Well, last year the possibility of an Oliver! remake was announced and Cameron Mackintosh is aiming for Sam to play Nancy and for Stephen Daldry as director.
While Samantha does put her own thickly Cockney spin on this song, Shani Wallis from the film version completely knocks it out of the park. The orchestration is also totally different. In the film, it begins as a quiet solo with no one in the saloon interested and builds to a massive crescendo, especially at the key change near the end, with the barmaids working their dresses. All as a distraction for Nancy to extricate Oliver from Bullseye's guard. I read that a remake of Oliver! is in the works and Samantha will reprise her stage role for the film.
OMG whyyy would they remake the film... The film is PERFECT, and they'll never reproduce clones of Shani Wallis, Ron Moody, Jack Wild, and Oliver Reed. Also, as you say, the reimagining of "Oom Pah Pah" in the film only highlights the substance it lacks in the play... I love Samantha Barks, but Stage Nancy seems to've always been directed as an unrefined barmaid getting drunk and dancing on table-tops with pure abandon, as opposed to Shani's more ladylike and purposeful interpretation.

Thanks for posting these, I was at this show too!! I'd waited so long to see Sam as Nancy and she blew me away, I especially loved the way she's added her own flavour to Oom Pah Pah :) Thanks, from a fellow Barkateer :D

It would be great if Oliver comes back in a movie. With new actresses and actors.
With Nancy as Samantha Barks

halo67994 That is awesome, I really can't wait to see it! Samatha is fantastic!
Rachel H It hasn’t! But fingers crossed :)
dreamysunshine The only thing about that is that who could out Bill Sikes Oliver Reed?

In the original show, Oom-Pah-Pah is essentially useless and is just a way to start off the second act.
