh battery. When it’s cold, the range show 170 miles, which is more than 100 miles less than the official range and 2.4 miles per kWh.
    But unlike some so-called soft roaders, the bZ4X has some proper off road ability. It’s no Land Cruiser, but if you need a bit more grip then it’s much more competent than you might expect.
    That 4WD also means you get an extra motor which is also fun when it isn’t muddy. Unlike other cars (including the Lexus version of the bZ4X), Toyota hasn’t made the AWD version more powerful - the two motors together produce just 215bhp. That’s plenty in reality and good enough for a surprisingly fast 6.9 second 0-60 time, but a far cry from the 507bhp of
    an AWD Tesla Model Y.
    Tom also loves the solid feel of the interior and the way the Toyota drives, but he has found some of the tech infuriating and the bZ4X has a habit of talking to itself. The design of the interior is a bit strange too.
    Have you ever managed to break a Toyota?

    I bought a bZ4X in October last year. We drove it through the Norwegian winter, and now the clock shows 7.000 km. Not once I had to go to the dealership. It's my wife's daily driver. Before going home in the afternoon she preheat the car. After 20 minutes she just go down, start the car and drives home to her lovely husband. I heard all the horror stories about the flat 12V battery. I bought a handy boosterpack. Not once have i used it - exept on neighbours and friends cars. It's extremely comfortable to drive. The seats are nearly as good as my Lexus. It's spacious, but the coupe design limits packing the boot in the hight. The AWD is perfect for snowy winters. The range is sufficient to our needs. We have a cottage in Denmark. We get there with no problems, even in minus 20 degrees. Motor journalists can't open their mouths without trashing it. I don't care. They can just buy a Tesla, and life is good.....or is it? It seems as if I'm not the only one that doesn't give a s... about motorjournalists. It's as far the next best selling electric car in Norway in 2024.

    To all the gripers and complainers: you have been listening to much to other complainers ;-) I know it had a difficult birth, but it is a great car. Not perfect but many great qualities! I know, the range could have been better. However, the battery size makes it lighter than many EV's and in a winter comparison with many of the most sold EV's in Norway it was the best on snow&ice conditions and in steep hills. And in the braking test it stopped 2 car lengths shorter than the second best. I drive a 2020 Rav4 Plug in which I love but today I ordered a BZ4X after having one home for 24 hours. I live on the west coast of Norway with some long steep and windy roads and it was amazing!! I did have great expectations and it surpassed them all! It had an awesome grip, was smooth and stable, fun and enjoyable. It is not perfect of course but far from a half-hearted attempt on a EV.
    In Norway we have had very low taxes for EV's so most new cars sold are EV's. Tesla Model Y is by far the most sold here but the last year the BZ4X is on 2.place. Almost 25% of all cars in Norway now is a BEV.
    Regarding the missing glove box it is made to be equipped with at infrared heater for your legs and the 2024 model has it. 👏
    Regarding all new cars in the future being BEV's; ..it will not happen! Toyota has not jumped in sync with the rest of the car maker industry because they are good at predicting the future. Now you should have heard already that in Europe (and in America) the demand for BEV's are going down. And it really does not make sense to produce only Ev's as long as the electricity for running the cars is made by burning coal. In Norway we mostly use hydroelectric plants so it makes more sense. We also have to consider the millions and millions of cars sold in developing countries that does not have the stability in their power grid. So Toyota is making the right choice, about 30% EV's and the rest Hybrids and other versions of ICE's. Just to put things into perspective.

    I have to comment because I have one on order (FWD Motion)! Why? It rides and handles very well. The video states this but most people seem to have missed that bit. Its spacious and the boot is big enough (Ikea trips / golf clubs / luggage for 4 adullts) . Motion trim has electric seats with loads of adjustment (and lumbar) which I found to very comfortable. There is a 10 year warranty on the battery. The FWD model with 18inch wheels is not as bad for efficiency as the AWD and I don't do many motorway miles anyway so not an issue. The performance is ..well great actually. When did 0-60 in 7 secs become 'underpowered'?!. Plenty for almost every situation. And finally price - I got a great monthly deal. A Tesla model Y is a better car but was 180 a month more and I wasn't prepared to pay that. The only cars on the same monthly deal were the BYD Atto 3 (smaller, weird interior, terrible seats) and MG 4 (Too small, cheap feeling). Yes there are better cars but I couldn't find one of this size at the monthly price point I wanted to pay. I also admit that it has its foibles / annoyances, but I feel every car these days has (no indicator stalks on a tesla..?!) . There you go - the case for the defence.

    Toyota made this car poor on purpose. They don't want to sell you a pure electric car, they want you to buy one of their hybrids which are sitting in a field waiting to be purchased. Toyoda even said again that he doesn't think electric is the way. Meanwhile, the model y is the best selling car.

    • @drxym
      @drxym 4 місяці тому +2

      I don't know if it's deliberately crap but it's certainly lackluster and half hearted. Toyota's ambivalence and outright FUD about electric cars is well known so I wonder why they made this car at all, but perhaps it's to prove they can make something even if it is in low quantities and costs too much for anyone to want to buy.

    Won't recommend any Toyota these days, nothing to do with quality. Everything to do with their determination to slow down the adoption of Ev's. Even the excellent things like the four wheel drive on this car have been negated by the lack of range, HUD, glove box for goodness sake! Nope can't be doing with them thanks.

