I have just watched this clip again (Quite a regular thing for me) and even after so long, I STILL cannot think of her equal. Rita Hayworth will always be the legend of style, performance, and an icon of how to live your life. I am almost 88 years of age, and I have seen all the screen "Glamour Queens", and Rita is right there at the top of the tree. Stylish, Glamorous, and with a personality which had everyone falling at her feet. What a shame she passed away so young (Relatively).
Lovely Rita, she was so wonderful and so seldom got the properties , co-stars or directors she deserved. Here, the technique is amazing--it's an intricate number which she makes look effortless. At least on this pic, Frank refused the top billing they gave him, saying words to the effect Rita Hayworth is the real star here.
Well the real story is that when he was given top billing for the movie, he refused it because he was making Pal Joey at Columbia Pictures, Rita's studio. Frank said Rita represented Columbia so felt awkward taking top billing with her as a co-star at her studio. This shocked Harry Cohn since by 1957 he had demoted Rita for Kim Novak
Rita Hayworth, now she WAS a star, she could play love scenes, tragedy, danced as good as almost any of her contemporaries, and in this film she proved that she could do comedy as well. She died way too young, some of the so called stars of today could learn a lot from her.
Marco - Italia

Try not to be so crass about a lady who is not here, able to defend herself. You and your ilk could learn a lot from the fabulous Rita.......Your problem is that when you THINK that you know it all, you have nothing to learn. So Wrong!
I take it from your reply that you knew her personally then! And she was SO impressed with you that she gave up on ALL men when she learned that she couldn`t have you. DREAM ON Tosser!!!@@catholiccowboy8545

@@rossellapirina383 You wrote "Elaine who?" on this video where someone said they prefer her version of the song to Rita Hayworth's. Elaine Stritch did this song on Broadway back in the 1950's, and had a decades-long career on Broadway, on the London theater stage, and in movies and TV. You can find Elaine's Stritch's version on UA-cam. The other commenter is right -- Elaine had character on stage! She was fabulous.
You're right about Elaine Stritch singing "Zip" over Rita Hayworth. Elaine has so much personality and charisma and stage presence. What a talent she was.
