- Reason now supports VST3 plugins in the Rack! And it couldn't be easier. Reason 12 users can install the upgrade for free and on their next launch, Reason will now find all the VST3 plugins you have installed elsewhere on your system and make them available in Reason's browser. To welcome new plugins to the Reason Rack , Ryan shows us four great and FREE VST3 plugins that can be made even greater using tricks unique to Reason's modular Rack environment. You can download these plugins yourself to try out these ideas and find more ways to upgrade an already existing plugin's feature-set!

Ryan really shines in these tutorials, the way He speaks and explains things, is top quality add that to the visuals of these videos its top quality stuff. Keep them comming.
Ryan was the guy to inspire me to try out the back side of the rack. I thought that was scary but after chord generator video I have no idea how I lived without it before
Ryan = mvp
@@mrshurukan The back of the Rack basically functions exactly the same as physical sythersizors from Moog or Korg and so on basically patch cabling.
@@HOLLASOUNDS yes, and I adore that about reason! Even your instruments are placed on virtual metal rails. I guess just like you would go about stacking professional hardware! Love it
@@mrshurukan Real Rack gear is still very common among home Studios, either in a Rack unit with devices stacked ontop of each other or in the studio desk.
@@mrshurukan To add to My comment Ryan has a real Rack behind him right side if the screen.
"The willingness to experiment.."
That is THE tag line to Reason.
Thank you, Reason. I've been looking for myself in many DAWs, but none clicked to me like Reason did. In just 3 days of learning from these beautify crafted videos I made a song. I think it was one of the best I did in a long while. It was done just using stuff that came in Reason+, which is totally amazing. Everything is well organized and has that beautiful touch of Reason Studios.
Love it, love creating in it.
10/10 definitely staying in Reason
I'm in the same boat. I have Cubase 12 Pro, Live 11 Suite (which is VERY good, mind), FL Studio 21. I just...prefer Reason. Always fun, always inspiring.
Yep. I own every major DAW and have given them all a fair shake but I always come back to Reason. Something about it just inspires me to make music more than any other. Been using it since version 3 but as of version 7 I've been doing full projects in it and it's by far my favorite full workstation
"Just using stuff that came in Reason +" - well my friend Reason + includes everything that RS has put out so that is a LOT of stuff. I only have stock Reason 12 and that is still a vast amount to get to know.
@@captainblood9616 while that's true, I feel like a lot of required and important stuff is missing from other stock daws. Im even talking basic acoustic drums and decent piano. I understand, that these jnstruments arent the easiest ones to recreate digially and its expensive to have them as samples. However, stuff like that can literally ruin my beat if I cant add piano or drums I like
Happened a lot in Ableton, literally cant do stuff without downloading a ton of vst first. Reason+ is everything I need for a fraction of cosf!
Christmas came a week early! This was a great year for reason, thanks lads!
Thank you Reason Studios for continuing to improve Reason and for making it a more and more impressive piece of software with every update. Truly appreciate all the hard work that has gone into Reason in 2022. It is amazing how much work has gone into Reason this year, fixing bugs, devices, Multicore/Thread improvements, etc. I hope this dedication and hard work continues on for generations of Reason to come, you guys really bit down this year and fixed a lot of issues which would have been very hard and time consuming, but we really appreciate it even though not many will say it, you guys will reek the rewards by doing it as having a solid DAW will draw more people into its amazing eco system of sound/audio.
Reason Studios came through with the VST3. Much respect 👊🏼
Fantastic stuff! The fact that VST3s can be an integral part of a mad scientist Reason Combinator is really amazing. To hell with presets, let make a whole new synth from modular pieces!
Very cool. I use Logic Pro X and there is just one small pathetic modulator.
These possibilities of various and multi modulations of plugins in Reason making this software very attractive ! ! !
Excellent update and just wanted to shout out how good Ryan is at presenting these videos!