    • @JanHenrik541
      @JanHenrik541 2 місяці тому

      @@rrwerekrI think Toyota pr department oversold the EV capabilities of the bZ4X which was mediocre for the price (EV capabilities not the “car” capabilities). The bZ4X was supposed to be a lot more efficient than the competitors and hardly loosing range in winter to due an efficient heat pump. Toyota was murky about the battery size. I thought the gross kWh was the net because of the impressive WLTP figures. The “punishment points” for fast charging is incredibly dumb if you’re road tripping. Lack of charging on route in the navigation is not helping. This doesn’t matter so much for many owners though. I’ve noticed myself after getting an EV that I am not so dependent on DC fast charging, it’s only for road trips or if I accidentally forget to charge.

    That Siri debacle is truly wired but I have never experienced it.
    The placement of automatic high beam is to me an advantage. My wife has absolutely no idea how it works which was an issue in my old car, she was using it as an on/off switch with terrible results. Now she can’t find the button and it stays on by default so for me its a great safety feature 😁

Dealer tried telling her she did not drive it enough or for long enough (she used it every day- just like her previous Toyota which she had for 12 years! ) After multiple jump starts, Toyota finally fitted a more powerful 12v battery (Ah) and been fine ever since.

    I really think Toyota/Subaru have messed up with their EV’s. Underpowered, 204hp 2 wheel or 218 hp for AWD! Piss poor range, quite shocking to see those numbers. Poor charge times from the paltry 7/150 KW. They really need to look at their pricing structure, £52K and £55K for the Subaru, they will need to cut the price by quite a bit as no one is going to take this first effort seriously.
    So many better options to choose from, why would you buy one of these?

    I think given the price per kwh of many public chargers it's important for EVs to be efficient and in winter at least this clearly isn't. Toyota trying to prove that EVs aren't any good by producing a sub par product? These are pretty expensive list price wise too though I guess if they can't sell them there may be the odd cheapish lease around?

    You cover a few details other reviews don't, nice. Let's set the context. City driving in Los Angeles, this is a good car for around town and short get-away trips, yes. City MPGe is around 104 MPGe. This is NOT a LUCID. You're not paying LUCID price. Also, anyone comparing apples to apples with a Tesla is not fair; it's not a Tesla, haha. Not everyone wants a Tesla either :-)... You can use the DC charging at least 80% twice a day; it has a good buffer if out of juice. Want a road trip? I highly recommend "A Better Route Planner (ABRP), if you need to plan the trip....

      The latest what car review of the Citroen says real world range of 140miles so far less than the BZ4X. The BZ4X is fwd does 0-62 in 7.5 seconds which is plenty quick enough, where as the Citroen is 10 secs which is gutless. The app does allow pre heating just this reviewer was using the old app. Looks are subjective, I like the look of the BZ4X and lots of people do. I bet you have never been in the Toyota. The Toyota has far more room and a bigger boot than the Citroen and has very comfortable seats it also handles well for an eclectic car. A lot of the reviews regarding range are the awd with the catl battery, the fwd has a Panasonic battery and gets well over 200 miles even in the winter. Short term reviews of cars tend to be very different from an ownership prospective. I’ve owned many prestige cars and the Toyota is far from a dreadful car. As for the price it’s not in the same league as the Citroen so of course it costs more but when compared to the VAG group cars I preferred the Toyota. Electric cars can filter the power in different ways, a 286bhp VAG electric car filters the power in where as the Toyota has full power from the start so when driving them the acceleration isn’t to different. I suggest people try things before making statements based on online reviews.

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 4 місяці тому

      @matthewstatham3422 Obviously, the BZ4X is bigger. And I have test driven it. External is OK although I prefer the Nissan EV externally. But I don't like the price of either the Nissan or the Toyota. As for that money I would prefer the Model Y. But in UK the Model Y has higher insurance. They all have pros and cons. I find the Toyota has more cons. However, you don't. Which is great... At least you can buy one .

    • @matthewstatham3422
      @matthewstatham3422 4 місяці тому +1

      @@mikadavies660 if you drove the Toyota I’m surprised you found it gutless as I had a Volvo V60 D5 and its no faster than the Toyota. How can you find a car that does 0-62 in 7.5 gutless yet be ok with the Citroen which is 10 secs to 60.

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 4 місяці тому +1

      @matthewstatham3422 I didn't say it was gutless compared to my Citroën.... I said for a £50k car with two motors it is gutless. In driving on the road the Citroën, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Megane, Polestar, Toyota and Nissan are all adequate for day to day driving. But if you are buying a high spec, twin motor, 4 wheel drive EV. You would expect a bit of get up and go! It doesn't need to be 500bhp... Skoda Enyak VRS at 300bhp feels OK and is a similar monthly payment to the top spec BZ4X.

    • @matthewstatham3422
      @matthewstatham3422 4 місяці тому

      @@mikadavies660 the twin motors are more for the purpose of off roading as it’s considered one of the few electric vehicles than can off road. It’s not about outright speed. If you don’t need the awd capability then there is the fwd which is still plenty fast enough for our roads. As for the Skoda there sales team was bloody awful unlike the Toyota staff who were very pleasant. Also the VAG software is atrocious so wouldn’t want the Enyaq. I have had no problem with the software in the Toyota and the car has been perfect. Driving the Citroen and then Toyota back to back they don’t even compare so if you are test driving 50k cars why would you then get a Citroen as there many options at that price point.
