When potting into a bigger pot you can put the old pot into the bigger one then fill up the edges with compost. Pull out the original pot and hey presto you have a hole exactly the correct size.

TBF I was waiting for Chicken to add to your compost in the tomato plant bed. Our cats always seem to make a bee-line for any freshly dug or composted border to use as a lit-tray.

For storing compost we use a couple of plastic dustbins; just empty the bag into the bin and done. A scoop stays in the most used one and they can sit outside or inside the greenhouse.
These were pinched from the others I use to keep kindling in, these stay in a windier spot so need a bungee to holds the lids on.

My formula for rescuing poorly houseplants:
1. Cut off everything that doesn't look like a healthy plant (ie, anything dead, dying, or unhealthy looking).
2. Repot, with plenty of compost and good drainage. If that's the pot the umbrella plant came home from the store in, it's almost certainly rootbound.
3. Water thoroughly & mist/sprinkle leaves (including undersides) until water is dripping off of them.
4. Put somewhere in moderate light & stable-ish temperatures; & water when dry.
I also think your umbrella plant might benefit from a humidity tray.

Potting up is always one inch larger than the pot it was removed from. Live in growing zone 6b. I'm waiting to finish installing the panels on my greenhouse. Weather here has been crazy also. On the parlor palm, check the fronds for spider mites and cut out the dead or dying fronds.

Better later than never I never had the time to garden or greenhousing but I do and have for the past 6 years other than volunteering. Good luck to you both it's all trial and error and the rewards are great especially these days and taste very different from buying veg and fruit from the shop. You learn along the way and enjoy the process and if you have kids they too can enjoy it with you.

Don't overfill your bench Andy with anything permanent ,seedlings now and then it's perfect for growing sweet peppers and chilli's and mini cherry tomatoes as the reality is the greenhouse is way too hot to use in the summer months for potting on ect .If you buy a portable potting on tray you can use that on your garden table .Mine is full to the brim of seedlings at the moment and trays of mixed lettuce we are cutting from weekly .Its hitting 30 degrees in the day but still dropping low at night .

Parlour palms were popular with the Victorians because they thrived in dark terraced houses. If your window is South facing, that will kill it. Loving these videos, and totally jealous about the greenhouse!

Couldn't agree more about easy-peel stickers! Try watering the palm from the bottom? Let the palm sit in water for 20 mins, drain then don't water again until dry again. Greenhouse looks lovely! Enjoy 😊

Very good. One thing I learnt from my greenhouse is that compost dries out very quickly in there - keep an eye on those bags under the staging!

Congratulations on the greenhouse! By the way, when re-potting a root-bound plant, it’s a good thing to sort of loosen the roots on the side of the root ball; gives them a start spreading out into the new soil.

Andy , put the Palm plant away from direct hot window but still where it gets the light. See if that helps. Also, I would have planted the Umbrella plant into a larger pot.

Very pleased for you mate, it's great to see you so enthusiastic, there is nothing quite as magical as raising your own plants from seed although there can be bumps in the road to contend with !
Very satisfying to get organised and make some space in the shed by transferring all the garden equipment, and makes the greenhouse feel like it's up and running too.
Bench looks great, Mrs Mac doesn't know her own strength ! 💪😉😁
I think I would be putting some sort of rail on the back of the bench to avoidd the frustration of things falling down the back or worse still damaging the glass. One thing you learn very quick with greenhouses is to do every movement in a measured careful way especially with long spit things like canes !
You could put a second water butt to catch the water off the greenhouse and also connect it via a syphon to the bigger one up the garden which will save you plodding up the garden to fill up !
You can get plastic potting trays which are OK, and galvanised ones that start around £30, or I guess you could make one out of timber, although this would be less good if you are planning to leave it with damp compost in it or water it !
A lot of people use the Ikea "Sortera" waste sorting bins for compost etc (I see they have similar in Argos & Dunelm too) I use similar for things like grit, Vermiculite & Perlite but don't now bother for compost as I use that much I'd be forever refilling it. I'm on the look out for a wheeled lidded bin that takes 100L+ of compost but have yet to find the right one !

Agree with you about stickers that stick too well. You probably know this but I've discovered that wiping paper ones with a little olive oil and waiting a while often softens the glue. Slower than other solvent based solutions but it seems so much more satisfactory to keep it food safe...