Woah! You guys went 20000 Leagues under! Wasn't sure of hoopla about VST3, but Reason studios always finds a way to blow past expectations! Cheers and happy holidays to you all!
Waited since Reason 1 for this! Always been a Propellerhead fan since I purchased Rebirth and this update is bringing in the New Year just right! Major props to Ryan for consistently making engaging and informative videos!
Great Job Ryan, Great job! BEAUTIFUL Sounds and programming.
Just in time for Christmas, thank you so much. Reason is the greatest DAW for me personally and I'm never switching to another one.
This guy never ceases to amaze me with these tutorials. Awesome Job...again!
Thanks for the vid Ryan. Definitely appreciating the extra outputs on the VST host too. Really opens up what I can do with my acoustic drum mixes using Superior 3/GGD and the like.
reasons social media stuff posts are always so informative, fun and awesome. i dont think anyone else in audio does as good a job of reason with this stuff. i really appreciate these helpful videos. peace to reason studios !!!!!!
Powerful stuff here, Ryan!
I am SO APPRECIATIVE of the multiple audio outs!!
I Love Reason I've used other DAWs but always come back because Reason's workflow just feels right. Love the addition of VST3 capability. Finally great job as always Ryan!!!
Love you guys and love using Reason. It's really the best DAW for writing music, hands down.
That last example with Players, straight up magic Ryan,. Thanks for sharing these tips with us. Saying that, I am still learning how to tweak and customise Europa and Grain according to my projects' requirements. Let alone other VST plugins 😅 I THINK i got a good grip on Thor, Malstrom and Subtractor. So much can be done with Reason's own synthesizers and samplers. Happy holidays to the Reason team.
Thank you Reason, Merry Christmas all and a happy New Year.
Thanks for your tutorials, always good clear, not forgetting inspiring.cheers
I think Ryan is the best production "idea communicator" on the internet. I watch all of his stuff just to see how he thinks and to try to have some of his ideas seep into my own production ideas! Great as always.
Killer. Best Reason, as well as for most things synth and production vids on the net. I was waiting for you to throw a dual LFO on the quad note generator! Great stuff, man. Great stuff. I take some of your ideas and, several hours later I emerge and realize I've taken the magic carpet ride and "ain't got sh*t done." Thanks, from an OLD space fart guy for always finding the fun in the sonic distractions of "getting there."
I really like the way this guy explains things. More videos like this please.
VST3 is finally here! Yay! I'm so tired of hearing people complain about it. Now what are they going to conplain about?
MPE ❤️
Why does my music still sound like shit? Why aren't I famous yet? WHYYY REASON WHYYYYY!
I wonder why any improvement and new feature is ever made or added to any software. In fact why should there be a reason 13 in the future? Or better still let's all go back to Reason 1, since added features don't make better music...
No M1 native support xDDDD
@@RicoTropico they mentioned in their Roadmap update that the first step to that was the re-written processor handling, and that all RE's are now working in Silicon mode. So I think we're probably pretty close to having that!
love the creativity! you ignited mine with this vid.
That’s why Ryan is the man! Tight video!
Dope. Thanks for the video!
Thank you Ryan...and reason ❤️💯🔥
Congrats again to Reason to surpass yourself on this aspect !!!!
lovin this ,reason showing us some love
Confirmed working - Korg Microkorg VST3 runs smoothly! ♥
We need reason rack plugin to have these same features! Why can't we load vst/vst3 plugins in reason rack? Make it make sense!
It’s about time....Thanks reason I appreciate it....
Insane level of creativity. I’ll put my Arturia and UVI Vintage Vault VSTs through this concept. Should be loads of fun.
This is awesome !!!!
Great video, love this stuff, Reason is awesome.
Thank you so much for VST3 support. RIP Bluecat patch werk!!!
Really inspiring video!
If only Reason could load VST instruments in the Rack Plugin, then I’d finally have a quick and easy way to use Reason LFOs to modulate plugins in any DAW (I use Pro Tools).
Merry Christmas!
