- "You will prefer the GTi to the Golf R..."
Hello world!
Welcome to the Mk7 VW Golf GTi.
Here at Accelerate, we have been fortunate enough to experience many cars from the VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) from Audi S3s to VW golf Rs, to building an Audi TT & owning an Audi A4.
Despite quoting multiple times "we are not the biggest fans of them" we are always open to experiencing more & more to solidify our opinions...this video however, may have altered that opinion...
Join us as we take a good look around this great example of a Mk7 GTi, give a brief history of the Golf & of course, put this thing through its paces through our beautiful Welsh mountains.
As a bonus, we explain one of the many reasons these VAG platforms are so popular on the car scene; modifications. The aftermarket parts available for these cars is insane. Whether its styling or performance you're after, you will not have to look far!
Follow us on Facebook for behind the scenes access, giveaways & more!
We are now partnered with TGR Motorsport to give you 10% OFF!

I have a MK7.5 GTI PP Manual. Had it 3.5 yrs . And love it .
I have the same car now for 3 years and i still love it. He is from 2015
100.000 km and no problems with the car.
Greetings from 🇧🇪
They are fantastic cars, we were pleasantly surprised.
Glad you're enjoying the car, it's good to see they are a good car to own long term 👌
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
Got a 2017 Mk7 Clubsport this year. I've own an M3 and other BMWs ...the Clubsport is my best car yet... Love it!
I bet the Clubsport is a fantastic car to drive!
Wow, that is a big claim, but I imagine the Clubsport is very engaging!
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
Interesting. I have a MK7 GTI S 6spd and an E46 M3 coupe 6spd. I know the Clubsport is miles better than my S model GTI, but my GTI is modded. In its current form, it’s faster than a stock Clubsport and will handle just as great as it too.
Even with my GTI being modded, I have much funner times in my E46 M3. It’s also modded too, but even in stock form, it has always been much more enjoyable to drive. Mostly this for me comes from it being RWD, and the GTI being FWD. FWD just sucks a lot of fun out of the car. 🤷♂️
The GTI is like a swiss army knife, it does a lot of jobs "pretty well". Practical, economical, sporty, reliable etc...I think its a better buy than a golf r and its also my number 1 choice if I ever decide to rob a bank 🤣🤷♂️
I got both, golf r in the wet on a bank job would be better! I prefer my gti but that's because it's tuned and my r is stock!
"Swiss army knife" is a very good way to describe these cars!
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
I absolutely love them. Always out of my price range growing up . If I was staying in UK I defo get one. Love the dsg box . I must be getting old hate a manual these days lol
😂 as soon as I jumped in, I said "god I miss driving an auto" We are getting old dude lol
- Drew
I have a standard (non-PP) 3 door, manual 7.5 facelift, in white silver metallic, I've replaced the wheels with OEM dark graphite metallic 18" Pretorias, added an OEM TCR spoiler lip and an Alcantara ClubSport steering wheel and it really is the perfect daily driver. After 4 years, I still look over my shoulder in the supermarket car park to admire it's aesthetics
@@SilverShamrock71 very nice choices! I do love an alcantara steering wheel!
That's when you know you've bought the right car 👌lol
Thank you for watching!

@@accelerateyoutube thanks Drew
This video has just made my mind on getting one of these, I am buzzing for it now. Going from a peugeot 208 Gti at 210bhp to a golf gti, even tho the golf comes in stock at 230bhp I will plan on mapping it like you guys said, 300bhp is so easily achievable in these where as if you “stage 1” tuned my Peugeot you would only gain 15-20hp, so excited now man.
@dec392 very good choice sir! As we said, we were not the biggest VAG fans but THIS was entertaining!
What did you think of the 208 GTi? Don't seem to hear much about them.
Thank you for watching & commenting!
- Drew
@@accelerateyoutube Pick my mk7.5 gti performance pack up on Thursday!
As for the 208 gti, I have had it for 3 years, never ever let me down, only the usual wear and tear that goes on every car, it’s quick enough, the only downside and the reason I am switching to a VAG is trying to get more power out them. The 208s don’t make much different when mapped only making 10-15hp but yes mate very good cars and I’d recommend anyone to get themselves one if they were thinking of them 👍🏻
I have a manual 2017 Mk7 GTI since new. No power mods, but the clutch has been upgraded with a Southbend Stage 1 and SMF and is perfect for daily driving. This is the 7th VAG product I've owned and is easily the best. This car does it all, from Costco runs, 38 mpg on the highway, daily commutes, and fun weekend canyon carver.
Brilliant video as always both👌 I do like a Golf Gti awesome hot hatch, Fantastic Review and editing 👍🏴
Thank you dude! 🙏 We always say we aren't the biggest fans of the VAG platform...but this was awesome lol

