I feel like Ash vs Candice is underrated, he was getting one shot by her abomasnow, I thought he was going to rematch her (just like me during my brilliant diamond playthrough) but that Chimchar win was epic when he was snowboarding
Ash - The casual player who bonds with each Pokémon. Paul - The competitive player more focused on the highest potential. Tobias - The all out, no f*cks given player who loves a good steamroll. Personally I love the way Tobias was handled considering the blatant game/anime comparison they went with for Ash and Paul throughout their rivalry.
Dude the anime creators are like “crap Ash is too powerful. We need someone to beat him. AHA! Let’s make someone with ALL FRICKING LEGENDAIRES”. An thus Tobias was born
The crazy thing? Tobias's team was supposed to be movie references, according to the storyboarding that said he would also have a Lucario and an Entei. So . . . Spell of the Unown, Heroes, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, and Rise of Darkrai were the four movies that were picked to be "represented" by the team that would stomp Ash, before the writers realized he wouldn't need to fight four to lose.
It was also a battle that legitimately hospitalized Ash’s Pokémon, which doesn’t happen too often, even when he loses. I mean, sure heading to the Pokémon centre is a regular thing, but it doesn’t often happen where the Pokémon are actually wrapped up in bandages and take longer to heal.
ash's toughest battles are always a treat to watch. they're usually so well written except *cough cough* tobias who can barely be called a character. he's basically jiren without the characterization: he just exists to be a wall. nothing more, nothing less
And the worst part is that Jiren is already an inferior version of Toguro from Yu yu hakusho so you know how bad Tobias is when he's even worse than that.
I really wanted to know the rest of Tobias' Pokemon that he had when he took on Ash. The fact that he had 2 very rare and hard to find Pokemon in Darkai and Latios is incredible. Darkai took out 3 of Ash's Pokemon with ease showed how powerful it was.
Tobias probably had an Entei too sadly. It's shown in the intro of both the Japanese and English opening during the Sinnoh League battling Ash's Pokemon, so if I were to assume, the next Pokemon was certainly that. He was cooked.
I know I’ve already said this on MysticUmbreon’s Top Ten Strongest Trainers in the Anime video but Tobias represents one of those online trainers who would bring a full team of Ubers in an OU battle.
I would put Ash vs Guzma on there. Not only did Ash's pokemon have to deal with Golisopod's poison from his poison jab, but they also had to deal with his armor, which could even block Z-moves. While Ash did have a bit of a lucky break taking down Scizor, Pikachu was exhausted by the end of the fight with Golisopod.
Here are my top 10 Ash Ketchum battle in the Pokemon anime (in my opinion) #10 Ash vs Iris #9 Ash vs Gary #8 Ash vs Sawyer #7 Ash vs Guzma #6 Ash vs Hau #5 Ash vs Olimpia #4 Ash vs Paul #3 Ash vs Alain #2 Ash vs Gladion #1 Ash vs Kukui Again this is my top 10 Ash Ketchum battles......in my opinion
I think one of Ash's toughest battle was against Brock during his first gym match. I still can remember how onyx totally destroyed pikachu. Without those water pipes, Ash could had never got out of there.
Nice video! While Gary vs Ash was most people's childhood favourite match, mine was actually Ash vs Drake in the orange league. How do you feel about making an opposite of this list like "Top 10 Easiest Ash Ketchum Battles" or "Top 10 Most One-Sided Ash Ketchum Victories"?
I think Maylene deserves a mention as well. Although Ash managed to get her down to Lucario without any losses, everything turned around after that. Lucario fought its way through Staravia and Chimchar, and Buizel was only able to take it to a draw, and even then, Buizel needed to learn Water Pulse AND (iirc) make use of Swift Swim to do it. Despite all of that, Ash was still ONLY able to score a draw on Maylene, despite everything he had going for him with the momentum of being up 3-1, and Buizel's new move and ability. That Lucario was crazy.
Creator Backlash: A lot of the writers for the anime were just as upset about *having to have Ash lose the Kalos League to Alain because of the execs* as much as fans were. Word has it a few of them even quit in disgust.
@@elijahpadilla5083 those boys were idiots. They could have just made ash lose in the top 4 then and have ash face Sawyer in the quarterfinals, or, heck, just made him lose by forfeit in the first round. If they were gonna be this stubborn to not let ash win here, they shouldn't have hyped up the league so much
I think the battle against Olympia should be higher as it was a double battle and the speed and quick thinking was actually something most battles lack, when I watched it I was amazed
10: ash v tobias 9: ash v wulfric 8: ash v sawyer (kalos league) 7: ash v roxie 6: ash v olympia 5: ash v nanu 4: ash v guzma (alola league) 3: ash v kukui 2: ash v Alain (kalos league) 1: ash v Paul (sinnoh league)
Y'know now that I think about it. The lake Acuity battle against Paul and the League battle against Tobias are very similar. Ash getting battered and bruised while only taking out 2 Pokemon. Funny how the former did so much better with the concept.
