- The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR represents one last hurrah for the seventh-generation Golf. It has the same 286bhp as the Edition 40 and it’ll crack 62mph in just 5.6 seconds. In this CarGurus review Dan Prosser puts it to the test to see if it'll be remembered as one of the greats.

Pros
Possibly the most upmarket Golf interior yet
Fast, comfortable and economical
GTI and R performance versions are true icon
Cons
Reliability niggles plague the car, especially DSG-equipped models
Entry-level models a bit basic
Boot space is useful rather than exceptional
The CarGurus verdict
When you're behind the steering wheel, the mk7 Volkswagen Golf is a mighty fine car to drive. It’s relaxed, comfortable, economical and faster than you might at first give it credit for. It’s often referred to as the best hatchback available, and that's even taking into account more premium rivals like the Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1 Series.
But reliability issues have dogged this seventh-generation Golf, meaning that a full service history is essential, as is a chat with a Volkswagen dealer to ensure that every piece of recall work has actually been carried out on the car you’re considering. And if you’re looking at a model with a DSG automatic gearbox, insist on a longer test drive to ensure that it changes gears seamlessly at all times.
Bear these points in mind and you'll have what is arguably one of the best all-round family hatchbacks of all time.

great vid checked it out before selling my GTI pp to get my TCR
How would tcr without dcc compare to standard gti in terms of ride quality??
The TCR will be the classic not the Clubsport you’ve got that wrong
Can we get a head to head comparison between the TCR amd the Clubsport.
Shame the R didn't get a special run out instead, the Clubsport was all the GTI we ever needed.
Shite send off from probably the best ever golf, the mk7
So basically it’s a Cupra 290....
Only that the cupra 290 is a cheap knockoff of this car in my opinion and also it will depreciate like hell where’s TCR will hold its value pretty well
@@artiomabreu5324 95% the same car but £10k cheaper. No brainier. and who’s buying a cupra to worry about the depreciation. All cars are money pits in the end. Majority of the owners will lease them or PCP for a few years and move onto the next one.
Does the cuppa 290 get the vaq lsd?
How is that good value when you can get a type r with all the bells and whistles for this price. It might not have styling for everyone but next to this golf the type r is so much more car for the money
Review by the numbers! You're better than this surely, hope they're paying big time.
I mean the civic type R is fully based on track experience and it’s quite unsuitable for everyday driving, where’s the GTI TCR has it all and in my opinion it does worth this money as it’s being a special edition apart from being a perfect daily driver
What a poor send off by VAG. Nothing new and a step back compared to the Clubsport S. DCT only in a "drivers car" is a bit of a laugh. This car isn't about out right speed so give us a manual so at least we get engagement
This car packs it all: it’s perfect for everyday driving but it also is capable of track usage as it’s more refined compared to the regular clubsport and sure is more practical then the Clubsport S. It all depends on what you looking for: if you only need a car for trackdays then the Clubsport S will be perfect but if you combine then the TCR is way to go.
Downvote because steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car.
