The match was incredibly tense and exciting all at the same time. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and my heart was racing. The English had a good game plan and were in control for most of the match, but the Springboks never gave up. Pollard's penalty to give South Africa the lead for the first time was a huge moment in the match, and the Springboks went on to win the game. It was an amazing performance by our boys, and they deserve all the credit.
It was extremely similar to the Wales v South Africa semi final in 2019. It was 16 - 16 at 74 minutes. Wales were attacking. Just outside the South Africa 22. Wales were on top. The referee then gave a very harsh penalty against Wales in the ruck. South Africa kicked to our half. Took the line out. Maul. Penalty in 76th minute. Pollard took the kick. That was that.
so you have the lead and the ball with less than 5minutes....so of course you aimlessly kick the ball in the air..stupidest thing anyone ever did in an england shirt

U guys were playing with yourselves while we just stopped u doing much damage. Then when u were tired playing against yourselves we saw the time and woke the beast to win.
I have watched rugby intently throughout my fifty-seven years... A fervent supporter... Noble in defeat... (I've had to be... "The Sharks" taught me well...) My Welsh husband never fails to ask my forecast for an upcoming Springbok game... (This man proudly wears his "Bok Trui" every Friday and every game day except if Wales are playing the Boks...) I had said low scoring close game stop start scrappy... (His Welsh brother in Cwmbran had said that the Boks would win by a country mile...) The reason behind my words was the "hype" of the week preceeding the game... So far this week there is a sense of calm...an acceptance by both teams playing in the final that the inevitable outcome will be whatever it may be and talking about it will simply not affect the outcome... I prefer it this way... 🇿🇦💚🏉
It wasn't the hype of the preceding week, although that may have contributed a little. The exact same team played an insanely bruising game against the French 1 week prior to this game. I'm pretty sure they were all still recovering when they walked onto the pitch. The English played a mediocre Fiji side the week previously and still were not good enough to score a try against us. If they did away with pools and (like the world cup cricket) played each each nation once, the English would not have made the semis. Just like the world cup cricket. Watching the whinging English lose gives me more joy than anything else on the planet and I'm proud of our boys that destroyed their hopes in two world cups in a single day.
For me, the turning point was England bringing on Kyle Sinckler who is a terrible scrummager, South Africa basically got back into the match/won the match through scrum penalties.
Congratulations to England management on a clear gameplan of stopping SA implementing theirs. The Boks were lost for a long time with no answer and no forward plan. The last 10 minutes were really all that stood out, and a stressful 10 minutes it was. Well done bokke - we need 1 more win!
No one mentioned that a wet pitch is always difficult for the Boks, we're just not used to it. If the conditions on Saturday are the same, the Kiwi's have a massive advantage.
I wish people will realise that rugby can be played in many different ways, as a Bok fun this wasn't fun to watch but I can tell you England was loving it until the 77th minute. Boks to clinch this one took lots of mental strenght and the subs pulled us through.
England Fan. Was a great game; thought we played as well as we could have (following a few games when that could not have been said) and went out with heads held high. Gonna be an excellent final. Everyone's seriously gotta lighten up!
Well said! You guys made a MASSIVE recovery from a few months ago. England getting to the semi-finals made alot of Irish supporters very salty after they wrote you guys off for this WC!
THE ART OF WAR In the art of rugby war, much like warriors enduring a tempest's fury, the Springbok rugby team's unwavering resolve mirrored the wisdom of Sun Tzu. As the master strategist eloquently put it, "In war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak." Hidden in plain sight the Springbok scrum manifested this principle, a silent powerhouse, ready to seize victory when the moment was ripe. In the midst of the game's intense clashes, England may have claimed fleeting victories, but as Sun Tzu wisely observed, triumphs in individual battles don't assure triumph in the war. Indeed England may have won the on-field battles, but, as Sun Tzu's timeless wisdom reminds us, victory in battle doesn't guarantee success in the war. The Springboks, akin to seasoned generals, exercised patience. In the game's dwindling moments, they seized the strategic vantage point with their scrum. They made substitutions, ceded territory, and fortified their scrum, ultimately clinching the war even when it appeared that England had triumphed in the battle on the field. It was then that England realized they had secured the battle but lost the war. In rugby, much like in war, the final score unveils the indomitable spirit, the very essence of the team that conquers...........................................................................................................................the Match.

Springboks were not sure how to get tries in the first half but everyone knew that they had to defend big time until a plan came through. Defense is crucial when nothing works.🇿🇦
I reckon the 1995 semi at Durban was similarly dramatic in the pouring Durban rain, France almost pulling it off in the funal seconds but SA hanging in
Hats off to Handre Pollard!! The truth is that I will be a gutted bok supporter if we lose the final, but losing to the mighty All Blacks is not something we will need to feel ashamed about. As an armchair observer it seems like the boks might have already emptied their tank with those tough games against Ireland, Scotland, Tonga, France and even the Poms were a tough opponent, the AB's have only had 2 tough games and could very well have more energy than the boks in the final. Hoping that Jacques and Rassie can pull a few tricks out the hat for this one. Finally a big thanks to Jacques from bok supporters for the role you played in giving us something to be proud of again and all the best for your new venture in Ireland, it's going to be hard for us if you end up coaching another team against the boks though, but somehow it sort of feels inevitable.
Jeepus, people. Did you see that solid defence and hard hit tackles for a solid final 2 minutes? That aggressive and solid with no penalties? You HAVE to give that credit.