I probably would’ve included Snorlax and Charizard. Snorlax knows sleep talk, and is quite a heavy hitter. And Charizard was another powerhouse as well, and if Ash saw an opportunity, he might’ve used Charizard’s blaze to an even greater degree than Infernape’s.
10. Ash only won this battle because of luck (Pikachu's static kicked in). I remember him saying at the start of the fight that he wanted it to be 3v3 for a "fair fight." 9. "Do you really think a Dark type Pokémon user cares about being 'fair'?" -Nanu The battle really proved Lycanroc's grit and was vital to his character arc. Tapu Bulu came in clutch with the berry. 8. Ash's first win against a Legendary! Charizard only won with a last second move and even then, barely. 7. Anabel was a touch challenge. She could telepathically communicate with her Pokemon. 6. Ash vs. Gary was top tier. Charizard soloed half of his team. 5. Ash vs. Paul was peak. It wasn't just a battle of rivals, but a battle of ideals. 4. Ash vs. Brandon was scary as Ash lost his strongest Pokemon in the first round, leading to the rest of the team having to pick up the slack. 3. This isn't even a fight. Just a beatdown. At least Ash won the others mentioned above (eventually). 2. No other battle in Pokemon can get a rise out of me like this. 1. I don't even consider this a lose. It was still an amazing and entertaining fight.
I think fantina should at least deserve a honourable mention spot. Ash had to develop counter shield to win that badge and later paul also adapted that strategy in the sinnoh league against ash
Yeah... Ash v Tobias again IS BRUTAL! Not even Heracross learning Sleep Talk was enough to help here like it did against Nando earlier on. Also wow Sleep Talk actually being used in the anime was nice to see.
Roxy is indeed one of the toughest gym leaders in the anime, allowing challengers to use 6 pokemons against only 3 of hers makes her a really good trainer, but since ash's unova team is my less favorite team I guess ash can do better by using different team and use only 3 pokemons as well. Edit: if only she wasn't playing loud rock music while battling, challengers can focus, and maybe they won't need all six pokemons to defeat her.
i like to think Tobias is the anime version of the players bringing legendaries to a league the only other ones who does that is Gladion (Silvally) & Hop (Zocian/Zamazenta)
The Kalos and Sinnoh League losses are particularly infuriating, each for their own special reasons. Kalos pissed off SOOO many people because of how ludicrously hyped Ash was after beating Sawyer, even the Rockets dropped a line alluding to it “He might actually win” so to see Charizard’s knee buckle and then have Greninja collapse was just a collective “GOD DAMMIT” from everyone. Sinnoh was an even worse offender imo, as Kalos at least gave Ash a respectable, down to the wire match. Ash had reached his peak and even defeated Paul in the quarterfinals in a huge momentum gain. So to be curb stomped by a write in character with no special character development other than being a cocky, mysterious coat wearing dude with the same voice as Scar from FMA was a real insult to the massive character development Ash had on his journey, this also being the only league where he ever brought back Pokémon from prior generations to battle. Ash should’ve won back during the Sinnoh league, but corporate greed demands that Ash not achieve his dream because they can’t fathom the idea of a Pokémon Master still exploring new regions and collecting more gym badges, god forbid he uses a different team.
When you realize that Tobias (assuming he joined the World Coronation Series) must have lost to Leon at some point. I'd like to think that Tobias is in either in Top 100 or Top 8. Hoping for a full 6 v 6 rematch for this. I'd also like to see how Tobias reacted when he did lose to Leon, since I think he beat all of the Gym Leaders and the Lily of the Valley Conference with only his Darkrai, excluding his match with Ash.
Ash vs tobias shouldn’t really count as the toughest considering Ash used some of his worst possible pokemon he had. Like why did he even consider using Torcoal, it’s his worst pokemon. It got one shot by Dark pulse. Heck Ash knew after the first episode that he had a darkrai so he could have planned ahead by using infernape who is a fighting type and also won his battle against Paul. And the writers gave Tobias’s darkrai ice beam which was effective against Septile and Gible(who should have evolved sooner lets be honest)
Ash vs Tobias was basically Ash vs the writers, so you can’t get any tougher than that.
The writers are without a doubt the main villains of the show. They have the power to manipulate everything from the story writing to Ash's character whatever they want for profit lol.

Wow Tobias sunkern, magikarp, weedle, and caterpie want to battle too smh.
9:55 I always chuckle at how much Zac hates Tobias.
8:18 Alain after 2 guillotines hit : Welcome to French (Kalos) Mother F
Intentionally or not, that was a cool historical reference.
