As a Champaign native and a '60 IL grad, it was great fun to come across this by accident today, 8/23/20. It brought back great memories of the gorgeous fall weather that often blessed us. I knew the Illini had smacked Akron 42-3 in last year's season opener the week before this, which was certainly predicted. But I still thought that huge win would help swell a crowd for Homecoming. The scant group in the stands for this pre-game show was truly shocking. The dramatic flyover by the two planes certainly fit in with the patriotic theme of the show, so it was quite a surprise that not a word was mentioned about them...what they were, where they came from, any Illini connections, etc. I was pleased that the local announcer could be heard clearly on this You Tube. That sure has not routinely been the case...and it does seem it should be. Thanks be, the band's precision and music was as fine as always. I thought the intricate moves to outline our nation, including the proper placement of Illinois within the borders, was especially well done. To have only 2,948 viewers for this great show was close to maddening , ditto re only 39 likes. On the other hand, I'm a Life Member of the Alumni Assn. but still had no idea until recently that much of anything at all about the Illini was available on You Tube. Maybe the various Public Information Offices could help in some way.... I sure hope so.
