I have just watched this clip again (Quite a regular thing for me) and even after so long, I STILL cannot think of her equal. Rita Hayworth will always be the legend of style, performance, and an icon of how to live your life. I am almost 88 years of age, and I have seen all the screen "Glamour Queens", and Rita is right there at the top of the tree. Stylish, Glamorous, and with a personality which had everyone falling at her feet. What a shame she passed away so young (Relatively).

See flashes of Gilda in Rita Hayworth's performance of ' Zip '.

Lovely Rita, she was so wonderful and so seldom got the properties , co-stars or directors she deserved. Here, the technique is amazing--it's an intricate number which she makes look effortless. At least on this pic, Frank refused the top billing they gave him, saying words to the effect Rita Hayworth is the real star here.

Well the real story is that when he was given top billing for the movie, he refused it because he was making Pal Joey at Columbia Pictures, Rita's studio. Frank said Rita represented Columbia so felt awkward taking top billing with her as a co-star at her studio. This shocked Harry Cohn since by 1957 he had demoted Rita for Kim Novak

Rita Hayworth, now she WAS a star, she could play love scenes, tragedy, danced as good as almost any of her contemporaries, and in this film she proved that she could do comedy as well. She died way too young, some of the so called stars of today could learn a lot from her.

Marco - Italia

@@rossellapirina383 You wrote "Elaine who?" on this video where someone said they prefer her version of the song to Rita Hayworth's. Elaine Stritch did this song on Broadway back in the 1950's, and had a decades-long career on Broadway, on the London theater stage, and in movies and TV. You can find Elaine's Stritch's version on UA-cam. The other commenter is right -- Elaine had character on stage! She was fabulous.

“In Paris I headlined: “The Follies”
Billed as: “Doll Of All The Dollies!”
    Admired by the great Stravinsky!
But my greatest achievement in the height of my career. Was the the time I starred for: “…Minsky”. You’re looking at a former stripper. But before I unzip one zipper!
I want it known I was quite the artiste! But, the INTELLECTUAL kind. What was I thinking while I worked, you might ask.
While I worked these thoughts kept crossing my mind…
    *ZIP!*
    Walter Lippmann wasn’t brilliant today
    *ZIP!*
Will the Giants ever take it away?
    *ZIP!*
I was reading: “Schopenhauer” last night
    *ZIP!*
And I think that Schopenhauer was right.
“Sigmund Freud” has often stated: “Dreams & Drives Are All Related”
    *ZIP!*
    I’m a firm believer!
Dorothea Dix’s daily column tells that love is dear and solemn
    *ZIP!*
I can take or leave her
    *ZIP!*
It took intellect to master my art
    *ZIP!*
    Every movement from the heart!
I have read the works of: “Plato”
    Translated most of: “Cato”
    *ZIP!*
    I am such a scholar!
    I don’t care for: “Whistler’s Mother”
    “Charlie’s Aunt” or “Schubert Brother”
    *ZIP!*
    Had to make a dollar!
    *ZIP!*
You have asked me what I think while I work
    *ZIP!*
    I’ve an intellectual quirk!
And my thoughts may skip whenever so inclined!
    *Oh! ZIP!*
    *ZIP!*
    *ZIP!*
I’m a broad with a broad, broad mind!