When I Saw A Ash In a Toughest Battle I was like:*sigh* *sigh* *sigh*
Seeing Tobias in the thumbnail immediately makes me kinda annoyed due to how he robbed Ash from a win at the Sinnoh League
And gave him a humiliating defeat
@@eljordinio7647 It wasn't humiliating at all. He's the only guy who took out Darkrai and Latios. That would've gotten him mad respect... which disappears immedietly after he goes to Unova
@@Azzie-z3b he went from having the best battle of his life to getting brutally destroyed in spite of taking down two of his opponent's six. That shouldn't be how ur league run shoud end. It's humiliating cos of how rushed it was and the fact that ash stood zero chance of winning. Even Sceptile and Pikachu Alone couldn't turn the tide
Ash may get props for beating two legendaries but getting ripped apart like that was just disrespectful
@@Azzie-z3b Cameron makes tobias look like a reasonable defeat
@@ianr.navahuber2195 Ash was pretty dumb in Black & White anime, that is a pretty low bar, also, Black & White pulled a thing that is worse than Tobías, Pikachu losing to a lvl 5 Sniny.
#1. Ash vs Paul ( Sinnoh league ). What a battle it was!!!! The climax was most intense!!!!! The main highlight was drapion and Electwire vs Infernape
Ash vaguely talked about his battle with Tobias's Darkrai in the latest episode of Journeys and boy did it bring back memories
Ash vs Paul was legendary
The only battle which gave me chills in the series
I watched it with my cousins, we screamed so hard in that episode that my father thought in were in the world cup.
@@Ruffgi Lmao same
Infernape using flamethrower after blaze activation still amazes me
I feel like Ash vs Candice is underrated, he was getting one shot by her abomasnow, I thought he was going to rematch her (just like me during my brilliant diamond playthrough) but that Chimchar win was epic when he was snowboarding
@@stephaniecronin2056 Yes I agree
And they never used Tobias again. He was created soley to make Ash lose and the writers decided to discard him after he fulfilled that purpose.
One of his most unacceptable league losses to date. At least ash vs Alain was a close fight and we got to know Alain before it
@@stephaniecronin2056 there is nothing cool about this broken monster
The crazy thing? Tobias's team was supposed to be movie references, according to the storyboarding that said he would also have a Lucario and an Entei.
So . . .
Spell of the Unown, Heroes, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, and Rise of Darkrai were the four movies that were picked to be "represented" by the team that would stomp Ash, before the writers realized he wouldn't need to fight four to lose.
Can't wait for tomorrows episode!! :D
Me too! Planning on posting on Twitter and try to make her name trend
Not only was Ash vs Paul's first 6v6 tough battle wise but it was also tough mental wise.
Not to mention Paul completely wiped the floor with ash
@@eljordinio7647 true
My best guess, Tobias’s team consists of primarily Legendary and Mythical Pokémon.
The writers said he had a Mewtwo
In Japan it was revealed that 3rd Pokemon was Entei.
@@kunalbhansali2160 that was fake, it was entei.
@Is Karthik preety sure that is someone else heatran
You can feel Zac's hatred of tobias through the screen lmao
We all hate Tobias and for good reason
Dude this video looks fire 🔥
Ash battle with Tobias, and Alain made me feel the most absolute anger.
Tobias probably had an Entei too sadly. It's shown in the intro of both the Japanese and English opening during the Sinnoh League battling Ash's Pokemon, so if I were to assume, the next Pokemon was certainly that. He was cooked.
Cocky trainer fights Brandon
Brandon:
Gets shovel and gravestone
I know I’ve already said this on MysticUmbreon’s Top Ten Strongest Trainers in the Anime video but Tobias represents one of those online trainers who would bring a full team of Ubers in an OU battle.
I would put Ash vs Guzma on there. Not only did Ash's pokemon have to deal with Golisopod's poison from his poison jab, but they also had to deal with his armor, which could even block Z-moves. While Ash did have a bit of a lucky break taking down Scizor, Pikachu was exhausted by the end of the fight with Golisopod.
**Sees Tobias in the thumbnail **
Me: And I took that personally
I think his battle against Tapu Koko should've made the cut, winning against the Z move Guardian of Alola is quite impressive
Man I wish u got out of depression the thing might be a sudden shock to u hope u and raf recovered
Here are my top 10 Ash Ketchum battle in the Pokemon anime (in my opinion)
#10 Ash vs Iris
#9 Ash vs Gary
#8 Ash vs Sawyer
#7 Ash vs Guzma
#6 Ash vs Hau
#5 Ash vs Olimpia
#4 Ash vs Paul
#3 Ash vs Alain
#2 Ash vs Gladion
#1 Ash vs Kukui
Again this is my top 10 Ash Ketchum battles......in my opinion
I think one of Ash's toughest battle was against Brock during his first gym match. I still can remember how onyx totally destroyed pikachu. Without those water pipes, Ash could had never got out of there.
