There's a lot of wisdom in that. It remind me of the quote "it's better to have an idea than a belief. Because you can change an idea. " Thank you for another great conversation. Cheers 🥃
Recognising the way we deal with the reality is shaped by our opinions is key. Without them, there is nothing to think or talk about, but the opinions aren't the way things are.
I’m now 68 and have drastically changed what I believe as compared to what I “knew” to be true 20 years ago. Being open to change even at my age has been a boon to my life. Cheers to you and keep on being open!
I watch every episode. This one was so spot on, as you said not always easy to deliver, but to listen has become a lost art. Videos like this are why I never want to miss one. Keep it up.
I was recently reflecting on what different ideas and beliefs I once held 30 years ago. And some even 5 years ago! Things change and we change. Regularly reminding myself and confidently knowing that years from now my future self too will likely look back to now with different ideas is the best wisdom I can hope for. So yes, hold those opinions lightly, for they like everything will arise and change.
Wise words! Yeah, it really is about allowing people to be who they are and where they are on their journey. Trying to "enlighten" people to the contrary of their perspectives is often, if not always ego related and will always cause a greater divide.
Yes, We should all be able to agree that an opinion, does not hold sway over someones lived reality. Not their imagined or wished for reality, but lived reality.
Reminds me of my two favorite opinions quotes. “Opinions are like assholes: everyone has one, and mine is the best.” And. “I feel that opinions differ greatly from assholes, in the sense that yours should be constantly and thoroughly examined.”
I like to think that we become the best possible version of ourselves as we gain wisdom. But truth be told, we will never be the best version of anything if we aren’t open to hear the opinions of others. You may not agree, and you don’t have to, and that’s completely fine.
I've most certainly had to ask myself many questions over the past eight years. There is an ENDLESS amount of reactive material that is constantly pushed into view online. I've settled with my current opinions, and am fully aware that I don't need to convince others that mine are the ideal. I don't give my attention to those who are so desperately seeking to take it. I seek out those who want to bring people together, and avoid those who enjoy causing derision and hate. We're all very brief moments and memories to each other. So seek to fill your life with those who make those moments worth having. 🖖😎☕
Since this is a neck pour will there be a follow up review after time has passed on this one? This sounds interesting and I'm so happy I got one at MSRP by accident at my local store. They meant to put it behind the counter but left it on shelf next to the 4 year Overholt.
Daniel, you need to invest in a eye dropper or a dedicated liquor water dropper. I watch these vids and clench up when you free pour a LOT of water in the whiskey.
I'm still in the community, but I'm no longer a part of the Channel or the Crowded Barrel distillery. If you want details, there was a video on Tribe that explained it sometime back in November of last year!
Opinions are like butth*les, everyone has one. We get into trouble when we act as if coexistence cannot happen unless we all share the same opinion, but from dawn of society this has never happened and will never happen. My approach is to listen to someone’s opinion and dissect it with them to try and understand it. I don’t refute it or counter it, just understand. Then I decide if I want to change my own opinion or not based on what they presented. If someone is not open to my opinion though, I just stay quiet and move on. You can’t change a closed mind and I won’t let mine be influenced by one either.
Daniel, I love these videos. I am disappointed to see views dropping off on the channel. What do you think is the reason? Seems like the Tribe channel is still getting lots of views, I don’t really enjoy their videos anymore. I stayed with you but dropped them.
I'm going to answer this as quickly but real as possible :-) The Tribe content is aimed at a much more "wide" audience. Which makes for higher views, higher subscribes, etc. Vault episodes now are much more aimed at a narrower but deep engagement. Which translates to really amazing length watch numbers, but a lower view count overall. that's fully the intention. So we're actually in the midst of "rightsizing" into the audience that we likely want for really focused "whisky nerd" content. I'm grateful for the community we have now. And grateful to be a part of the whole whisky youtube scene in general
Every time you use that black water bottle to add water you end up adding a ton. When are you going to get something dedicated to adding water, like a spoon, or a dropper, or something more consistent so you don't do these ker-dumps of water?
If I may contribute my own experience, all of your opinions should be held lightly, except for the ones that shouldn't. It's up to you to really dive into the opinions you believe you should hold rigidly onto and it's your responsibility to be damn well able to argue your opinion if the time comes. Aside from those few opinions stay moveable and be considerate to other people's opinions. Actually, let's take a second and think about that work "considerate". Obviously it means be polite and listen, but it also literally means to "consider" once they have finished their thoughts. Don't just jump right in and attempt to build your thoughts as you speak.
Great review! Sadly I didn’t get the 10 year. I did get the 11 year. Here’s what I think if you’re interested: Is Old Overholt 11 Year a SPECIAL Rye Whiskey? ua-cam.com/video/KWfpfH3N7vw/v-deo.html
Reminds me of a Victor Hugo quote: Change your opinions, keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots.
Spot on sir!

I'm loving the new format! Old Overholt 4yo is the rye I keep on hand, definitely adding this version to my list for things I'd like to try.

Very wise words, Daniel. My favourite quote about opinions is: “I would never die for my opinions, because I may be wrong”. Cheers!
More people should hear this so they become aware of it.
Thanks Danial.
Love seeing people add some water. North of 115 proof and the heat hides flavor for me and I try to see how others deal with it. Great video.

Nicely done, Daniel. Thank you for this.

Hubris of Knowing. I think I dealt with that to 20 something years ago to. Felt I knew lots but in turn didn't really know much of anything.
Legendary
🥃 Thanks for the video 👍🏻

Wise words thanks for sharing can't wait to crack this one
Reminds me of some of what Dale Carnegie touches on in "How to Win Friends and Influence People"

For the old-garithm🎉
Wise words
Excellent as always, thank you. Could you tell us about the painting to your right? Does it have a particular meaning to you?
Very good. Short but sweet, and something I am constantly reminding myself to embrace! Or is it let go?

Pirates of the Caribbean reference right at the start!
Rule #1: “The best whiskey is the whiskey you like to drink the way you like to drink it.”
Amen to ancient wisdom...
Just wondering, was this guy you had not seen in 20 years concerned with how many JPMs were in the music?
It's very possible
I was really hoping for a.38 Special reference given the title of this video, but I guess that would've been a bit of a stretch.
Welcome all Whiskey Vaulters to Story Time with Daniel. Perspective matters!
Kudos self discipline I keep score +1

yeah, I'm fixing that, slowly as i remember :-)
What does the term "cask strength" usually mean? Does ot mean it is the strongest version of the whisley they have made?
It means it's bottled at the proof that came out of the cask, not proofed down by adding water.
@@TheBradWhittington gotya. For proofing down, all you do is add water? Distelled water only? Or do you add or change other things too?
@@Persepolis8564 Just water.
🙌🏻😁🥃
Good workhorse Rye! Peat all the way!! lol!! 😂
Make your words light and palatable, for you may have to eat them later.
Oooo
I don’t know if you’ll answer this, but why did you leave the whiskey tribe? Sorry if you’ve already addressed it. Regardless, thanks for the content.

You think you've got opinions? Come to Synagogue with me and drink at our whiskey club on a shabbat after the service. You'll see what opinions are.

First
I wish Daniel was a Senator...at least.

For the very first time I DISAGREE with you Daniel. I mean, come on, too much water??? Add more whiskey!! 😅
Do not hold your opinion if the foo c being discussed by the other person or persons is blatantly false or confused
