PHONOGRAPHY is one of ROLLING STONE'S "FIFTY MOST SIGNIFICANT INDIE RECORDS"
Intro quote by Stewart Mason, AMG.
"One of the most unique albums of the 1970s, R. Stevie Moore's debut long-player is an uncategorizable mess that somehow keeps from falling apart completely, kind of like a one-man band version of the Beatles' White Album cross-pollinated with late-1960s Frank Zappa at his most antic. Yet just as the album seems hopelessly self-indulgent and bizarre, Moore suddenly veers into some of the sweetest and catchiest pop songs of the pre-punk '70s. That dichotomy is what makes Phonography special."
-Stewart Mason, All Music Guide

No matter what year you end up here .. it's all part of your journey. Now go... Do it yourself.
1976??????? Waaayyyyy into the future is this genius!!!!
This has existed my whole life...and I'm just finding it now.
Same here, 5 years later...
@@BogeyMusicProject same here, 5 years and 8 months later
me today
Seven years later too
Yup
I wish I could have heard of Stevie 30 years ago, instead of only last week.
To be honest, it's his fault. Most bands struggle for years playing in shitty clubs before they make it big. Those days of playing in crappy places isn't wasted, it's their conditioning. I guess RSM wanted to stay home lol
Its bizarre but im glad I have actually thanks to Ariel Pink for the hook up.
Same here :D
You have to hunt for the good ones.
zonqor EXACTLY!!!
Holy fuck…this is an actual musical genius. Thank you whoever told about this guy…can’t remember
7 years before Guided by Voices, unreal. This guy is a pioneer.
This guy was out in the 50's
@@theheadphonea-hole4133 he started in 1968
@@kelechi_77 The earliest documented work on his Bandcamp page is from 1957.
Whenever a new sound comes out, people are quick to call it garbage. Then 5 years later everyone is doing it.
This is ridiculously ahead of its time
R Stevie is everything I've ever wanted in music
It will never cease to amuse me how oblivious people are of the weight of the title this man has in music history. "Father of Lo-fi DIY music". I mean, come on, this man, in theory, singlehandedly created the concept of modern music!
why are you so smugly repeating something you only recently learned
Mythologizing of a man instead of listening to the music is a disservice to his work and the work of other original thinkers
I love R. Stevie Moore!!! One of the best creative minds ever!!!
R. Stevie Moore is a huge influence on me for sure. Home taping ftw
ahead of his time
No wonder Ariel Pink loves this guy, he's awesome
Bro wtf, I was just listening to Ariel pink trying to sing a long... I was like fuck I wish I could sing and I googled that and now I’m here
why is this so good
Stevie can absolutely sing!
Now when i play in A it sounds like this:Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaammmmm!
Seeing a lot of influences from this guy in a lot of the music I listen to and it scares me.
I wish I could sing just as a good as you
I feel like this is one of Jack Stauber's main influences
You should listen to You Think You Really Know Me by Gary Wilson, really does sound like a 70s Jack Stauber.
Jack Stauber is just a poor man's ariel pink

The closest non DYI artist I can compare to RSM is Roy Wood of The Move, ELO and Wizzard fame. There's a certain vocal similarity and definitely a willingness to write experimental yet catchy pop music. Great stuff!
id put pink floyd on that list
Im here because of Alfo Media, thank you. This is awesome.
His sound sometimes reminds me of XTC and Squeeze, but better. Modern, yet Beatle-esque pop music of the highest order!
r stevie moore is the best singer ever!!! i love his music so much!!!!!!!!!!
R Stevie the one true god

Ahead of his time for real
I miss record shops.
Mr. Moore's song are indeed special, but I still feel a little young. Now the can has been open I can't come back. I have been de-moorelized.
Absolute classic RSM.
