Bought new in 2021, never took it to a vw service. I do the services myself, oil&filters every 6 months. It is way better than what Redriven describe it. It is not premium. My is petrol 70kW, 5speed, manual, 205's on 16" steel wheels👌! And is all fun to drive.
When I was choosing the new car, the vw was not even on my list..., at the end it was the best buy for the buck. Best road handling, quiet, best ergonomy for its class... Cheap running costs, cheap to insoure...👍& In reality still high resale value here in EU.

OK, I'll bite. Spent 6 months in Europe and drove ALL sorts of rental cars. Had a Skoda Kamiq for a month (T-Cross with a different badge) and did 8,000km in it. I actually quite liked it apart from the looks. That 1L 3cyl is also no slouch. I actually had to count the spark plugs to make sure my car was "only" the 1L variant.
I did quite a bit of autobahn kms with it and it genuinely cracked 200, and between 2L diesels and petrols in other rentals.....it was actually the only one that managed it. The 160-180 overtaking range is much stronger than a 1L engine should ever be. And I say this coming from a 300+ kw V8 back at home, so that is not something I say lightly....
It was also the only rental of four (Merc, Mazda, Citroen and the Skoda) that didn't have a single electrical/mechanical issue during the time I rented it.
Also, VW isn't a premium badge. Never has been, isn't priced like it either. They cost the same as a Toyota so I don't understand why there's a weird obsession with calling VW a "premium offering"?

    • @johnlaine2654
      @johnlaine2654 2 місяці тому

@@olly1oo6 I agree about the pricing not being Luxury. I thought it was quite competitive.. and VW gives Road Service FREE each year after an Annual Service.( up to 5 years).Just have to remind Service dept to renew it. Obviously costs them money.

My wife has a 2021 T-Cross R line, it had a radiator tank leak and was replaced under warranty. Other than that it has been a great little car with no other issues to date. As we are empty nesters so it suits us perfectly. I actually quite like driving it. Once you get used to the dual clutch auto, it is like driving a little go cart and does put a smile on your face with the spirited little 1ltr engine. This is our second VW and had a Tiguan for about 6 years and had to replace the timing chain and tensioner in that (we did it as preventative maintenance) and the PCV so we are aware of their problems.
We did have a Mazda CX-30 for about 6 months and we did not enjoy that car at all. Yes the interior was nice, but that was about it, thin paint, very intrusive driver aids and voice notifications and to be honest, the driving experience was very, meh!
Our best car to date was a Honda 2006 CRV. We had it for 10 years, 250000kms and it was just a brilliant, reliable and comfortable car. Still never used oil between services. We did look at the HRV when buying but just didn't like it to drive.

VW isn't the best at anything, but it's good at everything, that's why people love it. Here in Croatia, the T-cross is very popular, and not very expensive, 20,000 euros for the basic model. For 24,000 euros you can buy a solidly equipped model with a 1.5 L engine, 150 horsepower, DSG. One rule should be followed with every car, always buy a facelift model, because mostly all the problems it had before the facelift are solved.

When I asked the salesperson about this he said "this is what people want". He also couldn't tell me whether the engine had a chain or timing belt.
Ended up buying an XV which is much more solid and much more pleasant inside. Despite many reviews indictating the 2.0 litre non turbo is underpowered hasn't been my experience - never felt it has run out of power in a sticky situation. Currently on 52k kms and has been absolutely flawless. The folding mirrors are a bit “noisy”, but I’d say it just sounds mechanical 🤷‍♂️. I will say the only thing is poorer noise insulation due to the thinner tires on the R-line spec. I can absolutely say that I doubt it’s a long-term car (plus five years, out of warranty), but it definitely is a huge upgrade from the 2015 1.0 EcoBoost EcoSport we had prior to them.

After seeing everything that goes wrong with them in comparison to what's good about them it makes me wonder why VW hasn't killed this car off already.
Great video as always and and as per usual I look forward to Sunday's video 👍.

The infotainment system can be fixed with an update. The sound issues (including none at all) requires the amplifier on models with the Beats system to be updated.
This could be fixed if Volkswagen enabled WiFi updates. In Europe the MIB3 gets updates OTA via LTE. But we don’t have that service. So we’re reliant on dealers to supply the updates.
Unfortunately, many dealers take the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to updates. When many owners will think these issues are just how they are.
Making things worse, some service centre will just lie. I’ve had that happen to me. All I had to do was check the software version.

The rear cargo cover will only go to the lower position IF it has the Base model Sound System. With the Upgraded sound system there is a sub woofer in the Left side of the wheel well. That is So high it doesn’t allow for the cover to go down. The Sales Girl at VW Campbelltown showed that to me so I knew about it before committing to the car. It has never been an issue. What is an issue is the big hole left in the floor when the rear seats are pushed forward to give more room in the boot. So many items have fallen in there. WHAT THE HELL,VW? Couldn’t you have installed a flap for this gap like some other manufacturers? Would not have been a huge cost,I’m pretty sure.

What is happening with new car retailers? I keep hearing about poor after sales service and support. I have become a no particular brand owner. I now look at after sales service and support for my next new car purchase. It is why I look to Toyota and Lexus, Mazda Hyundai and Kia. And it appears that MG has got its act together too. I want a car that is supported, I don't want to have to go back to the dealer knowing I will have be be firm or even aggressive to get my vehicle fixed. The 3 pointed star has a terrible reputation too. I am from the group that knows my vehicle will have mechanical problems. I can deal with that if I have support. Sure the scratchie plastics are annoying, but if they last, that is more important. Thanks Adam and Jim, another great video with real information.

I have a T Cross Style with the Sound and Vision Pack .. 2021 model now with 38,000 klms on the clock. None of the dramas that you mention, except wiper blades not lasting long. Actually I’ve even tried the Wipertech ones and they aren’t any better. The only problem has been the Front Brakes warping.TWICE WITH ONLY 14,000 Klms between the same problem.First time VW replace the Rotors Free f charge but NOT the pads. Happened again at 28,00 Klms and VW did Not replace under warranty. They said as I had replaced the Original Not so good looking wheels with Speedy Wheels of the same size, 17 inch.. That’s what caused the problem I questioned that when the First set warped, I still had the Factory wheels on it.I even had the Factory fit Hankook tyres changed over to the new wheels. They wouldn’t budge ,however I insisted that Brake Pads be replaced as well. Total cost was $698! Yikes,
They don’t seem to be that good on Warranty work. Not sure I would buy another VW now. My previous car was a Golf which had No Problems.I have to admit that the T Cross drives well and is Not Noisy like some Reviewers are saying.

Volkswagen holds 6% of the world's automotive market which is second only to Toyota.
In 2023 they sold over 9 million vehicles worldwide and many of those sales were to repeat buyers who were satisfied enough with their present vehicle to buy one from the same manufacturer again.
There is obviously something about them that appeals to buyers and it's not like buyers don't have other choices.
I have owned a VWs in the past as well as Japanese and Korean vehicles.
I maintain my vehicles and overall the VWs were very robust.
Not as reliable as the Toyota or Hondas I owned but better than the Nissans Kias and Hyundais.