👏, love y'all Reason! This here is a movie 🎬.
Great video,Thanks
Finally. Thanks!!!
Wow... Reason Studio has alot of depth!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣lets gooOO!
this is why i love reason:)
Cool Kalimba patch on algorithm! I’m going to start using that one!
hi, very good channel, well run.... thanks👍
Vital has step modulation abilities all over the place, Ryan. _Every_ lfo in Vital can be a grid based step modulator per se - and a very flexible one. Also every matrix connection has its own mod-mapper (something that Reason devices miss entirely) which can transform _any_ modulation into a step sequence.
That's what I was thinking.
ooosht 🎉🎉 top stuff
I love this stuff, and agree with others that Reason is inspiring in a way that other DAWs are not. My "dream DAW" would be a mix of all the best features from all DAWs, but between Reason Rack plugin and Ableton Link, I guess I can almost have my dream DAW anyway. Running Reason inside of Logic or Bitwig, or even Reason, Bitwig and Logic at the same time, since Logic also recently added Ableton Link. Good time to be a hobby or pro producer 🙂
Amazing, as always, Ryan... and will you (Reason) be releasing the Plönkr combinator? Or are we left on our own to recreate? sounds fantastic!!
Greatest DAW in the world REASON STUDIOS
Dope!
What's funny about this video is the character of his voice changing when he first flips the rack. As if we were hearing him from the other side!
haha! I'll just pretend that's what i was going for and not that I forgot to record part of the script originally. :)
Ryan is the Dean of Reason-U
I had no idea sweeper had an audio follower. I’ve been trying to make it work in Thor, but this is so much nicer!
There we go.. Reason Studios wan't just going to say "Yea OK you can load VST 3 in Reason now.." I knew they would spice it up somehow.
Reason is a monster..... I luv it
Wish they would add knobs and buttons to vst rack devise like combinator has, so you could access most of the parameters without opening vst window. And a 8 channel cable option would be nice too.
Sounds like a plan, indeed!
Welcome to Bitwig's endless modulation possibillities...
Sorry. Could not resist...
oh my god finally vst 3 is available.
it took a hundred years but now I can maybe use reason sometimes. Really cool learn function and routing I sometimes despise the shitty limited LFOs in vital and serum
You don't understand what just happend, they gave you the possibility to work on vst3 as it was part of the program, i think you don't assimilate this part !!!
@@DeejayAfro yeah i know that part its pretty cool. I was just really avoiding reason for the longest time because of vst3 incompatibility I have reason 12 and its just gathering dust while i use cubase. Now I can use it for something and also add CVs to parameters which is cool.
@@MrAw3sum You do know Reason can be used as a VST inside Cubase right?
@@captainblood9616 The whole point of using reason is to be using the daw itself with all its routing options. The only thing from reason i'd ever want to use as a normal vanilla insert or instrument in Cubase is Synchronus, Mimic, Klang, or Kong Drum Designer.
@@MrAw3sum Fair enough and I agree. Was just checking in case you somehow missed that one 😉
Reason DAW is back!
Hello ! I was waiting a lot for this feature so I'm really happy ! One question please : are we now able to use expressive e touché une reason daw ? I love this decide and it would be amazing to be able to use it !!
Ryan, that was superb info... Those ambient styles on the latter part where very Enigma ish...Amazing... I must say my downfall is wiring up stuff to make new things as i get lost so easy and end up trwling through preset after preset looking for inspiration (which REASON + has helped this alot) although currently when i preview the sound packs my audio isnt working ? any ideas ? lol... REASON works fine and my PC audio is fine but no audio from REASON PLUS preview audio tracks...I use ASIO drivers. Anyway, AWESOME video and information.. Thanks.
