It's oddly fortuitous that I found this video today of all days. That is my exact bike, down to the color scheme. What's more, I just performed my 600 mile oil change, but wasn't sure if I had done it right. Thanks for the visual references, its a big help to me.
...time to change the oil again (you can see I commented 6 months ago). I bought my 2015 CB500FA with 2300 miles on it and I just hit 5400 (I love this bike, it's perfect for beginners to learn to ride and turn wrenches on your bike). In the Honda maintenance manual, it advises to change the oil every 5000 miles, but I'm going to change it at 3000 because my oil looks pretty dark and I like clean oil. Cool video and it show everything you need to change your oil on your CB500F.
Thank you for this video.I just bought my oil and filter for my 2015 Honda CB500F and it's going to be my first oil change on my bike. :) Great tutorial video and thanks again for the specifically letting us know about the 12mm nut/bolt and how much oil (3 quarts) to use. I bought my bike used and I didn't have an owners manual. I need to download one ASAP.
....recap, just changed my oil today! Because of this video, the oil change came out PERFECT and flawless. Thanks again for making this video. I went with a K&N oil filter and Castrol 10w30 oil.
Your video gave me the confidence I needed to get the job done. I had NO idea how to change the oil on a motorcycle before this video. I'm going to change the stock air filter for a K&N air filter next.:) Take care and happy riding.
Shoudn't used the ratchet on tightening the filter. It's supposed to be hand tight only. The reason for the nut on the filter being there is to make the removal easy.
As long as you aren't torquing it to 500ftlbs, it really does not matter hand or ratchet. I've done another change since I made the video and have had zero issues when just giving a slight solid twist.
I honestly think the crush washer fell off on the first oil change (assuming there was one) and I never replaced it. Never lost oil or had any issues either so... your mileage may vary. I actually just sold this bike with 8900 miles on it, never a problem.
Revified honestly once a year because I only put on about 2000-3000 miles a year. The climate where I live isn’t too friendly for riding, plus the usual work and family stuff.
You will find 10w-30 is not commonly stocked in stores or used by many mechanics. It depends a little on the average temps of where you live but from my years on the bike specific forums it seems 10w-40 is the most widely used.
sorry to hurt you so bad??? Everyone has a different definition of 'hand tight' so the tool is used for demonstration. It doesn't leak, so what does it matter?

I'm happy this helped!

i have the same bike in the UK and the manual states oil change every 8000 miles. Wonder why there is a difference in your manual.

Nate Ellenberger happy this did the trick for you!

Nice Video helped organize and perform the oil change with no surprises. Thanks! Same bike same color scheme here too
thats awesome I appreciate the post
me too!! I have the same color and year bike. I bought the Purg Windshield for the front and it makes it look even sexier! :)
I would highly recommend using only genuine Honda oil filters. Good choice on the oil. Great vid!

Any idea what size the removal tool is? Would it be 65mm? Thanks.
yes it is 65mm
Thanks :D
did you change the crush washer ? and do you know what the size of it would be

I have the same bike, how often do you change it? Great video!

@@dblrightclick I feel you on that one. I'm in the PNW and hardly get a chance to ride until summer time.
Is it true that the oil change is every 12,000 km?
fede mejia yeah Honda says you can do that but I wont for as cheap as an oil change is to do.
What things got to be done as first service ??
Oil change and check everything over for proper fit.
Alright, thanks!
Can you use 10W-40 instead of 10W-30?
in reality, yes you should be fine

why is it the engine signal light on,
It’s not? I think you’re seeing the yellow ABS light which is on almost every single ABS motorcycle at idle but turns off once you go like 5mph
@@dblrightclick mmm I went to the retailer they said that light is a sensor indicator already checked up users manual but is not clear
@@dblrightclick you are right
Calgary? Got a 2013 CB500F
Gimmi J I live in Pennsylvania
Seeing him ratchet the oil filter hurts me so much.

Exhaust?

Who was the engineering genius that thought it was a good idea to place pipes under an oil filter!?
definitely annoying, but you can wipe them off and keep the smoke to a minimum