Tobias Vs ash is what a NPC Vs MC must feel like , or when you go back to an early route and run into a trainer missed on accident.
This video gives me goosebumps bro and I am not jocking
I’m very upset that Ash lost to Tobias, it made sense but even so
I think Maylene deserves a mention as well.
Is that true? Do you have an article?
So why did they do it anyway?!
If they wanted ash to win they should have just let him
@@eljordinio7647 The executives blocked the idea. The boys with the big desks said no, Ash-Greninja can't claim a tournament.
@@elijahpadilla5083 those boys were idiots. They could have just made ash lose in the top 4 then and have ash face Sawyer in the quarterfinals, or, heck, just made him lose by forfeit in the first round. @@eljordinio7647 They needed to stall just enough episodes until Alola came out, though, and XY didn't exactly let off the gas.

Now ash's toughest battle was Ash vs leon
Nolan and Brandon got to be in here :)
I think the battle against Olympia should be higher as it was a double battle and the speed and quick thinking was actually something most battles lack, when I watched it I was amazed
10: ash v tobias
9: ash v wulfric
8: ash v sawyer (kalos league)
7: ash v roxie
6: ash v olympia

4: ash v guzma (alola league)
3: ash v kukui
2: ash v Alain (kalos league)
1: ash v Paul (sinnoh league)
Let's go another Lumiose Trainer Zac vid!
I would not be surprised if Tobias returned in "Pokemon Journeys" and competed in the World Coronation Series.
Next Video should be on *Top 10 Stupid Ash Ketchum Battles*
damn u and umbreon posted at the same time 🔥
Is it possible that Tobias could return in journeys at the world championships?
It’s possible but very unlikely sadly
I hope
I really want that man to battle ash again in journeys. Ash has a powerhouse right now.
Pikachu
Charizard
Infernape
Sceptile
Dragonite
??????
@@sunnypa7101 yeah I’d really like to see all of ash’s best Pokémon face Tobias and also see his other Pokémon
@@andrewconnell1450 Yeah dude. Any suggestions for the 6th slot?
Ash’s toughest battle:
“Metapod, harden!”
There is no way Team Rocket didn't try and kidnap Tobias during the league seeing him use legendaries in a Pokeball
He would have whipped out Arceus had Team Rocket touched him.
I think we're all forgetting Ash's true toughest battle, not just for him, but for many of the audience as well: The Metapod on Metapod Harden battle.
So tough, that episode was actually banned from South Korea.
Pls. That fight was a joke
10. Ash only won this battle because of luck (Pikachu's static kicked in). I remember him saying at the start of the fight that he wanted it to be 3v3 for a "fair fight."
9. "Do you really think a Dark type Pokémon user cares about being 'fair'?" -Nanu
The battle really proved Lycanroc's grit and was vital to his character arc.
My favorite toughest battles are Ash vs Noland, Ash vs Paul and Ash vs Kukui.
Finally a collab with these two.
Goodra : I'm a pseudo legendary
Bisharp : I don't care
Paul's Ursaring appears : Don't cry. Just, run.
Yeah... Ash v Tobias again IS BRUTAL! Not even Heracross learning Sleep Talk was enough to help here like it did against Nando earlier on. Also wow Sleep Talk actually being used in the anime was nice to see.
Your content videos are great👀
Zac and Mystic Umbreon oh this is gonna be good, I stan you both omg this is gonna be good
I bet Tobias did the Dynamax dens and chose the best legendaries to compete in the Sinnoh League
its our unexpected boy zac once again
I am interested in Zactoshi Gekkouga
Please more video on that
cool video homie. besides charizard vs dragonite charizard and blastoise will always be my favorite fight from the original series.
YAY!!!ZAC POSTED
When Zac was about to introduce the video's guest I held my breath for a moment
I know why damn I am sad :(
Can't wait for Ash and Goh to battle in the league and it will basically be Ash vs Tobias 2.0
Great video guys!
Roxy is indeed one of the toughest gym leaders in the anime, allowing challengers to use 6 pokemons against only 3 of hers makes her a really good trainer, but since ash's unova team is my less favorite team I guess ash can do better by using different team and use only 3 pokemons as well.
Edit: if only she wasn't playing loud rock music while battling, challengers can focus, and maybe they won't need all six pokemons to defeat her.
i like to think Tobias is the anime version of the players
bringing legendaries to a league
the only other ones who does that is Gladion (Silvally) & Hop (Zocian/Zamazenta)
Ash vs Spencer of the Battle Palace, is on my top 10 list because they trainers got active and not only that the little snack break is real wholesome.
I NEED SERNA BACK AND/OR GRENINJA
Dont say that forbidden word, the anipoke community will go nuts!
I only need Hikari ♡