I LOVE THE FACT THAT I HAVE BEEN A P-HEAD FROM THE BEGINNING, AND EACH YEAR REASON HAS GROWN, AND SO HAS MY ABILITY TO USE THIS PRODUCT. I DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING AND THAT'S COOL, REASON 12 IS MY MAIN RESOURCE FOR ALL MY DAW NEEDS, A DAW. A PLUGIN, I CAN MIX AND MASTER AND USE VST3 ALL WHILE INSIDE ANOTHER DAW OF YOUR CHOICE! NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE! I'M 60 YEARS YOUNG, AND I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A LONG TIME, I WANT MORE! GREAT STUFF!
Damn, Reason rack inside Bitwig has so many possibilities now that I need a nap.
I keep toying with Ableton live as my main composition tool but I always come back to Reason because nothing gives me the same Mad Scientist vibes as throwing things together in the rack. The linear display of Ableton isolates everything in this discrete lanes and you have to keep SO MUCH routing in your head, whereas in Reason I can always see what I'm doing and basically how things connect, (even if sometimes I lost track of what's going on). And the ability to wire across device changes whenever I want... Too sweet to resist.
Many moons has passed for this day to finally arrive! How many more moons will pass before we get a update for the sequencer, piano roll, and editing features?
Great..👍
Next.. Mpe Support 🙏
@reasonstudios we need the piano 🎹 roll back in the combinator editor
Could you do a video on how to quickly use multiple side chaining in reason, I have seen other vids and it seems quite complex compared to other DAWs
I did some short tests. Vst3 works really great! A layer of 2 Wavestate native vst3's in the Combinator and the cpu meter didn't even show one bar. 🙃It's just bonkers.
It would be cool to use vst2/3 plugins inside the rack also for the vst plugin version. Now we have the Reason vst plugin as a midi effect which can't embed vsts.
Bitwig: Hold my beer.
Hey Ryan, can you please put in a word to the development team to apply vst hosting in the plugin version for reason rack?
The wide and varied capabilities of DAWs are just crazy. I come from 4 track cassette in 1981, and that was what I used til 1996 when I got an ADAT, mixer and a rack compressor...then DAWs, which I never got into until like 2016, lol. DAWs and plugins are the bossest thing ever...when things are going well and stupid things such as latency aren't happening. I did work out that I needed to shell out for a higher-end gaming computer. Who knew it was so hard for computers to make sounds; that's especially strange to me. A Boss BR-800 multitracker can do tracks all day using just an SD card, but a computer with a nuclear i9 brain, a 1 TB SSD and 32 gigs of RAM starts crying. 🤔
이맛에 리즌 사용!!
I think it's very cool to see that Reason now also supports VST3 and as one could expect in its own special way. _However..._ you guys claim that no other DAW provides these modulation features , yet that's not quite true ;) Actually, it's plain out false; I know of at least 2 other DAW's that can do that out of the box as well.
Will there be a Friktion device but for brass instruments?
Danke
I'm already used to make these things in Reason, taking advantage of its infinite routing possibilities even on expanded 3rd party VSTs, which normally u cannot. Unbelievable that thanx to your unique DAW concept u can expand every plugin to a full control level. Just improve how magnification works and PLEASE how the browser works and u'll end with the perfect DAW. I'm a Reason user from the beginning, now I also use Live and Logic but Reason have this unique flow/way to work with cables (like in real life but better) that makes it unbeatable for experimentation, which is what I love most. Thanx guys!!!
Hi, the new combinator looks powerful, but I’m a bit scared if it breaks remote midi mapping. Now I have my live rig controlling combinator buttons 1-4 and rotary 1-4 with every patch. Will that work with reason 12?
Please add vst support to RRP, i like Ableton as a daw, but i love reason as an instrument and fx rack, and i think since vsts are also instruments and fx, they belong inside the reason rack...which belongs inside the DAW...
very nice reason team
I love the new VST 3 plug in's. However... I can't seem to record any of the vst'3's. (Automate) Lanes are grayed out.
Does anybody else have this issue? Trying to use the loop machine from Cubase. (Can play it. Doesn't automate or record)
Thanks in advance.
