    I agree that the Olympics are the reason the U.S. has huge numbers of young girls trying gymnastics. But don't underestimate NCAA scholarships as a lure keeping many in the sport during their teen years. Skating lacks the financial incentive -- how many girls get the endorsement and ad deals? One or two every four years?

      This! Most club gymnasts' goals are a scholarship; Morgan Hurds and Simone Bileses are rare! Without an attainable goal in FS/men's gymnastics, we just aren't gonna see the same numbers!

    Regarding the Grand Prix, you've gotten the way the assignments work a bit mixed up. Everybody at Worlds who finished in the top 12 (in the singles) or top 10 (in partnered disciplines) is guaranteed two spots, and the top six in each are seeded in two tiers. Being on the world standings (or the season's best list, which in this case is just Worlds, World Team Trophy, Nebelhorn and Budapest Trophy) is how you get considered for the rest of the assignments. So Alexa & Brandon are guaranteed two because they finished seventh at Worlds, even if their world ranking is low.

    WHERE IS THE PYRAMID?!

  • @thesovgc
    @thesovgc 3 роки тому +47

    TEAM ETERI may be the best thing to ever happen in skating. They truly give me my life!! Let's take a deeper look!!
    1. Evgenia Medvedeva - probably irrelevant but I'm listing her out of respect and that's what a true Stan does. Her records and accomplishments speak for themselves. Anna Karenina gave me the will to continue living and not defenestrate myself. OG Traitor but Pardoned.
    2. Aliona Kostornaia - Orignal Robbed Goddess™ . Victim of Terrible Luck and a Worldwide Pandemic conspiring against her. Some of the most gorgeous skating skills we've seen from a lady skater in MANY MANY YEARS. Beautiful girl with a strong WILL. Pretty good competitor (last season she kept hitting those axels in competition even when they weren't going well in practice or warm-up). Seems to Need a lot of Attention. Traitor #2. May Overdose on Billie Eilish Someday.
    3. Kamila Valieva - Chosen One. Beautiful short programs, long programs need work. The Abortolero is a No for me. Gorgeous triple axel when she hits it. She never hits it. Problematic Jump Technique especially on certain triple triples. Lands on Inside Edge. Overall a huge question mark as February feels simultaneously Around the Corner and a Lifetime Away.
    4. Anna Shcherbakova - Reigning 3x Russian Sr National Champion and also 2021 World Champion. By Default. Hanging on by a Thread and we never know how much is left in the tank. Constantly appears frail and near death but I don't think has been hospitalized in a few weeks. Good Sign. Fingers Crossed.
    5. Sasha Trusova - 2x Jr World Champion. Jack of All Quads, Master of None. Traitor #1. Fiery & Ambitious. Lacking Skating Skills. Lacking Acceptable Presentation Unless Skates Clean. Fan of Droning Fantasy Music. I liked her Junior short program in 2017.
    6. Daría Usachyova - Beautiful Skater. Gorgeous edges. Can be inconsistent. Triple Axel Not Even Close in Harness. Needs a wig and a Prayer.
    7. Maiia Khromykh - I Don't Know Her.
    8. Alina Zagitova - No idea Why she's on the List as I thought she retired over a year ago. But maybe not? No Triple Axel. No Quad. No Hope. Will be 19 at 2022 Olympics. That may as well be in Dog Years on Team Eteri.

    • @LiamForeman
      @LiamForeman 3 роки тому +3

      I agree about Shcherbakova. I feel she is the most vulnerable to being off the Olympic team. I try not to underestimate her, because she is such a tough competitor, but her jumping technique is the worst of all the Eteri girls. If Anna is having trouble with her quads at Russian Nationals, she could be as low as 5th.

    In America, I don’t think there will be a significant amount of new young boys starting learn to skate classes after nathan and Jason have their moment at the winter olympics. Getting young boys in America to start skating is really rare even while we do have top men. In Russia UK and Japan they don’t have the same standard masculine culture and the same traditional masculine American sports culture that the US has from the NBA to NFL to MLB. The other countries don’t have these masculine major sports leagues in the same cultural way the US does. Every person in skating that has tried to heterosexualize male skating have all been Americans because heterosexual masculine sports is our American culture. And in Canada, most young boys start hockey which leads to figure skating many often times. I think most American young boys are going to stick with baseball and basketball and football, etc. I don’t think Nathan and Jason will be the ones to change that standard tradition in America. There are limits to how far men’s skating can go on their own in America. Toxic masculinity culture is a real thing in America that isn’t in the other countries as much.

    • @lyamkinmir6448

      No. We in Russia have traditional approach, it's just that we don't see figure skaters as feminine. For us, it's hard and dangerous sport. Ballet too drop in this category. of course, there is aesthetic beauty of the body, but it's just unacceptable to view it through the sexual aspect.