@@accelerateyoutube 👍
Iv got mk8 gti CS
It’s ridiculous
450 stage 2 with a TCU tune
puts a proper smile on your face 😊
I have a 7.5 with similar mods/power, can't think of much else I'd rather have
Great video guys, love my golfs ( got a few ) I’m sure I seen this golf driving around Ebbw vale
Nice! What Golf's do you have? (Dare I ask lol)
- Drew
@@accelerateyoutube Hi Drew, I got a mk5 Golf R32 with some bits done to it , mk7 golf gtd with some mods mk2 golf gti, Lupo gti projects and up gti with some mods 👍🏻
I have a Mk7.5 (2019) Rabbit edition (has the OEM performance features of the PP, I believe) in a Manual (THE way to go), I’m the original owner and I absolutely love it! The fact that I went with Manual over the very very good DSG means every time I get behind the wheel it’s an engaging experience, and I’ve not gotten bored of driving it like I’ve heard some DSG owners say long term. I’ve added a turbo inlet pipe, intake tube, and modded the airbox, proper Michelin pilot sport 4s tires, and just did an EQT stage 1 93 octane tune about 2 weeks ago. It’s prob sitting at about 320 whp as well, and it’s a beast of a little hot hatch. 5+ years later, it still puts a massive smile on my face when I drive it around. I’ll be uploading a video about it soon! 🚙
DSG is better in every way. Suits the car much better
@@ash_reviewsI’ll meet you halfway and say that I would consider the DSG, but in the R. I’m curious to know though, other than being slightly quicker (I recognize the DSG trans is fantastic btw), what specifically makes the DSG better than the manual in your opinion?
Please do a vid david i’d love to see ur mk7.5 pp w a 6 speed!! Gorgeous looking car
@@Ztxk94 will do! Been driving around over the past few weeks after the stage 1 install, and I’m working on gathering thoughts and initial impressions so, Stay “tuned”. Get it? Lol
@@davidbugarin Haha class mate, can’t wait to see and hear it!
A stumble along your channel. Great video lads. I have a 2016 gti that has been tastefully upgraded and it’s a cracking piece of kit. I also own a mk 7.5 golf R 3 dr. Both superb cars.
Belle vidéo 👌 😉. Super. La Golf GTI 👍👍👍. Mais j'aime bien mon TT 👍 MK2. 🏴 🇫🇷 👍
Thanks again for another great video! I believe you’ve been converted into proper VAG fans = result 😃
Thank you so much for the support! 🙏
I hate to say it, but you're right! We have been converted 😂
- Drew
If you’ve not tried a Cupra 290 yet, definitely recommend a try! I settled for a 290 after looking for the ultimate hot hatch. Very biased opinion but any is38 mqb platform is pretty solid tbh
Great vid guys!
Thank you dude! 🙏
- Drew
I went for the performance but even more practicality in the Octavia vRS 245 Estate. Which you will no doubt know is a GTi Performance but in a Skoda frock. Shed loads of space and only a tiny bit less performance than the Golf. Has the VAQ Diff so handles really well for such a big car. I absolutely love it.
Great vids bois 👌
Thank you dude! 🙏
- Drew
Great video lads 👌 got a nice s3 8v for you to review if you like
Thank you mate! 🙏
Ooo nice, we want to experience as many VAG cars as possible, so we are up for it!
Drop us a message on Instagram woth some details 👌

@@accelerateyoutube not on Instagram mate any other way of contacting yourselves
Had one for 2 years now..bad boys' a beautiful all rounder.
I got the mk7.5 gti 3 door manual non PP though. Depsite the FOMO for lsd and golf r brakes i absolute adore the thing just had it a year. I have a few videos on my channel on it too
Great vid
Thank you 🙏
- Drew
Grate video. If you was to rate a car be how much fun you looked like you was having and laughing it must be a good car 🤣
Yes! As you could tell, it really surprised 😂
- Drew
Great video, sweet GTI, nice power! I have a question:
If I am not planning to run MPI on my MK7 GTI, but I want to run ethanol, what fueling upgrades do I need to perform? I’ve heard that the HPFP needs to be upgraded but the LPFP doesn’t. Is this correct?
Always love the mk7/7.5 golf gti and prefer the looks over the R
I’m thinking of selling my f30 335d for a golf gti even though my 35d is running 400 bhp and 790 nm torque so obviously I’m going to miss the torque of the diesel but fancied a golf for awhile
Yes the GTI is still the awesome hot hatch as long as it has a 2.8 24V VR6 engine 😀
The VR6 is a pretty special engine!
- Drew
what a car but i think that my golf r estate version 7.5 in stock form can beat that lol .
Great Video, sure looked like fun, considering getting one of these for me next (and 2nd car)
I had the mk2 16v and have a manual mk7 with it's original seats.Sure are best cars but Gti is a philosophy. Only understand that conexion who has one of these
The Mk2 is my all time favourite Golf 😍
Very good taste in cars!
Thank you for watching!
- Drew
try a tcr guys
If you know anyone with one, send them our way!
- Drew
Got the clubsport mk7… best GTI to date.
I bet the Clubsport is fantastic to drive!
- Drew
Not the original hothatch.
I'd go for Leon Cupra over a Golf if you want a hot hatch from the VAG group, more fun at a better price. Golf's are popular for practicality, get a Type R instead, practical and more dynamic.
I've got a Mk7.5 performance great car but it's not a true hot hatch, or at least what a hot hatch should be, it's not lively enough, not twitchy or kart like enough, it's more like a high speed train, luxurious, fast.
Yes. Because I have a 2021 CFB MT
I saw the laptimer at 3.2 sec and i have a question... Is that the time it will take for the wheels to stop spinning at the line? *laughs in Golf R*
😂😂
what wheels and size is that bro
Are you boys near Abergavenny..?
I live in Abertillery.
Thanks
Ken
Not a GTI fan either, coz they are front wheel drive, but I have to admit they are excellent all-rounders.
The FWD aspect did make it very fun!
Thank you for the support as always! 🙏
- Drew
Mk7 best all around GTI
Gower power 😄
Stage 1 on stock clutch?
It’s a dsg you only need to swap clutches in the manuals
Automatic… gross. Dope video though😂💪🏻
@chasecorbin9339 😂 I would normally agree with you, but as a daily driver I do love an auto...maybe I'm just getting old...👀
Thank you for the kind words!
- Drew
It has to manual tho 💯
These remind me of tampons
