Morning Tobin. My grandfather liked Mitchell’s and I like it. Yes it’s finicky and hard water can make it tricky. But I learned from my grandfather and I still use it. Nice helpful video for whipping up the Fat. My puck is in my Surrey Cadillac mug. Another thing I picked up from Grandpa. You take care and enjoy your week.
That's awesome that your grandpa passed it down to you Derek!!! Thankfully I don't have hard water issues. Do you? If so, how do you get around the hard water?
I do have hard water. I pretty much do what you are doing, well minus the measured water dropper tube. I just use my fingers, wettened and add water drops at a time (one to four). As to brush, it doesn't matter much what type boar, synthetic, horse, badger mix. With the hard water I have to load more and mix a little longer. But the end result is still the same. I mainly just face lather although I will use my mug, scuttle, bowl occasionally.@@Tobins_throwbacks
@@derrickhogue1868 awesome! I never use the syringe during a normal shave only for videos, I eyeball the water. So are you on a Well? Or Municipal water system? .
Thanks Shave Supply! Dude, that Mitchell's Wool Fat lather looks absolutely INCREDIBLE. As good as modern soaps are, sometimes you gotta reach for the classics 🔥🔥🔥
WOW this is awsome ! From now till 4 weeks I'm gonna buy that soap ( in it's original ceremic bowl ( offcourse )). I've allways wanted to try that soap. No real smell of whatever, just the soap, have let me to try out this one out, and now this DAMN friggiing awsome Tobin Fetters how -t0. So thanks ( again ) for your excellent how to leather up this soap with a synth brush ! ! ! !
Great tutorial Tobin! To me the reason that people have a hard time with this soap and some of the old school pucks is just experience. There's not a ton of super hard pucks or triple milled and usually people start with something that's relatively soft and most of their experiences started with stuff in a can. Both my grandma and grandpa had me whipping lather and they never had soft water and they just soaked it for a couple minutes with a little warm tap water. They never even soaked the brush. They didn't have beautician school when my grandma got out of high school so she went to barber school to learn how to cut hair and do shaves. You're spot on and if it didn't work out the first time, just keep at it. I'm looking forward to the brush series, I'm sure it's going to be informative. Take care!
Well said in I totally agree! I wish I had memories of my grandparents shaving! Too cool Thanks Ian! My Oumo Brushes came today. I have a ton instore. I'll be dropping brush vids for the rest of the year lol
Since you were going to be doing a bunch of brush vids, I picked up a Zenith super soft horse hair. I think it might give some badger brushes a run for the money.@@Tobins_throwbacks
I do love my triple milled soaps. Especially with their wooden bowl and presentation (captain fawcett one of my fav). I use synthetic, badger and boar to build lather. All work great in my experience. Looking forward to the brush series. Thanks Shave Supply!
I agree, the wooden bowls add a nice touch. I have one from Bullgoose Shaving and wish I had more. Thanks, brother, I plan on doing at least one brush video a week for the next little while 👍👍
I've yet to buy any hard soaps. Only croaps and cremes. I always just assumed that they would be harder to lather but you made it look pretty easy here
Nice tutorial. My first hard puck was from Leaf and i was scraping it and lathering it in a bowl but after your previous hard puck videos i do like you showed here at it works better. Have a great week
Great tutorial Tobin I really enjoy your content and I must say from the content that I watch you do more giveaways than any other content creator and I really appreciate that #shavesupply
You really demonstrated it whipped to the full and ready to paint on - would you go against lathering it on your face? Got mine coming in dish and I'd consider taking the bowl step and working it on my face instead for all the reasons they go on about, exfoliating, moisturising the skin and softening and lifting the hair
@LynchTheShills thank you! Absolutely, it does great with a face lather. I'd definitely recommend giving that a go. I only did it this way to help demonstrate how to lather it. Let me know how it goes 🙏 have a good one!
Great demonstration Tobin with a great technique👏 My MWF (& other triple mills) method is not too dissimilar to yours and personally never had much trouble producing lather from MWF and use mostly soft Synthetic brushes, yes I also use Boar knots and love them as well. Were you using the Tallow base or the new Palm oil based soap?👍🤠🤟
Thanks Lawrie, Mine is the v1. I want to try the new v3. Gareth at the shave Supply and Phil at Bullgoose are both telling the v3 is supposed to be the best. It just came out last year it still of course has lanolin.
@@Tobins_throwbacksThanks for the info, I didn't know that the different versions of MWF were numbered, so I expect the latest V3 must be an updated version of their Palm oil base? Is it printed on the label somewhere?
Have you ever tried Stirling's Sheep? Rod has hinted that he may discontinue it. It is unscented and made with mutton tallow/lanolin. It might be the most luxurious feel in the hobby. It lathers with no fussiness and it still very affordable.
@jays3438 I like the idea, I've never given it any thought. But I definitely think it could be pulled off especially with a little stubble or maybe even soaking the tips of it just before applying.
It had beef tallow. It never had sheep fat. However. It's called Wool Fat because of the lanolin. Lanolin is called 'Wool Fat". The name still fits. 👍👍

Well water. I would like to get a water softener. That would save me from having to replace my water heater again. Sigh.@@Tobins_throwbacks
My grandpa passed me Omnibus and K2e.
He was tired of adding water.. His age wouldn't let him face lathering for 3 hours.
That lather 💥
👍👊

Practice and patience. Grab any triple Milled soap. I think you'll be glad you did Jim
Great tutorial Tobin. I've heard a lot of people say that you need to use a boar. Great lather! No boar😊
Thanks 👍 mostly just patience and practice
I am sure that you will have demystifyed a soap that can be foreboding to some, Tobin.
Thank you Save Supply
😂 I don't know about that but I hope so I like the sound of it LOL

How do you like the captains choice copper bowl? I have their ceramic version but would like one more durable as a backup
I LOVE it, I also love my stainless steel from HC&C. I highly recommend both.
Excellent lather!

I haven't Patrick I've wanted to buy it several times though. Maybe I'll shoot him a DM and ask him about it do you know how recently he said that
Great demonstration 😊

Strike Gold Shave 👊 nice shirt!
Thanks! 👍 Frank sent it to me
Any thoughts on making a shave stick from MWF?
@jays3438 I like the idea, I've never given it any thought. But I definitely think it could be pulled off especially with a little stubble or maybe even soaking the tips of it just before applying.
Thanks!
Never tried MWF. I tried to order the old formula ceramic bowl a month or so ago, but it was all gone. What did you use? The old or new? Great video.
I used V1 the newest version of the V3 just came out a few months ago Gareth at the shave supply has it
Thanks Shave Supply 😎

The Fat! Great vid bro!
Thanks!
nice
Thank you!
I tried lathering soap on a brush before but I could never figure it out so I just gave up.
This soap?
@@Tobins_throwbacks no some soap commander I got from a forum some years back

@@Tobins_throwbacks Yes.

Its a Vanity Bag...sir😅😅😅

Мужик, это мыло лучше взбивать сразу на лице. Иначе оно начнет быстро садиться, хоть в чаше и получилась хорошая пена.
It does shrink super quick.
