He deserves every bit of it! I'm the same age as Stevie Wonder, I grew up with him and his great music since we were 12. No one could do what he could do, always innovating and out in front. Some of you younger folks might not know that Stevie was born blind, making his accomplishments even more fantastic! Along comes Jacob who picks up where Stevie left off, which is saying a LOT! It takes sheer brilliance to redo a classic old hit and make it even better! go Jacob, we love you!

@@cotenero sure, inspired by someone who, at two years younger than my current age, was better than i will ever be at just about everything he played/ sang in this video. i am inspired by musicians i feel i can approach in terms of skill, Jacob just has such an immense supply of talent, perfect upbringing and technical skill that i am left in despair. I love the music, it just hurts to listen to because i know i can never reach a similar level.
How can you not look at this and think 'what's the point?' - I know many people who've played their respective instruments for centuries and don't even begin to approach the level of understanding this man had at 19. and these were people who were fortunate enough to begin learning at an already incredibly young age. Jacob collier makes me want to quit playing music and focus on something more achievable for me - at least witnessing his talent first hand makes me realise that i'm not particularly talented myself.

2020. Only discovered Jacob a few months ago. I've had to wire my jaw shut whilst listening to his arrangements. I read with interest here the opposing views of 'genius' and 'too busy', and also the lack of original writing. All very valid points, for now.
However, in my 50 years listening to music I've seen many artists grow across their careers to a point where they achieve this level of technical ability.....afters literally decades of experience.
I would just like to remind everyone that this gentleman was producing music to this standard when he was just 19...

6 years later, an observation: the number of people who complain that his arrangements are "too busy" or "too much" are dwindling. Like any consummate genius whose work shatters all existing precedent, there is initial backlash because people aren't ready for one individual to catapult a discipline so far forward so quickly. But eventually as he continues to produce, people begin to accept it because all of a sudden he has made it real and possible. I am invigorated every day just to be alive at the same time as this guy and to know he's just getting started

I know people have been overdubbing for a while, but this takes it to an insane level, even for youtube.
Here is a list of less talented people whose feet you could put back on the ground before his: Justin Bieber. Kylie Minogue. Robbie Williams. Sting. The Rolling Stones (yes, I said it). Not at all familiar with this young man-what a talent! I heard a version of "Under The Sea"( last summer) that was amazing and didnt catch the name of artist but SWORE it was a Take 6 session that I didn't know about. Turns out it was Collier off a Jazz Loves Disney comp. Fantastic! He's got BIG ears and seems like he's just getting warmed-up,career wise. Looking forward to all that he has in store. Keep on keeping on,Jason!

Yes, I agree, Chris. Some of Jacob’s harmony lines are very similar to Take 6’s first album. Jacob is super talented and entertaining! I was looking to see if anyone else noticed this and commented. Thank you, Chris!

I know he comes from a long line of musicians, but good grief! How is all that talent packed into one person?! This blew me away. It's also proof that all these little pop star wannabe "celebrities" should shut up and step aside. The real king has arrived.

    LYRICS
    Everybody's got a thing
But some don't know how to handle it
    Always reachin' out in vain
Just takin' the things not worth having
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, baby
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
    When you check it out
They say your style of life's a drag
And that you must go other places
But just don't you feel too bad
When you get fooled by smiling faces
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, baby
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
    When you check it out
When you get off your trip
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
    Don't you worry
Don't you worry 'bout a thing

    Don't you worry 'bout a -
    Oooooh
    Everybody needs a change
A chance to check out the new
You're the only one to see
The changes you take yourself through
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, baby
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out (Da, da, da, da)

A GENIOUS ! I heard on a radio pograms that he also uses quarter tones in his singing, which, on top of his being a great musician, produces a very subtle effect very seldom heard in occidental music... FABULOUS!!💯💖

With the greatest respect the guy is a freak....absolute GENIUS how he has invented/found new chords and notes to write new music! Was totally moved by the whole concept and skill of the young man. Saw the TV programme last night about his start, journey, mother and admiration he has received from the industry. I am now a fan and will be an avid listener for years to come.

Sorry, I just don't get it. Yes, he's obviously profoundly knowledgeable, extraordinarily gifted and highly creative but his output doesn't move me one iota. In fact, there's something almost chilly about it for me. It's so passionless, so cerebral, so clinical..

Ok we get it you're a genius beyond comprehension and all that, but how on earth do you keep all the compliments and the worshipping at the feet from getting to your head? The groveling? How do you not get a big head and continue to be incredibly humble? That is the oversized cherry on top of an already massive ice cream sundae.

I don't think he has that kinda attitude about it man I think he understands where the "groveling" comes from and takes the good and leaves the rest. That's my impression based on how I've seen him interact with ppl/fans/musical legends that are already blown away by him.