Funny how England tried to run and move the ball around urgently when they were out of time, but it was desperate and not clinical. They need to raise their game tempo so that when the moment arises, they can play at a breakneck speed with fluidity and skill.
And they said, 'It will be a Northern hemisphere final.' And that, "Ireland is world number 1." How dare they count South Africa and New Zealand out? We ARE rugby!
It's so ridiculous that England now gets praised for playing a style that the Springboks used to get criticism for playing. It's tough being the champs, maybe if 90% of rugby world cup weren't won by the south then you northerners would understand.
I still stand by saying if you underestimate Springbok on one side it will give you other reason to shock you. I still say that world cup is coming home twice in the row. History is here to be made once again. GO BOKKE!!!
Watching this and seeing Dione Fourier on the side of the scrum. WHAT A LEGEND! Side of the scrum in the Semi, then middle of the scrum for the final. Is there anything he can't do. At this level, the finer nuance of each position matter, a lot. WHAT A LEGEND!
The reason there was only one "meh" try in the entire game was because both teams had doubled-down their defensive strategies. It was a defensive game and was never going to be high-scoring with both teams flexing their defensive strategies for the win. That meant one thing - It was going to be a close/tight fought game. Look at Ireland and France - Arguably two of the three most exciting teams going forward. Both have generally good defences (usually) to boot, but when you attack you're more likely to expose yourself. France and Ireland exposed their respective underbellies and paid the price - Neither team on Saturday wanted to expose themselves. England rightly so - It was all about minimising one-another's chances first then trying to engineer something....anything....outside of that initial plan to keep the opposition out. Boring game? Perhaps. Tactically fascinating? You betya!
The wet weather meant it was never going to be a free-flowing game. England played to the conditions for the whole game. South Africa took a while to adjust. Keep the ball in hand, short passes. Keep it in the opposition's half. Kick all points on offer.
The idea that "England lost" rather than *South Africa won" is rather silly. There was no fluke about this. The coaches adjusted the team during the game and changed what they needed to start controlling the game, leading to the only try of the game and dominant scrum late on. South Africa were deserved winners of this Semi. All credit to England for pushing it close.
@@smokemeakipper1076how? It was england continuesly messing up the scums late game to the point it was long passed being cardable but the ref was nice enough to england for a verrrrrry long time.
There's no luck about this. Luck does not have a pattern to it. The Boks clearly have a blueprint for saving the game. They introduce a strong forwards to dominate the scrum and a great kicker to finish the game. Then comes the kick to the corner with razor sharp precision and accuracy and then they grind for a scrum, avoid making errors and let the opposition concede a penalty. Then the Kicker does what they do best! Simple!
I've been thinking that Handre Pollard must absolutely teach us what he thinks , or what he does not think, about in those moments before he makes those kicks -- maybe put it in a book or video--- and sell it , and make millions , lol 😊
It was a fair result. England simply did not let anyone play and South Africa wanted to play and they achieved the fair regard with a try. And yes, was a good thrilling end of a semifinal
It could be said and it has been said that SA use the scrum as a weapon to 'gain penalties' when really it should be a tool just to reconvene the game. The rules should change that you can only be freekicks for scrum infringements.
@@hermandobernardes722that we de-value tge role of forwards. The true solution is to reduce the points from penalties. Englands display was negative. They did not even try to score a try. Penalties and drop goals. They must give more points for tries and less for penalties. Ireland vs SA, the Ireland scrum was more dominant and noone complained.
@@nadineharley5744 England was pretty much ineffectual after half time. The SA coaches and team made adjustments based on their strategic disadvantage in the first half.
I watched the Game again,England was dominating most of the match but RSA has one of the best defence in the world, to me this game was almost similar to the NZ and Ireland match.. Ireland was dominant against NZ but they lost too
Sorry, but I disagree. NZ was on top of Ireland throughout the whole 80mins of their quarter final match. We saw a mentally defeated Irish team. It took the history of Irish quarter final disappointments to make them fall short. But nonetheless they've had a very dominant series till the last pool match of rwc23.
Drama, thriller, or whatever you may call it, up to the very last split second!! Still get some goosebumps watching those final minutes. One to be remembered for a long time.
South Africa should start their bench, they'd probably have much more of an impact. If not the entire bench, then definitely RG Snyman, Faf de Klerk, Willie Le Roux, and Ox Nche, friggin beasts!
"Starting 15", has completely lost it's meaning to Springboks, that's a testament to the depth and quality, doesn't matter who starts or ends the game.

It was like a thriller movie...

THE ART OF WAR
In the art of rugby war, much like warriors enduring a tempest's fury, the Springbok rugby team's unwavering resolve mirrored the wisdom of Sun Tzu.
Now I want to read the Art of War

Man I still get some shivers watching this highlights, the Boks had us by the ball's there, congratulations to our beloved south African team❤
That last scrum penalty could have gone either way. So it was lucky.
100% spot on.
