You are the MAN, my brother! This was a great show! The Mr Olympia rocks! I’m still waiting for the Ms International 1993 contest! Keep posting, bro!!😊❤️👊🏾🌹🎸🇺🇸🎙
I was at this Mr olympia. All competitors looked much smaller and smoother, due to being tested for steroids. In person the one who I thought looked the best and should have won it, was Mike Christian. He was also the crowd favorite. He was much bigger than haney and even his conditioning was better. Seeing the rest of these guys in person, they did not look that impressive. Jean favre, got screwed he should have gotten 2nd place. He looked much better than haney and the others.
Mike's legs were a bit less developed than the other top 6 guys. Based on the boos, some of the crowd also thought Shawn Ray should have placed higher.
Labrada was the best here. How can a guy be two points up after prejudging, as he was, and with his posing ability yet end up second after the evening show?
I know Lee Haney won 8 Olympias. I also know that people respect him because of his family values, good nature and his religious values. I also feel that he is underrated. Over the years I have seen experts praise Coleman, Schwarzenegger, Yates, Zane and show warm respect to Lee Haney. Arnold is the best because he made so many of us fans of bodybuilding. Lee Haney had the best body (small waist) Coleman messed his waist up (too prodigious).
Lee Haney. No one was better and for good reason. He just represented what Bodybuilding was about Strength and Beauty Mass with Class. On and off the stage He was the perfect balance The Hank Aaron of BodyBuilding 8X MrOlympia The True G.O.A.T!
Haney had no arms and bad calves , hams coleman was much much better overall and his waist was super small when he won his first olympia at a much bigger size than haney
Well, it was drug tested, and about a third of the potential contestants failed, so you know it was legitimate. Obviously none of these dudes were career naturals, but they were cycled off pretty heavily. It was the first time they had done this, and they weren't very good at it. I would honestly guess that most of them could attain this size and condition with lifelong natural training and proper peaking, but the way that people talk about this contest means that all that effort would go for naught.
I hope they bring these rules back for testing, the way it's going now with the drug abuse is just madness. Doesn't represent real training at all imo.
When fans from the 80s saw oics of larry scott or harold poole do you think they thought "oh...these guys look like amateurs". What is it about young people of today that they cannot comprehend or appreciate that everyone and everything is a product of their times? 20 years from now fans of this "vlassic physique" will be looking at videos of classic P today and saying oh look how small they were." Gotta appreicate history and its pioneers. Note* This was a drug tested O unlike all the others. Everyone was much smaller even Haney. Hes only 230.
Wow Labrada was pissed, just walked off. Benfatto should've been higher, asthetic physique. It was downhill after this when the mass monsters would rule.
* Some Flat tires there 1. Lee Haney 2. Mike Christian 3. Shawn Ray 4. Francis Benfatto 5. Mike Quinn 6. Lee Labrada 7. Rich Gaspari 8. Frank Hillebrand
If you want to know how much of an impact the protocols had, look at lee haney between this year and the next. Or better yet, just look at rich gaspari in this contest. Dude had the reputation of being the most conditioned athlete in bodybuilding, and this is what he showed up with. 16:45
Lee Labrada changed the least from the prior year, then Ray, then Haney. Haney's arms were way to small without the roids especially his triceps and his midsection was all washed out. Haney is my favorite Mr. O of all time but fair is fair and for this year, it should have been 1) Labrada 2) Ray 3) Haney
wasn't he juicing in this contest? If memory serves me right this is the first and only contest that they drug tested for per the Bill that was passed banning such substances.
@@JerkVegas86that was at the Arnold classic that happened earlier that year but here he passed the test and looked phenomenal he arguably should’ve won
True genetic gifts. Many of these guys off cycle, but looking like Greek gods. Natty or nots on social media are a complete waste of time; Just train hard, eat good and pray your parents gave you the right genes 🙏🏼
Why? Shawn was no doubt a solid contender. While his opinions and what he says may be questionable, he was actually pretty solid and could hang with the likes of Lee, Dorian and other greats of that era
Lee Labrada small and smooth and he wanted to win. He is lucky to be in this time and was under the belt of Joe Weider. Now he couldnn't enve make it to national. Lucky man.
You’re joking. This footage doesn’t do the quality of Labrada justice. Labrada always brought a great package to the show- size, symmetry and conditioning. This was before the mass monster big fat tire gut stomachs. This was still pure bodybuilding and art. If you took Labrada and made him as tall as Lee Haney he would be as equal or even better. Height was the only determining factor here
My eyes must be deceiving me over and over again. I watched this contest every single decade. I saw the pictures. Lee Haney looked harder than Labrada. Haney had better, cuts in his abs, bigger arms, bigger chest, way more detail in back muscles and bigger legs. Btw. The were in love with Eddie Robinson.

It's a good matchup with a lot of talent, but unfortunately this was the first ever drug tested mr. Olympia, and the drop-off in size and condition for this one year was enough to convince the ifbb to just pretend it's athletes weren't using drugs, with the exception of two years in 1996 and 2001 that they tested for diuretics.
Nobody in the contest was drug free. Are you kidding me? No idea how they went about deciding who passed and who didn't. A raffle maybe? I like how Zane favors the small guys. @@arikrotem9750 well they will all have had to stop taking the drugs temporarily before the test. A couple weeks before the test to get them out of their system and probably hop back on straight after

If they drug tested the the 1993 Mr O Dorian Yates would have disappeared