From the email announcement I received this morning: "You can now run your favorite VST3 plugins inside Reason STANDALONE" (emphasis added). In other words, you can't load VST3 plugins within the Reason Rack Plugin, so you won't be able to do this if you're using the Reason Rack Plugin. You can do this only if you use Reason as the DAW.
Right but the DAW your using the Rack it has VST3? Is there not a way to connect a VST3 with the Rack in Ableton for example?
@@HOLLASOUNDS "Is there not a way to connect a VST3 with the Rack in Ableton for example" - I don't have Ableton, so I'm not sure, but I would say it depends on what the Reason Rack Plugin makes available as external interfaces/parameters. Perhaps I should have been more direct, but my point was that you cannot create a combinator which uses a VST3 and then load that combinator in Reason Rack Plugin (based on that note in the email). To be clear, I don't have another DAW, so I don't know if this is also the case with VST2 plugins or if it is specific to VST3.
Newbie here, with both reason and abelton, but from what I may understand, by loading Nektarine plugin on the midi track before adding the Reason Rack, I can insert any vst3 under it in Nektarine
@@nomore6167 At a guess I would say the you are correct and loading VST 3 inside what is itself a VST is likely not supported. I can see how someone using another DAW might want to use some of these features inside the Rack plugin, but I doubt they will add it. Can't have everything!
Maybe now you guys can work on adding vst hosting to reason rack plugin like we've been asking you to do for years...
👍👍👍
When and if R12 ever discounts again, I will upgrade.
Reason Studios has had two 3rd off sales and 1 50% off sale this year. There has also been sales from 3rd party sellers, Anditons had it for less then half price a cupple months back.
People bang on about how powerful Bitwigs modular workflow is, but its nothing to Reason's more logical environment imho.
Unfortunately this does nothing for us who only use Reason as a Rack-plugin VST within another sequencer(and never touch use Reason as a DAW since it is way behind in so many areas for that)
How great wouldn't it be to be able to create combinators for both Reason RE and VST-instruments within in Cubase? I mean CUbase itself have no combinator-like functionality!
I would love to be able to select mimics sample slots via midi!!!
Yes, automating sample slots is definitely a missing feature on Mimic. As is the ability to automate its modes.
@challism Yes, I totally agree! And of course it would be fantastic to be able to sample into mimic via its input when using it inside reason rack in Ableton! Then it would be the ultimate killer sampler!!! 💥
@@ARP_2600 ask ableton to provide access to Reason from it's SDK then :)
@@DeejayAfro Ah, I understand... Then it will probably never happen... :(
@@ARP_2600 that’s problem, Reason does a lot to make things work the right way, i’ve seen some other company’s that have a lot of clout not caring a lot about the fact what people want …
Look how VST3 got implemented to fit the workflow of Reason natively, now tell me about any other daw that takes to the same extend the external features of another company and make them work the same way as you’ve seen in the video!
Maybe 2 or 3 as I was reading comments about bitwing and Reaper?
VST3 support is great...but now most plugins are duplicated in the browser as I needed to have both installed for multiple DAWs. Any chance of adding a browser preference toggle to hide v2 if v3 is available for a plugin?
update: manually disabling the VST2s in the Window/Manage Plugins pane sort of works as a workaround; smart filtering would have been preferred.
You can disable the VST2 plugins by unchecking the folders where your VST2 plugins are stored.
Open Preferences - the Folders tab - and uncheck the VST2 folder(s)
@@matnids5497 I know, but not all VST2 plugins have a VST3 sibling so this will actually worsen things as plugins will disappear that should not.
Once they update sampling, looping and the sequencer to modern times, Reason will be a force to be reckoned with for folks who want maximum Hmmmmm...I wonder in their creativity.
Its too bad you can't combinate that whole thing as a preset when done, one could just change patches and expriament in a new session.
so still no midi multiple outs and no significant discount for current reason users?
PLÖNKR :)
PlonkRE surely! A missed opportunity lol
