  • Attracting and holding more bucks in your land becomes a whole lot easier when you understand how to collect dispersing yearling bucks. Great buck herds on small parcels are not born on your land, instead they are attracted and collected from other lands. This video discusses the simple process of attracting and holding dispersing yearling bucks so that you can explode the buck numbers on your small parcel.

    Jeff, thank you for all the great content. I am currently on 28 weirdly shaped acres in a central Minnesota development surrounded by mixed ag and other wooded properties. The cover is coming along. I'm applying your concepts and rearranging my property to keep the does and fawns close to my biggest food plots and making small plots connected by clover trails on the outside edge. I will stop using the middle and keep my movement to the outside on cooperative wind days. Switch is going in to block views from neighboring homes. Thank you for helping to turn around my doe factory setup.

    My uncle and I had a conversation about food plots. He talked about doing soybeans for "antler growth" and that his food plots in the past have always been eaten to dirt and a waste of money. I showed him your channel and invited him to watch lectures. I hope I can recruit one! He has a hard time believing me when I tell him about the winter rye.... lol. Really trying to figure out which videos apply to my situation.
    I have 14 acres with a couple small plots, all wooded area is high stem count .
    Trails running through with heavy traffic sign.
    A ton of rubs throughout the property. But no significant bucks on camera.
    I’m surrounded by big open timber from the neighboring properties.
    Both neighbors do not hunt. No ag within a reasonable distance

    The biggest problem I have is I have nice bucks in late summer get good camera pictures and then about mid September they disappear and don’t show back up till the rut. I can not figure out where they are going. I don’t check the cameras but once a month in the summer months so I don’t think I am pressuring them out. But when rut roles around they are back and new bucks to just none in early now season

      That means typically Summer food and good summer cover for bucks...but bucks require the exact opposite of cover and food in the Fall. More Fall food and only fall cover is a great start! Typically where bucks are at during the summer they are not at during the Fall...you don't want to have just a rut property ☺️

    Is there a reason why our does are having more bucks as offspring than does? Not complaining but it's very hard to hunt out property for the mature bucks because the dominant bucks very rarely move from their secluded areas where they bed! We have a 12 acre pond on the very southwest part of the property. I only take my boat across the pond 1 or two weekends during the rut other than that I cant hunt that area.

      I get that every year, its usually during the rut and its tending a doe for a few days,or some are at the end of the rut when its just passing through probably making its way back to where it normally beds and you only catch it on camera once.

    • @loganmullins3762
      @loganmullins3762 4 роки тому

      Buck2218 so do you think I will get a shot at him next year, I don’t really have a lot of does on my property I got maybe 8-10 and then I have ab the same amount of younger bucks some spikes and stuff then some small 8 points but no really mature bucks ive a couple of them but when I get a picture it’s just a couple over like 2 or 3 days then I don’t get him anymore and haven’t got him since then

    • @Buck2218
      @Buck2218 4 роки тому

      @@loganmullins3762 On a small property maybe, maybe not. bucks can travel a long way during the rut. unless there is a physical feature you can identify its hard to say you are seeing the same deer even if you have a good deer come through next year. A lot of times I try to judge if I am seeing the same deer based on shape of the horns and some of the biggest deer I have had on camera only once or twice I don't think I ever had come through again.

    Hi Jeff
    Thank you so much for all the free content.
    I need to ask a favor. Can you please create a video (maybe series of videos) discussing where to start from scratch. What I mean is where to start when there are really low deer numbers in your area. I live 100 miles north of Toronto, Canada at the northern tip of lake simcoe. We seldom see deer feeding in daylight on large AG fields etc.
    You have mentioned before that you did a lot of work to build the deer herd when living in the U.P. of MI.
    Perhaps you have covered all of this in different separate videos etc and could just create a "starting from scratch" playlist?
    I need to grow the deer numbers in my area and am wondering if the cardinal rule of "control the herd during daylight, during hunting season" is pretty much all that one need focus on? I know you have spoken extensively on this regarding growing bucks to the next age class.. what about does and overall numbers in general?
    Anyway, really appreciate all the free content you put out. Been a big help.
    Thank you.

    I have a long narrow 24 acre property. My neighbors have high numbers of does and fawns on grass/clover hay fields. I've counted (35) deer in one of their 7 or 8 acre field. I get a ton of overflow does and fawns on my property especially when the white oaks are dropping acorns. What do you do if your doe problem is overflow from neighbors who don't shoot many? Most of my big buck pictures 120"-150" here in PA, are late summer and then sporadic nocturnal pics through most of the fall.
